HP/turbos
Way too big IMO. Plan to grab some 200+hp injectors to get it going.

Turbo/Injector upgrade (Heavy Towing) Shoutout to Me78569
Exactly. x100. I just went through the same quest as you OP but I have no desire to run compounds. I built a HX40 hybrid that is a billet wheel 60/64/12 for about $600 all in. The turbo is amazing and does the job perfectly IMO in the towing application. I just finished a 7 hour round trip towing a 14k 5th wheel and the turbo performed fantastic. Agree with above... towing above level 3 (wire tap) is kind of crappy because wire tap is not conrolled very well and tends to be abrupt/jerky. The one mistake i made was buying 7x0085 injectors as an early mod when i bought this truck. I should have gone 7x10s from the start and my truck would now be done being modded.

My Hx35/40 hybrid build
Interesting. Both of you guys are running 7x10s and seeing 30-35 on level 3. This is what im after

How much boost are you seeing on level 3 of the quad on the default tuning?

I apologize for not mentioning that part of all this sooner. Truth is, you'll probably be fine with it how it is.

My idea of the ultimate towing turbo
Quick update, i towed my loaded toybox (almost 14k lbs) 6.5 hours last weekend and absolutely no issues. Turbo worked fantastic.. EGTs on the uphill climbs never over 1100 on quad level 3 with my 7x0085's. I was seeing around 25 psi boost. This makes me think i can go up to 7x10s which will give me closer to 35 psi on level 3 hopefully resulting in even more power with minimal rise in EGT. I really cant complian... truck towed the load fantastic. I maintained 65mph on the flats and never less than 50-55 up the grades.

My Hx35/40 hybrid build
Ive found that the big name diesel shops usually over charge for some of the bigger items (turbos as an example). Did you end up running yours as is, or what's the plan?
-
My Hx35/40 hybrid build
TBH, id have the shop balance them as i described only because the turbo is going to work at 30-40 psi or more. If you planned to use it on a gas car at lower boost (25 psi or so) then i wouldnt worry about it. Just my opinion above..... who knows, it might last a LONG time the way it is.
-
My Hx35/40 hybrid build
Correct but they (turbine and compressor) are each individually balanced. The turbo shop will assemble the turbine and compressor together with a locknut and balance all 3 as a unit.

My Hx35/40 hybrid build
It will be fine. The parts turbolab sells are quality parts. Ive assembled 4 turbos from him in the past 7 years and EVERY one of them is still going. It would be good to have your turbine and compressor wheels balanced before you assemble though, just to be sure. I had that done on mine when i had them open up the turbine housing.

Before buying a new MAP sensor, try pulling it off and spraying some wd-40 inside to break up some of the carbon and grit that may be in there. Use some compressed air to d0uche it out real good afterwards. I believe its a deep 30mm socket to get MAP off. Worth a shot before spending $$.

Turbolabofamerica....thats who supplied my parts too. Great guy, Austin. My billet 60/64/12 just made a 6 hour trip towing 14k lbs without issue. Love this turbo!

High EGTs, Boost Maxes Out
On what level did you see 1400 degrees? we just towed our 14k Lb 5er up a 10 mile grade that ranged from 4-6%... on level 3 with 75hp injectors and about 25psi out of my hx40 hybrid... the max I saw EGT was 1100-1150. i feel like I could have gotten into some wiretap for more power up the hill but she maintained 50 mph at the steepest part of the hill so I suppose that’s enough.

+1!!

High EGTs, Boost Maxes Out
That'll be great. Let us know how you like them. I have 75hp injectors like you and feel like i need more. Im still able to get 40+ psi with my injectors though, which brings me back to something being funky with your set up as it sits.

They aim to cut the housing to 64.8 -- 64.9mm.

Turbo Choices
3.55 gears, a tight converter, and towing heavy means there is no way i'd go larger than the .70 (12 cm) T3 on that SXE. A 62sxe (62/68/12) would be an awesome 500whp turbo that would probably do very well with those 7x12s since you can turn them down on the low side of boost curve with the Quad. I just upgraded my turbo but stayed with the Holset platform because i was installing a Pacbrake at the same time that hangs right off the turbo downpipe plate. I did a billet wheel 60mm compressor with a 10 blade 64mm turbine and opened up my 12cm hotside to accommodate. I love it... pulls hard and only spools about 200 rpm slower than the hx35.

High EGTs, Boost Maxes Out
You should be hitting 27 psi at or around 2100 rpm with that turbo.. +/- 100 rpm Do you have a boost controller or does that Smeding turbo have a higher pressure wastegate or adjustable boost elbow? Maybe attach a picture
-
High EGTs, Boost Maxes Out
Something isnt right. My quad readout is within a few psi of my mechanical gauge. My mechanical gauge ramps up much faster and is a more accurate display of the boost curve, but as far as max and minimum, the quad is still very close. When my mechanial gauge reads 38 psi, the quad will read 36 or so. What RPM are you seeing full boost on level 10? Check your wastegate. ... that's kind of what im thinking is wrong here. Stupid question, but do you have an adjustable boost elbow or another way to adjust boost?
-
High EGTs, Boost Maxes Out
Is that what the quad is saying (27 psi) or is that what your mechanical boost gauge is saying? MAP sensor could be bad giving the quad an incorrect reading. At level 10, you should be will over 27 psi even with that larger turbo. Is there any smoke coming out of the tailpipe on level 10? Im guessing large boost leak or bad MAP sensor. I suppose it could also be a massive exhaust leak, after installing that 3 piece manifold. Or maybe the wastgate is stuck open. Check the wastegate. .

Engine Stutter at 1500RPM
Do you monitor throttle percentage? When my APPS acts up, it feels exactly like what you describe. I can actually see the throttle percentage change (goes down or to 0 momentarily) when it happens.
-
High EGTs, Boost Maxes Out
How much boost are you making on the higher levels that @Me78569 suggested? You won’t make 30 psi on level 0 with those injectors and that sized turbo. provably won’t make 30 on level 3 either. You’ll need some wire tap (more fuel) to get over 30 psi. Try it at level 6,7,8 on the default programming and see how much boost it makes and report back.

My idea of the ultimate towing turbo
Thats a great idea on the injectors, but for $100, ill probably just pay it and keep my 085's as spares. Your ad says the 7x10s for VP trucks are VCO... are they actually SAC?
