My truck didn't come with fog lights. Want to install in the bumper in the OEM location. I see that on eBay that there are lights with mounts. I've got the wiring figured out thanks to Michael's diagram for driving lights (separate thread). Can I just bolt these suckers on the existing bumper without the inserts?been readin around the site. Some are saying the factory fog lights are worthless. Ive got them on my 2006 mega cab and I like em. Are the 3rd gen lights better?

My 01.5 fog lights are pretty worthless... just a crappy decorative light. Low power, crappy lens & reflector. The bulbs for mine were not cheap. I see an LED conversion for my era that I might consider... My classic fogs on my RoadRunner were off road H1 halogen... with a low wide beam.

I never had factory fogs on my 02 but have them on my 05 and I never use them as I consider them useless as well, I think my dome light would throw as much light as far as the factory fogs do. But my posts in the other thread state my preference.

Ok, so I am going to differ a little on this reply. I have the factory foglights on my '05 and they haven't really been a great deal of help when turned on. But when I did the 'brite Box' upgrade on my headlights I also did the upgrade on the foglights and I actually get some useable light from the fog units now.I am not saying they are the greatest thing since sliced bread but I can use them and I do use them now.The uprade is a mere $20 socket replacement that allows you to install a larger bulb (more lumens) than the stock one. However, I will say that I am continually looking for a round led fixture that i can adapt into the OEM foglight location. This will be even brighter than the upgrade I've made to the existing fog lights.

Ok then. OEM not adequate. Since I'm having to make a light bar for behind my grill I'll mount 5" fog lights there. Not going to use rebar though.

I don't think there's room behind the grill with the Cummins, unless you find something really thin. Maybe LED? Mike's gasser has lights behind the grill. The Diesel has them under the front. I wouldn't want to swear to it but I think my old Hella halogens were thin but that was 100 years ago.

After my crash, I replaced the fogs on my 2nd gen with the late 2nd gen clear lens free-form reflector fogs and they made a noticeable difference. Much better than the stock 97 era fluted lens lights.the 3rd gen I'm getting has no factory fogs. I'm going to wait and see what sort of light the factory headlights put out before I go wild, but with the way that '07 bumper is, I'm most likely going to put a 24-36" LED light bar in that large open space. I'm only 5'7" so I always use the holes in the bumper for steps, that wouldn't leave much room with the way the 2nd gen bumper is laid out so I didn't go down that route on the '97.

Where did you see the LED conversion kit ? I see a truck in my town that has LED's for the driving lights but haven't been able to get around when he's stopped somewhere to ask him about them

Drat! I didn't save the link. I was looking for something else when I saw it.

Totally agree with this... The early ones I had sucked. I have the 02 fogs now and they are good. No complaints. I am not sure what bulbs are in there, probably ultra bright xeons or whatever but they work.

Yeah, the ones I have don't have the diffuser style lens. Its a clear lens.

Mine are the clear lens also, no diffusers. I have never used them in the fog, but turn them on at night sometimes for more light. I use them in the rv park at night instead of my head lights late at night.
