I have used the fluid film in the spray cans for flywheels and engine blocks and that kind of thing. It does work really well but really stinks and leaves a film like the name implies. I don't live near the ocean but during the winter here there is enough salt and other truck eating chemicals dumped on the road to fill an ocean. It gets a little expensive but I wash the truck as good as possible and let it sit for a day or two to dry out and then coat everything underneath with WD-40. Afriend of mine uses an old undercoating gun and used motor oil as a rust proofer. Both seem to work pretty good, I just don't want old motor oil on everything when I have to work on it.

I've heard of the used motor oil idea too i does work it just everything is messy. Since Idaho uses a lot of salt on the road I just wash the truck every week. Even in the dead of winter I rinse down the frame and wheel wells the best I can. So far I'm doing really well holding rust at bay. Now for bare metal I'll get out the Kylon tuneup and fix that up quick...

i would take the truck apart in stages and clean it and then use POR-15 on it. this is my summer plan, but who knows with all the other projects going on around here.

you could use rubberized undercoating and spray the frame with that:shrug:

The places where our trucks rust is the doors. WD40 on the seams around the rubber, fogging oil up the drain holes. The fenders where you open the hood is an air fent, spray into w/ water everytime you wash your truck. Crawl under your truck in the rocker area are rubber plugs spray 'em down w/ WD40 to make 'em come out easier & spray holes w/ WVO, Fogging oil or UMO. Whatever you have. Also do the same w/ the area above the bed fender liners.The guy that does rust repair work up the road from me uses por15 on his rust repair work. He buys a patch panel cuts out the entire area & glues it in w/ panel adheasive but after he uses por15. He says his patches last longer than the rest of the truck.
