Anyone else have the problem of getting the tailgate handle to release both latches at the same time? I have to manually flip the catch on the passenger side and then lift the handle to open the tailgate. No wear on the pivot points, plastic rod retainers not worn.

I don't have that problem, but I have to manually push my handle back in so the latches will catch when I close the tailgate.  My latches are fine, but the handle seems to bind a little bit.

Something is wore out for it not being able to pull enough to release. You might have to pull the latch out and inspect closer.

Lubrication

same here, lubrication if you can get to it. I sprayed a whole bunch in my tailgate at different angles.

Get a spray can of Liquid Wrench® lubricating oil. I've found that it works good and is covenant to use. Wal-Mart sells it. WD-40 evaporates after a few days and it's back to the same problem. One of my customers worked at the WD-40 plant here in San Diego. He said that it was basically cut kerosine.

White lithium grease is what we use quite a bit of at the shop (Lindy's). Matter of fact I grab the can of PB blaster and Lindy stopped me and told me to use the white lithium grease. Shake the can well and spray everything very well. You'll be surprised it will stick to everything very well and stay lubricated for months into the future. Stopped a customer's door from squeaking.

White lithium will not run into some spots or down cables and in to cracks like oil will.

I have two tailgates, both have the same issue. Like I said, I disassembled one, and found no wear on the actuating rod holes or clips. Both latch mechanisms are free and well lubricated. I'll post pics later of the only possible wear points
