I have just aquired a S06POD. i programed my 04. to software 3. drove it a few miles. not much of a differnace. not what i was expecting anyhow.

then went to sw9. now down low i see very little differance, but mid throttle it jumps and runs nice.

I'm compairing this to my older 02. i had an edge comp on that one. and lemme tell you, when you load the skinny peddle it'd set you back in the seat, it pulled hard.

this truck even on 9 i don't feel pulls all that hard. i get very little black smoke. i have not adjusted my waste gate. as i have yet to learn how (pointers welcome).

before i get flamed to much, i do not have gauges as of yet. i do not know what my rail pressure is. i'm most certain my EGT's are not high as i'm not getting the balck cloud. i have not ran it hard for long distances just in case the EGT's are on the high side.

does it seem like it's working right? or is something wrong with my truck? no codes,

thoughts please.

yes the LP works. i can hear it run when i cycle the key. it's in tank. but it is very quiet. i'll try n find the way to measure it tonight and maybe tomorrow after it stops raining i can get a flow measurement. i went to the cat 2um filter a few months ago 7800 miles, maybe i should go back to the FS1000.

i wonder if my altitude 7000 ft, has an effect.

i found http://www.thedieselgarage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=538

maybe i'm reading it wrong.

and my oil capacity is different. mine uses 12.5 qt.

i think there is a lot of misinformation around the interwebs.

once switching to syn you cant go back to dyno? BS.

Edited by Killer223

Elevation will increase smoke, not decrease it.

CR's have a 12qt capacity.

You can switch as much as you want between dyno and syn.

Mines 12.5, at 12 it's halfway down the safe zone.

The smarty does give me more power, today I towed my trailer, I did notice a difference there. Mid rpm 2k-2800 was more responsive towing.

At what temp? Unless you have just been towing half-way is proper for 140-180° coolant temp. The cross hatch is 2qts long.

You may  prefer 12.5, but it's a 12qt system.

Maybe it's what it's supposed to be and just different than the older truck? I know the CR's are less aggressive than the 12V's, and not sure on 24V's. Smoother doesn't always mean less power.

I am pretty sure 2nd Gen's were 11.0 or 11.5 qts. I'll have to peek at the FSM.

EDIT: 1996 FSM called for 10qts w/ Filter and the 2001 FSM called for 11.0 w/ Filter.

I always did 12. Never had one single problem. 3 gals is way easier than to have qts laying around

I think many people do/did..

With my bypass I need 14, so I buy a 2.5 and a 1.0 gallon jug from Amsoil.

Hey, sorry I missed this till now. Been busy. Somethin definitely isn't right. Have mine on 5 and when I put my foot into it I am makin all kinds of ruckus.

Might want to go to Brian's forum and get some answers. You should be blowing smoke and spinning tires.

Not sure I know of Brian's forum,

Any thoughts on what to check on the truck?

Why not just send him a PM from here? He should get an e-mail telling him he has a message here. He goes by Brian@Smarty here.

I don't think is a problem with the smarty, I think it's my truck but I'm not sure where to start looking.

I would check your lift pump flow. I cant remember specs and not at home so i cant remember.

Next thing to do is torque connector tubes and check valve lash.

Thanks mopar, wouldn't I be making oil if tubes are loose? I'm at 196k valve lash was gonna happen at 200k guess early won't hurt.

Thanks again.

No the connector tubes are only connected to the fuel return in the head. Will cause your rail pressure to drop since your pressure is going back to the tank. The spec used to be 37 ft lbs. But Im thinking they are doing something like 40-41 ft lbs
