1998 Dodge Ram Dash Parts.
I started a thread about headlight switches last week and thank all for information received. I also found that the part I need is out of production. I need the part that the headlight switch attaches to and is then screwed to the dash panel before the dash bezel is re-installed. If anyone has one I will be very happy to purchase it at a reasonable price, Thank you, Kerley

Ram Mud Flaps
I ordered a set of rear mud flaps and they sent me a pair of black plastic with a chrome horse on each of them. I don't know what to do with them as I don't live in south Tijuana. Mexico. What I am looking for is Molded rubber OEM mud flaps. They have to be used or after market as Dodge does not make them anymore. If anyone has bought after market mud flaps made of real rubber and moulded to fit a 1998 -2002 Dodge ram please post where you bought them, Thanks for your input. Kerley

Ram Mud Flaps
Last year I had a blow out on my right rear tire while pulling my g/n hay trailer empty. The blow out tire tore my fender mud flap almost off. The mud flap was not damaged but the rubber piece that fits between the flap and fender was torn up. Dodge no longer has this part available so I was wondering if some one has the piece that I need. I will be happy to pay you for it. I am not able to go wrecking yard hunting. Thank you, Kerley.

Tires
Thanks to each of you for the advice. I ordered new 10 ply tires this morning and will install Monday. I am retired and have severe RH so changing a tire on the side of the road is something I don't want.

Tires
Are 10ply tires really necessary on a Ram 2500 4x4 ? I have 10 ply tires on my Ram but are 10 ply really necessary ? I have owned several 3/4 ton 4x4 and got very good service with 8 ply tires plus they are about fifty bucks less than the 10 ply. I do not haul heavy loads on my truck but I do pull a 16 fool featherlite stock g/n and a 18 ft flat bed g/n trailer for hay movement. So what is your thoughts ?

Updating Dodge Computer
Well now the rest of this story.. After three days of calling the local Dodge dealer to see if the ordered parts to repair my Cummins had arrived and the lady on the phone promised to find out and call me right back, I got P'oed off and called her. She told me that only part of the parts had arrived I called again the next day and they were there and an appointment was made to install said parts. The parts sent were wrong so I asked about re programing of he Computer. I was very selective of my speech and told her how much I appreciated her concern to complete this transaction. I waited in the customers lounge where I came close to getting beat up by a three hundred pound black woman that was trying to tell me that our Nations problems were caused by an all white Congress. Anyway I was rescued by the Lady parts manager who felt bad for me having to wait so long while battling off the Beast. Final results, The Dealer programmed the computer for free and my Cummins runs great. Sorry for the long story.

Updating Dodge Computer
mopartechnician, The Dealer looked up my Vin # and told me that the Recall had not been done, They also said the Recall would only cover what ever it is that operates the fuel and if they found anything that needed to be brought up to date I would be charged minimum of $100.00 to a maximum of $350.00. You being a Mopar Technician, will you tell me just how difficult it would be for them to bring my ecm up to date, and what labor and or materials will be necessary ? How do they just up date part of the ecm ? I appreciate your imput and I am not disputing what you say, but again how does one only up date a portion of a ecm while attached to their computer?

Updating Dodge Computer
I recently found a list of factory recalls for the 1998.5 Cummins. 1. Adapter to the trailer hitch. 2. Fuel line from the fuel filter to the vp44. 3. Re Programming the on board computer. Since I do not trust the Dodge Dealership to do anything but to screw me out of my money, I called them. My mane concern was the computer. They told me that it was done with their Computer which to me means that they just plug in a code reader to see what is going on. They said that they only re programs the part that controls the fuel throttle supply under the recall, if the computer required more re programming I would be notified and I agreed to re program any other defects I would be charger a minimum of $100.00 or $350.00 to re program the total computer. Is this another DODGE RIP OFF. What do you folks know about the on board computer and is there a place other than Dodge that can do the computer work? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Slight Rattle when towing heavy load ?
I did put some {seafoam}? in to clean up my injectors but only the proper amount as stated on the bottle along with a full tank of diesel. Would this cause a problem?
-
Boost
What is the max. temp before melt down, and does the radiator cooling help with overheating?
-
DAP
I ordered parts from DAP and they treated me well also. I will be talking to them soon.

Boost
My 1998.5 Cummins is stock except for the air cleaner. I am not sure that my turbo is working as it should. I have the Auto Meter fp,op, and would like to add a Boost guage. When I haul a heavy load it is usually Hay Rolls or Cattle. My question is...Does the Boost guage indicate that the Turbo is working? and is it necessary to install a pyrometer guage as well. What guage range should I get. Pyro 0-1600 or 0-2000. Boost ..0-35...or..0-60.?

Slight Rattle when towing heavy load ?
TFaoro, My miss print, One Ounce per Gallon of Diesel. I am not sure about the valves but will do soon. CTcummins24valve.Between 1500-2000 rpm. with excess of twenty pounds fuel pressure and eighty pounds oil pressure. Pulling about six tons total.

Slight Rattle when towing heavy load ?
I was moving Hay Rolls yesterday and when on the freeway I could hear a rattle kind of like a gasser pinging under heavy throttle. When I reached the top of the hill the rattle stopped. I was running 55-6- mph. I am curious wondering about Injectors. I run 2 cycle oil from Wallmart @10z. per gallon but I filled up at the half tank mark but did not add the @ cycle oil. Could this be causing the pinging/ rattle? Or might I need to adjust the valves. Theres 202K on the clock.

Battery Tray Bolts for 1999 Cummins 24V
I took my Dodge to a body shop to install the inner fender cover and the clips that Dodge charged me $69.00 for can be bought at Harbor Freight for $5.95 for !00 clips and they are identical. I want to apologise for my rant against Dodge but they did screw me and that is a FACT.

Battery Tray Bolts for 1999 Cummins 24V
My wife stopped by the local Dodge dealer and purchased the inner fender cover clips for me. I had told her that they could not possibly cost more than ten dollars, we were both shocked they cost $69.00. I have not installed them yet. I have thirty days to return them but will be charged a 15% restocking fee. These clips are nothing but household Molly Bolts with a rubber/plastic material sprayed on them. I will buy some Molly bolts and small washers to install between the Molly and the bolt, if this works I will just loose the 15% restocking fee and figure that I just cut my losses and F..K the thieves at Dodge.

What is it?
Hawkez, No I did not. It,s been hot and very humid here in my part of Alabama and the family went camping. When I am home alone I usually stay inside as the humidity and head is not very compatable with my medications. They will be back friday pm and then I will figure something out.

What is it?
Thank you Michael for the reply but It is not the stock lift pump which I replaced with a FASS DDRP three years ago. The length of this tube is horizontal and quite dirty with oil. I am thinking that it may be some sort of puke bottle. It is hard for me to figure out as there is much talk about the 1998 and the 1999 but very little information about the 1998.5 cummins. I think that there is little talk about the 1998.5 because there were stilld working out the kinks and changes or improvements were made in the 1999. Any thoughts anyone has would be helpful.
