Posted March 29, 201510 yr hello everyone, got a question. what would cause only two or three of 10 bulbs to light up on rear (run, turn, brake.) tail lamps?
March 29, 201510 yr Owner Ok. What I would do is pull the bulb out and then carefully using test leads to place positive and negative power on the right contacts and see whats going on. If the LED's are burnt out or damaged then I guess it's time for replacement.
March 30, 201510 yr Author Ya I suppose I should've been more specific, usually helps. I have 4 run, turn, brake oval shape (2"x 6") LEDs in back. the very top and very bottom light up bright, but the one's in the center or middle are only lite up real faint. my welding rig is DOT'd so that has me a little nervous since I have to leave with it today. As always, Thank you.
March 30, 201510 yr Could be a bad ground or power to those bulbs, they may have enough power to light up faintly but there's probably a bad connection somewhere, I usually find a corroding spot on the power write when LED's do what you describe. But if they are dim on both tail and turn then it's probably a ground problem. Edited March 30, 201510 yr by bjytech
March 30, 201510 yr Staff I gave my old flatbed new leds 2 weeks ago. the marker lights are brighter than the regular tail lights till you hit the brakes, then they are just as bright but bigger of course. I think the brake lights should be the brightest over all others but, I guess that's the way they make them. I don't like the way the leds burn out, slowly loosing one or two little bulbs at a time. They charge too much when they only last about 5 years and begin to go bad.
March 30, 201510 yr Owner Funny part is all tail light wiring is grounded to the front left fender side shield. So there is no ground connection even back at the tail of the truck to look for.
April 4, 201510 yr I sell a lot of different brands of LED lighting for over the road trucks. I wont mention brands unless in a PM but I will say this. Look for a brand of LED that has a good warranty. I have one brand that I can replace at no cost to the customer even if one LED goes out for any reason. (I havent had to replace more than a handful over the last 5 years). LED's are a great product and they are getting better everyday. There are a lot of companies making LED's but a lot of them arent very good quality. A lot of LED's still have pretty weak circuit board internally and will cause problems such as individual LED's going out, parts of the light not working, etc.
April 6, 201510 yr Author well, they all light up bright under braking. I guess that's all that matters. thnx every one.
April 14, 201510 yr I am under the assumption that the tail lights aren't LED stock for a 2001. Are there any good replacements out there that anyone would recommend?
April 14, 201510 yr Owner Ummm... Stock bulbs. Funny thing is I've still got factory light bulbs all the way around the truck yet (except headlights). Never lost a taillight yet. http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx/Taillight-Bulb/_/R-LMA3157_0455488658
