3 cylinder high idle intermittently switching to 6
So it finally got cold enough to kick on the 3 cylinder high idle. After it runs for about 5 minutes I noticed that it intermittently switches to 6 cylinder high idle. I've had high idle for 3 years and this has never happened. When it does it it only does it for a second or less then it goes right back to 3 cylinder. Once it starts it does it 5-10 times per minute. I have searched on many forums with no findings of similar symptoms. Wondering if anyone has any idea on possible causes or has seen any threads with info on the topic.I'm going to attach a data log from quadzilla. It happened multiple times here 3cylhi.csv Here's a video, can slightly hear it Hi.mp4

Necessary to jump up to the 18psi cap at the same time?

Do you happen to have a part number? Local dealer can't figure out anything without a part number or last 8 of the vin! ? I want this now!

Lol! It's true! They act as if it's top secret and can't just be bought and tested by another shop!! So you were already on the theory that some of us are trying too help to prove! Sweet

Is this a thing? That would be great.. I would love to run 200-210, and not 190-200. Does it warm up the same? What about maintaining temp when cold out and idling?

If possible, try to listen how it sounds on factory high idle, in comparison to how it does now.. Might be able to "hear" the timing if it's much different than now

I would assume you keep a fairly good log of actual mileage, if so I would say without changing Tunes driving habits or anything go ahead and dryvit for a full tank or two to see if the mileage is changed at all. Driving normally would also give you time and the ability to see possibly small changes in everyday driving situations.

I think with these vp44 trucks, the biggest downfall here is no 2 are the same... I feel like the quality control was subpar. It seems like 5 identical trucks would behave in 5 totally different ways for whatever reason. There all a little "special" if you will.

For those interested, I just ordered 7x.013" vco set to 340 bar thanks to @dieselautopower

Yeah, you're probably right, but with that being said, the seller could help the buyer decide if a higher pop is needed, acceptable for the application and ultimately decide if they are willing to sell to the buyer, just like many do now.. Just like most tuners won't sell a 250hp tune to a guy with a stock truck, although it can add more confusion and make it more difficult, especially in an industry that everybody already knows everything...

I can see that side too, but it's not that much different than the same Joe Blow that wants to run 300 horsepower injectors on his otherwise stock vp44 truck with no lift pump or upgrades of any sort. That happens almost daily

I can Agree with that... I'm still willing to put time into learning more about it though haha

It would just be really cool to get some real world findings rather than two people, or more just repeating the old because I said so" over and over again. It really seems like there was some small amount of testing done with higher Pop pressure with some small negative effects and it was just given up.

From reading through here it seems that @kzimmer is having occasionally stalls with his at 365 bar.. That does seem like a stalling issue to me, because a daily driver should NEVER shall imo... I think that 340-350 would be the max for auto especially

Little help guys... What size should I get.. I have a modified hx35 62/64/12 over s475/96/1.32. I also have a spare 14cm housing for hx35. I'm currently thinking 7x.013 but idk sac or vco. What size/tip you guys think I should try? Remember this is a daily driver and I want it to be friendly and the least smoke possible.. Just looking for opinions

@Carbur8tr my conversation was actually with Seth Haley but it was almost as if he copied and pasted from @Me78569 compd post... Like we both stated I think people are unwilling to try new things on a dying truck and are just repeating the old rhetoric without giving the new technology of the quad any thought. The fact that a quad and 7x.012-.014 can use more fuel than the vp can handle should negate the lost duration anyway, I think you could pull most if not all of it back with a larger pump stretch... No one can open their minds with old things... @dieselautopower I'll pm you. Talked to you a few months back on some injectors, but have just still been trying to figure mine out.. I'm over the 6 hole thing, they are junk and not made for the street period!

I understand this and agree completely. Honestly all I have seen for facts opposing this view is "experience" either way I hate my 6x.013 injectors and I'm guessing that they are not what they claim to be.. 6 holes are way overrated never ever buy them lol.. At this point id run ddp or ii injectors ?

I just read that thread... Its like I wrote a page out of it in the info I posted a little bit ago... Lol... I think when I get some money I'm going to get some 7x.013-.014 set to 320-330 bar from Weston or Ryan haley and get rid of the crap I have now.. I'm over these 6 home Hole junk injectors.. I would like to send them to a 3rd party and see what they really are....

Thanks I'll check it out tonight. I still feel like people can't comprehend the capabilities of the quad and what things may be possible now that weren't in the past...yes they might be old and outdated, but the technology advancement of the v2 and the adjustability has made things that never used to work, now work flawlessly... I think their is hidden potential that some people don't care to find because they are old and "outdated" trucks that aren't sought after by many

I started by mentioning I thought about raising pop pressure to 320-330 bar to help with idle and off idle haze from poor atomization from large injectors, and he responded with "that's a bad idea" Then I asked what the negative consequences of upping the pop pressure was and he said "stalling is the main issue, It’s more pronounced in an auto though. There will be zero benefits to raising the pressure. You’ll lose power as well." I brought up the idle haze again and atomization again and he said "The problem isn’t atomization. Most confuse intensity for atomization. Atomization is mostly controlled by the relationship of the needle and nozzle." I then asked how much timing would be lost due to higher pop and he said "Not significantly no. It will shorten duration. In effect making quantify injected less." I mentioned with the quad wire tap settings you would likely be able to pull back some of that duration and he said "not all of it, it's still a mechanical injector"

If it's of any interest to you guys I did just get a bunch of quality information on pop pressures and the benefits and consequences of raising it. Let me know if it's pertinent or has any interest to you and I can shed some light at lunch time
