Posted November 18, 201113 yr My right front axle seal is leaking and I'm wondering how to change it. I have the CAD apart and I can see myself getting the old one popped out but driving a new one in looks a little difficult. Does Dodge have a special tool to do this?
November 18, 201113 yr get some allthread rod, big washers the same diameter as the seal and allthread protective covering the length of the rod. insert this and just start tightening to drive the seal in.

November 19, 201113 yr There is all kinds of room to just tap the seal in from inside the housing just like you would any other seal.Just did both sides of my 02 a couple months ago. Harder getting the old ones out than getting the new ones in.

Your truck must have a different axle than mine or else you're pretty talented with a hammer:lol: I had about a 2" by 3" hole to to work in so it's pretty hard to swing a tapper in that. So I cut a circle the size of the seal out of a some 1/4" plate, drilled a hole in the center and used a piece of threaded rod to pull it in.

I have been doing it for a living for 20 years so I am a bit unique in how I do things, plus it helps to have a good selection of hammers as well, there is always one that is just right for every job. If the hammer is heavy enough it only requires taps.
