For my truck in the signature. No codes. Batteries clean. 13.8 to 13.9 volts. Tranny flush 20k ago. Fluid is red and no burnt smell to it. We used the truck to flatbed my sons' 06 Dodge home the other day. The trans temp light came on as he was coming up our hill. Now for the symptom: in 3rd gear it sometimes will not kick into 3rd gear. It will shift from 1st to 2nd. Tranny works in R, 1, and 2 positions. Any suggestions?

Gasser, Mine started doing the same thing when I changed my fluid & filter 2-3 shift. I but a bottle of Lucas trans no slip in it & it seems to help. Yesterday, I was pulling a 6x12 inclosed trailer w 50 bales of hay & 5 bags of horse feed w/ no issue. I drove at least 75 miles hyway & city driving. Sometimes, when that light comes on it's too late, :cry:that's why I put a trans temp gauge in mine too while I was at it! Someone else on here did the same thing w/ the F&F change & was fine too. The Lucas helped mine & my TC has been diagnosed w/ being or getting weak. Mine has 190K so I can't _____! Good luck,Dave

Any problems with 'REVERSE" ?? The bands are engaged in 1-2 (front) and 2-3(rear) shifts I think. But I don't think that would prevent you from going to 3rd - it would just slip or be late shift.Does it shift normally from 1-2 when driving ?? Its just third ? Do you have a shift kit or updated VB on the truck - how many miles on tranny.I *think* if you have a weak TC you will feel it most taking off ....... and especially under acceleration where it will slip the lockup clutches more easy.So thinking out loud 3rd gear would more related to the TPS and the line pressures - when they are reached the setting for shift they would apply the bands to shift the clutches and shift 2-3. Thats the image in my head ...... curious if you have a shift kit and modified VB

I think the easiest way to diagnose would be checking the line pressures out of the side ports - but you would need the manual on what they should be and tolerances should be. You can pick up a shift kit for $100 and governor for another ~$100 - which means if you have the time you can do all that for around $200-$250. Else buy an uvpgraded valve body for $400. Its a good thing to do on these trannies anyway. how many miles on the existing tranny ?

Basically he told me after he got done with it, I would not have ANY problems with it. All of the stuff that I have read on the forum for auto upgrades he is doing. This is going to hurt the pocketbook! :spend: I figure if I got the engine that can move a mountain I might as well have the tranny to go with it.

So, what is this costing, if I may ask? My trans was low a qt. so I put in another bottle of Lucas Trans Fix & had no problems taking it on vacation, 866 miles!

Oh Man! I like the unlimited part! A Transmission specialist told me that if you change the fluid in an auto every 30K, the tranny should last the life of the vehicle. I don't know about in a tow vehicle like we put ours through. I did put a mechanical trans temp gauge in I only had it off the 130 degree F mark only a few times. So for what I use my truck for I may be OK w/ that statement. I still want to see a rebuild of a 47RE, that would be so cool if that gets up on here! Dave

Like I said, this guy worked at a Dodge dealership and he told me if you get 100K out of an automatic you should hug it! I feel lucky to get 140K out of mine. Plus all of the threads on autos' just made me realize it was a matter of time before mine went. Plus the cost wasn't traumatic either!

Oooohhhhhh, Don't expect to have much more than a stock tranny from there. If I were you I would either contact Dave Goerend (www.goerend.com) or DTT (http://www.dieseltrans.com/) for a tranny that you will be much happier with.

Sorry Meant for $3700 are you also getting billet input/intermediate/output etc ?? Upgraded VB ?? For what its worth I agree with MnTom. I have been all over the tranny stuff with my truck ........ and obviously every1 got opinions - but here's why (as I understand it). Stock tranny rebuilt kit is around $500-600. To drop tranny and rebuild and put back in is 8 hours (lets say $90 p/h) . So that around $1300 with new clutches, new billet apply lever and billet bands. The rest of the cost for a good tranny comes in Upgraded VB with solenoids, + line pressure though custom port machining , and heavier valve springs and check valves + $400 Tripple Disk TC for clutches to hold increased HP - $1200 Billet shafts - $900 for input (you can add billet intermoutput and flex plate for boosted laucnhes/sled pulling etc) Anyway - so basically around $1300(refresh/upgrade of core) + $400 (matching VB) + $1200 (3x disk TC) + $(900 input billet) This gets you to $3800 (similar to your qoute) - so I would assume this is what your getting. Given its AAMCO though I doubt it - but you never know - they are all different Anyway - there's some info on a tranny that should hold 600 HP and come with 2-3 year warranty (100000 miles). I would check with AMMCO on what your getting exactly - itemized. I would definately also speak with DTT or Dave Goerand on their costs. They are a little higher - but their service/warrant is 2nd to none. Either way - hope the info helps - or you already knew it all - like I said everyone has an opinion - but thats how I look a the costs in order to determine I have a well built tranny and why it cost what it cost based on what I got

Yeah - and one other thing - resale would be better with a Goerand under her than an AAMCO Something I didn't think of when I got my revmax stuff

I am definitely still planning on posting the rebuild of a 47re. Trying to wait until I can get the parts I want for it but it seems like everyone is so eager for it I might just have to tear it apart and put it back together for the sake of the pics and wait until I can get the pieces I want and do it again.

Right now I am planning on tearing the trans apart next weekend. I've never had one of these apart before so it will be a learning experience for all. Going to get as many pics as possible. I'm not sure if any special tools are required but I'm sure if so I don't have them, lol. So if I run into that I guess I'll have a second thread to start on how to make the tools, lol.
