Posted July 31, 201113 yr I get this short high pitch squeal every time I shut the engine off. Sounds like a belt squeal but I`m not sure. neighbor said it could be a bad damper? What say you? Tx. 2001 dodge Ram, 5.9L 47re Trans.
July 31, 201113 yr Fairly normal, the motor stops faster than the belt can. I beleive there is a fix, but don't recall at the moment.. could be as simple as a new belt and/or tensioner.
July 31, 201113 yr got a new belt on mine. they just sneeze every so often. mine has done it for 10 years.

August 1, 201113 yr Owner Good Ol' Cummins Power Chirp... Totally normal the engine stops rather sudden and the belt slips a bit. Mine has done it from day one...
August 2, 201113 yr All that noise is is your shut down attentuator. After all, if it didn't do it how would you know if it stopped or not?
