Posted November 3, 201212 yr Anyone know the difference between the Cali 235 and the not-Cali 250? Is it just the ECM or something different? I just jumped to a 04 Cali Cummins SO....
November 3, 201212 yr I have always heard that a smarty sr will change the programming to the Bo 305/555 setup plus add the power that a smarty does to a 305/555 truck.
November 3, 201212 yr Just the 'puter from what I remember reading!!!! That said, AH64ID will have the answers for sure...................just hang around a bit!!!!!
November 5, 201212 yr Author I have always heard that a smarty sr will change the programming to the Bo 305/555 setup plus add the power that a smarty does to a 305/555 truck. You mean the SSR? Or is the sr a different model?
November 5, 201212 yr My 04 is the cali model and with the smarty you will never know the difference - - - Updated - - - You mean the SSR? Or is the sr a different model? They are referring to the S-06 which is the sr model of smarty compared to the J-06 which is the jr model. The jr has 3 power levels and the sr has 10.
November 6, 201212 yr The difference is programming. I think the piston cooling nozzles are different between the cali/so and the HO. Yes a Smarty takes a cali/SO and then makes them a HO and then adds power. That's the motor, other differences may be a 47RE trans or 10.5" rear axle, but I think that was isolated to the MY03 trucks.
November 7, 201212 yr Author So if I got a new smarty and put the "Return to Stock" I'll get the HO tune?
November 7, 201212 yr No, stock will be stock (SO or Cali), but the modified tunes are based on HO tunes.
November 8, 201212 yr No, stock will be stock (SO or Cali), but the modified tunes are based on HO tunes. This is off the Mads website Q. Which version of "stock" will the Smarty come with. A. Smarty does NOT download the complete original software from the ECM and does not store it into it's memory. That is for a simple reason. The protocol in the ECM does not allow to read the flash memory. How can Smarty then return to stock? Simple he has all the latest stock softwares already on board. When you choose to return the truck back to stock, Smarty takes the stock software from it's memory and updates the ECM with that software.
November 8, 201212 yr Correct, but it puts the stock software for your OEM configuration back in. If it were to make a SO an HO on the stock tune then it wouldn't have been undetectable by the dealership.
November 12, 201212 yr Author So let me get this straight.....me having the Calo/SO, if I put the Smarty on the 60hp no added timing setting, it will change my "base tune" to the HO (50-70hp gain) AND add the 60hp Smarty tune totaling 110-130 gain?
