Mopar1973Man's Adventure to California

Posted

Well I think I'm going to start a diary of my adventure. As today I've been getting the last bit of work done here before leaving. I've got to do some last minutes stuff and get the last packed up. I'll continue to update this thread as I go. I'll post photos and just keep everyone updated.

My ATV is ready. I've aired up my bicycle and rode out to the mailbox and back. Just need to do my laundry one last time and grab more clothes.

I've gotta head to town get propane, can of gasoline and diesel fuel.

I'm planning on getting to Parma as my first stop for food and supplies.

More to add. Yesterday @JAG1 and I went on a bicycle ride around June Lake loop. We cheated and got @IBMobile to haul us up to the top of the loop. You start out at the Chevron station, but you get a short down hill to climb again. You break over the top and it was fun downhill trip till the bottom near Silver Lake. @IBMobile headed to Grant Lake fishing where the end of the loop is. It about 15 miles. Beautiful scenery. Waterfalls, etc.

Then once we teamed ba k up at Grant Lake we found out @IBMobile was dozing out and caught a 3 pound trout. Nice!

The adventure now changed a bit to check out the upside down house in Lee Vining, CA. Interresting little monument.

I have to admit Dave and @IBMobile both are excellent cooks. We had tri tip, Mexican food, spaghetti, etc. High five to both of them.

@JAG1 is a very active guy. He's always hunting me down for another hike or bicycle rides. Never boring with this group. Even in the evening siting around the camp fire we get discussion of all types and we all learn something every night. Diesel talk, camping stories, life events, etc. Never boring even in conversations. Dave happens to have battery background, @IBMobile with Volvo, myself with Cummins, @JAG1 with construction. Always something to share and talk about.

As for me today is my last day here. I figure 2 days travel to get home. Thursday morning I'm going to hitch up roll North to Idaho. Yeah I've had my full of camping, adventure, and relaxing. Time to return to normal life and get moving back home. I've got a new adventure at home, and things to finalize and release to you guys and gals.

More to come... still gotta get home yet.

I'm hoping that this starts to get other members gathering up to share time and experiences. Personal fun, shop talk, or just learn from each other. I highly suggest to talk to other members in your area and get a together share time and fun with other member. Gotta keep this family strong. Just gotta do it!

Thursday morning I'm gone. I'm pretty sure @IBMobile and @JAG1 are leaving the same day.

I'm on my way home since 8am PDT. It's been super windy. Bucking a head wind since I hit I80 east. Fastest I can safely travel is 55 to maybe 60 MPH. Bucking 30 to 40MPH win had 135 miles burned up 18.7 gallons. Ouch. Then fighting the transmission temps. Once I got on US95 and backed down everything was fine. Made from camp Annett's Mono Village to McDermitt, NV. I'm spent and camping in the casino lot tonight.

Good morning all... My last leg home starts early being ive got a long day. I've got about 5 hours of travel left. Still got to restock food for home and also move back into the house today. @JAG1 called last night to let me he enjoyed the trip. Found out we both made good travel being he made the southern border to Oregon. It was a very enjoyable trip being with long time friends from the website. I hope others start to consider creating their own get together's in their local areas. There is some much to learn from other members. Im looking forward to doing this again.

Well my first leg in Oregon without wind oh my Gawd. EGTs are 400 degrees cooler. I'm now stating to see much better MPG. Trans is staying almost 40 degrees cooler. Wind is a huge factor. Back to travelling...

I'm safely home and in one piece. This closes out this thread more or less. Idaho was quite different to come home to. All the fields south of Council ID are bright green and like emerald carpet. Certain comfort of rolling it to your home area and just knowing your home. TNow the weekend task of unpacking and getting ready for the work week. I've got ton of phone calls and now gotta get my work plan started for the week.

He's distant related to Donald Trump :)

Sorry we couldn't meet up @leety Maybe next time, I hope :thumb1:

I bucked head winds all day the day we left. Auto trans temps weren't bad, high as 150 at times.

Those moments when I noticed everyone staring at his hair, I would say, ''no he's not weird''! it was funny lol.

I've got no problem with being different and wild. I see it this way tattoo's are permanent, piercings rather painful, etc. Again I can change a hair as quick as changing hats. I can go back to work and I don't have to keep it. Oh trust me ive got fun plans for that wig yet.
