oh man i hope nobody ever refers to me as a ford boy again. the charger is sweet though, i would concider possibly adding some more gauges on top of the dash though (you can never have to many) i was just always partial to that body style and my friends father in law passed and it became available payed way to much for it though:broke:
  2. 383 or 440? ever watch burn notice on usa i love that show and thats the car i think.
  3. well the thick black smoke is a overfuel condition, this can be contributed to a few things, clogged air cleaner, bad turbo, bad boost sensor, ecm problem, or compression issues in engine. the blow-by and residue is probably a result of the overfuel diesel getting down in the oil and thinning it out. with no gauges you will have to go old school, easy check on the turbo is to remove air cleaner at turbo grab the impeller wheel and see if it has any up/down travel or chipped fins. boost sensor dosent have to throw a code to be bad but you will have to have a scanner with live data to ck parameters or just replace, not that expensive. if you havent got to a source of the problem by now, you have to start checking expensive problems, and might want to see a shop. if you locate and fix the problem, change oil and the blow-by issue should clear up over a short time. good luck

all the vacuum actuators on the front headlights are rebuilt and work good, and the original tick tock taillights work perfect, that old motor in the trunk is loud though. you can actually hear the motor breaking the contacts but 40+ years old i can't complain. we do alot of fuel injection conversions on old cars here, it's night and day differance from a carb. my customers love there conversions.

knocked the dust off my toy today and did some sanding, figured i'd snap some pics. and give yall a peek. she's a 67 mercury cougar (first year) originally a 289 auto, now a 302ho fuel injected and t-5 manual. it runs perfect with painless wiring harness and no check engine light. converted to 4 wheel power disc brakes and a 8.8 posi rear-end. she was a old drag car and severly rusted, almost all sheet metal is new, had to cut out roll cage and add sub frames. i want it to be a daily driver and easy for my wife to take off in. 2 years in the making and completly built by my hands. one day it might be driven by my hands too but thats still a long way away. well i've shared today its not a dodge but i've got my hands in those too. have to get some pics of the little red express with the viper motor and 6-speed at the shop. thanks for lookin!
  6. sweet i see suzuki badges but never seen that body in the states it must get like 70 mpg. steering wheels on the wrong side though:cookoo: does it get some getting use too.
  7. those are great instructional videos. its actually a pretty straight forward job. i would just push the issue of making sure the pump key is at 12 oclock it will fall in the gearcase if not paying attention then it wont be such a easy job. and i dont have a special puller. i use a standard t-bar puller from oreilly's i've had for years and it works great.
  8. ahh that makes more sense the movies always show small little parking garages in japan. do you have a sweet little hot rod scooter over there:thumb1:
  9. no offense taken cheap plastic parts are the future man!!!
  10. no problem, well under way already:thumbup2:
  11. yes thats the stuff, it is a top end cylinder lube at its core and i don't think it will harm anything. i've ran it in my diesel before with no problems. it's not nearly as noticable of a smell as in methanol but you can still pick it up in the air
  12. the airbags might not be a neccesatiy but i hate that sagging on the rear of the truck and if its level it should be more stable. it will put some weight back on the front axle which gets a little light in the steering.
  13. okinawa japan, where the hell do you park that thing over there. 98wl:stuned:
  14. yes the alarm can be nstalled as to kill the ignition circuit to th ecm. no ecm turning on no start. the next time you reproduce the no start check to see if the check engine light is displayed on the instrument cluster this will tell you if the ecm is powered up. (on is good)

haha small is right, heres a pic. of the beach where i live. all that blue stuff in the foreground is called the gulf of mexico for you mountain dwellers.
  16. i just figured out why the mopar insignias keep turning red and blue, sweet. i must now strive to keep them all blue, blue we must have blue. i also just recieved a gear head award how cool is that! i'm finally chasing down the old timers around here.:banghead: :cool:they now call me MISTER KOYOTE!!! --- Update to the previous post... maybe the (in the heat of the night) referance was a bit overboard for a national audiance.

i find my truck sinks like a brick in loose stuff so i no longer take it off road. the only great advantage of my 4x4 is shear pulling power in low range i've pulled a school bus out the ditch on the side of the road and recently ripped a chrysler sebring in half that was high centered on a fire hydrant, ripped the bumper and front facia smooth off the front of that car.
  18. wiring is definatley my weakness (well that and typing) when it comes to general automotive. but i do try to increase my knowledge when classes are available locally. i appreciate the info. and another quick question. is there any advantages to switching ground versus power through a switch, i know most ecm's now a days uses switched grounds to perform functions whereas early imports used switched power through ecm's just trying to better understand the complexities of current flow?

who knew you could option a travel trailer with swimming pool!
  20. i'm still leaning torward the harness. check to see the price of that thing yet. the motorhome i replaced one in had a miss that we could not isolate and the harness ohmed out fine to cummins specs. it was under warranty so cummins footed the bill on that and it did cure the problem. (something to concider before blowing it up) good luck man!
  21. ive owned my truck for 6 years and it had a block heater when purchased, never plugged it in though. i wander if they go bad from sitting concidering its submerged in the coolant system. i'm liable to plug it in and blow every circuit breaker in the house or give my charging system a 110v super charge!
  22. i want to install air bags on my rear-end to compensate when gooseneck is severly loaded and possibaly train horns. so i need a air supply figured i would get the system installed today and while i was at it i am going to install some feed lines to the bumpers incase i want to air up a tire or run a impact. now i have 20 gallons of storage for compressed air and no compressors
  23. ahhhhhh!!!!!!! me and my dog came in to the shop to install onboard air on my dodge today and i spent the better part of the day installing air compressors in the tool box, holding tanks in and under the bed, wiring up sensors and pressure gauges. figured i would check the system out before installing quick connects on the bumpers front and rear, found and repaired a few leaks and watched the pressure build and all of a sudden i blew a fuse on one compressor, checked wiring and cooled off unit tried again and pop. this sucks then found second compressor leaking at head gasket. well i guess thats what i get for installing cut-offs from a mini truck. oh-well guess ill do a right up on disassembling and rebuilding air compressors if i can find parts.
  24. ahhhh thank you great wise one, i am but a fly in the poo discarted by you that grows beautiful roses in the garden of eden. you should teach automotive engineering, care to give a lesson on understanding waveforms of various sensors on a snap-on modis scanner?
  25. the disadvantage to running a mechanical pressure gauge in the cab is the fact that there is now diesel fuel in the cab with you and you could imagine the mess if it goes to leaking:nono: i suggest installing a electric gauge with sending unit more complex setup but no fuel in cab ive installed isspro gauges with good luck there pretty much oem standard in heavy duty applications so simple well built gauge
