So, I've been playing around with my quadzillas daily driving tune and I'm trying to get rid of the excessive smoke and heat.   I'm currently running a set of DDP 100hp injectors( I know they are smokey and can run hot) and they are next on the list of items to fix( going to swap the nozzles and reset POP to 310) I think these injectors are popped at 280 from DDP which should retard the timing... correct?.  But until i have time and money to do that, i need to try and adjust the tune.  I'm also running a 60/67/12 HX35, BHAF, 4in exhaust.  EGTs are about 800 cruising at 70mph, which seems high and it is still pretty smokey when pulling away from a light. Below is the tune that I'm currently running, i was hoping that you guys might have some input on some things to change to help with the heat and smoke until i can get to the injectors.

Ditch the DDP 

 

last time I tried to tune the smoke out of DDP's the tune I used for the 100 hp's was the same tune I used for my 250 hp DAP injectors.  

 

The starting point was ~70% at 0 psi and the truck still smoked worse than mine with 250;s and it was dog slow.

 

 

all you can really try is to keep taking down your canbus curve a few % at a time until the smoke clears to your liking.  EGT;s are cruise are nearly always realted to timing, but they require good clean injectors to keep egt's down.  Throw a few more * of timing at it at cruise state.

What he said ^^^ also what level are you driving on? Your wire tap is set to come on too soon and you never see your cruise timing at 35 timing limit unless you have that much load driving on hwy, I'm around 18-20 at 70ish mph. Boost scale 30 set to 40 light timing advance try 2. Your tune is all screwed up imo but I have no idea on what your truck is like. You do have small tires so you should be good there. 

I'm currently on level 4.  The EGTs don't really change that much on each level.  So you think I should lower the load limit? I'm still trying to figure out how all this works and I really appreciate the input.  I'll try some of the changes you suggested and see what happens.

Lower pop pressure more ADVANCED the timing. Hence why I went to 320 bar making it slightly RETARDED which now you can stack more timing. Starting at 13 and going up by plus 5... 13, 17, 22, 27... Start there. The 13 degrees will give awesome spool up being you popped low you could start at 12 and work up.

This is similar to how mine is set up, but please get rid of the DDPs.. You said you had nozzles so hopefully that will help with the heat issue. Bold are the changes.

Stay on level 3 until comfortable with smoke and heat, then go to level 4 and up to adjust wire tap.

 

Power levels: 7

RPM  limit: 3400

TPS pump min: 20 -> 0 (I've had this set to zero, haven't had problems with smoke. But I do run DAP 50s)

Min pump tap fueling: 5 -> 0 (this means you are ALWAYS putting wire tap in once above 5% throttle, if I remember correctly)

Pump low boost scale PSI: 8 -> 15

Boost scaling: 30 -> 40

Load timing: 1

Low PSI timing reduct: 2.5 -> 5

Timing reduct scaling: 50

Light throttle timing ADV: 0 ---- need something here, otherwise always in performance range

Light throttle timing load limit: 35 ---- Should be much lower, go for a flat highway cruise and see what you load is at, and set 2-3% above that. Usually no more than 27-30.

 

RPM timing max:

1500-14 -> 13

2000-17

2500-20 -> 21

3000-23 -> 25

Max: 26 ->30 

(this is what i run, but you could start at 12 like MoparMan said, then do +4, +4.5, or +5 for each rpm range)

 

CanBus fuel ---- start pulling these down after see what the other changes do, no wire tap as low should help immensely.

I will make some adjustments that you guys suggested and see what happens driving home from work.  I appreciate all the help with this.

the issue with DDP is more than just pop pressure,  the injector spray angle is incorrect for a vp application.   The spray angle is the majority of the cause of the smoke and heat.  

 

That is at least what was the case last time I look into them.    

So I made the changes suggested above and the truck runs cooler at 70mph, but not much.  Truck is also a little more sluggish, so maybe I need to turn up the fuel a little more??. 

@Krlspokane12, until you get the nozzles swapped, you are fighting a losing battle. Adding more fuel will just increase heat in your case.

 

You could try pulling the timing back a degree across the board. What did you put in the cruise timing?

 

That said.. you are only going to go so far tuning out heat and smoke until you have a valet tune for a daily tune with the DDPs

Best to give you a flat level area after the defuel zone.

 

On the fuel map figure out you common cruise pressure including climbing grades and highway travel.

Now set the wire tap to start at 12 PSI and then it will ramp up with the CanBus and there is no smoke because the turbo is already spooled 12 PSI before dumping the boosted CANBus and the wiretap so it will get up and ...
