For a while now, I have been debating if I should put a TC switch in. I know of the benefits I could get from it, but what about the negative?I want to do the switch because I want to maximize the fuel milage by reducing the fluid coupling of the automatic, and reducing heat.Anyone done it and what to do and not to do with it? At that rpm do you shut it off at? Also, could this be a good way to substitute for being able to use an exhaust brake?

I have had one for a few years and its nice to have, especially on a cold morning to keep the rpm's down. If I turn it on I keep my finger on it the whole time im driving so I dont forget. I did forget one time and I thought my brakes went out because it kept pushing me along and didnt want to stop. If im coming to a stop I turn it off at about 1000 rpm, if I just have to slow down I unlock between 40-45 so not to slip my convertor.

No. Because as long as its locked up it will not gear down it will remain it what ever gear its in.

Now, that is interesting. I figured you would be able to just stop and it die on you like a manual. Looks like the truck has some torque!

O yea, that is the other thing, I was reading that if its locked and you do not allow it to unlock to let it shift you can break parts?

I have one too and love it. It's really nice for towing. I always make sure it's off when it's going to shift just to prevent those broken parts:lol:

Not wanting to hijack, but I have been thinking of doing one myself and i haven't found an answer to this.......When towing a steep grade should a person use the lock up switch in 1sf and 2nd? Will the TC lock up in 1st and 2nd?Thanks and sorry to step in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The torc will not lock up in 1st or 2nd with the stock valve body. There are aftermarket valve bodies available that will allow this tho. I'm saving my money to get one. I do some towing where it would be very handy to have.

Like taking a manual tranny and leaving in high gear and rolling up to a stop sign and stopping with only the brake and not pushing the clutch in.:nono:

Snapped shafts (input I think), takes out TC and pump and poissibly more depending on RPM at the time and luck. I hear you should only do this with a billet input and have the 3xdisk and VB matched. I have no real world experience however - just what I have read. I would love to do this - but don't like the idea of snapped shafts so upgrading to bigger brakes.

I tried it on mine about 10 years ago, but since mine is one of the early 47RE transmissions the software running the tranny would not let it work right. All mine would do is go into limp mode without a reflash, But I do know that as soon as mine shifted into second with the lock on it would stall the engine. It would kill it so quick you wouldn't believe it! Anyhow, I don't have one but I do recall Bill K. of DTT saying a locked shift is quite hard on the components.
