Fuel Additive Testing Has Been Done!
Mike, I wonder what the outcome would have been if they used the 128:1 ratio that you came up with????!!!! What do think??? I really think it would have been in the top three!!! Granted, I'm using only 16oz per fill up now because I don't know if I'm getting a bio blend at my station or not, but this still is great news for our cause!!! I wonder what all the PS, Stanadyne, etc. users will think of this???? :mad :mad I can tell you from my own experience, that I think they will continue to use what they've always used no matter what they read!!!! It's the new diesel guys we need to educate!!!! :smart Take care!!! Great info by the way. You need to post it on Cummins Forum too!!! :thumbsup

Fog/Driving lights
Mike, what I did for improved lighting was to order Geno's Fogzilla kit. All it is, is a wiring harness to use the 2006 bulb (I believe). It's a high beam only light. The only hands on modification you do is to the little tabs on the bulb socket so that it will fit into the OEM fog lights. About 30 seconds with a utility knife and you're good to go!!! To install; remove the OEM bulb from the fog light, remove it from the socket, plug in the Geno's harness, modify the tab according to the instructions if you've not done so prior, insert bulb and reinstall into the fog light!!! I have to say, it doesn't help for light up way down the highway, but it sure does light up right in front of the truck!!!! Great for night driving around here with all the deer!!! I do wish I had some driving lights for when I go hunting out west!!

Fuel additives...
And I still wonder how after they say they read that long thread on 2 stroke oil, and some others, they can still want to use products that contain those substances!!!! The speedometer is going 100mph, but I ain't getting anywhere!!! B)

EXCESSIVE SMOKE
What do you use your truck for???? Do you tow at all??? Dude, with those sticks, IMHO you just need more air. Plain and simple. The new larger singles aren't as laggy as they were in the past. But if you're getting as much smoke as you say, twins probably would be even better. I know its a lot of $$$$$ but if you want less smoke, it's something you must consider. I think the turbo route would be less of a pain than propane also. Around my parts propane is the same price as diesel!!

Mix ratio for 2 cycle Oil
Mayfair, fill out your signature so we can see what your truck has on it!! That'll help a lot!!

loss of mpg solved / no codes
It doesn't take much of a "drag" on the brakes to knock the mileage down!!! Imagine riding your bike with just a little bit of brake pressure applied!!! Need I say more. I thing many of the "poor mileage" claims may be due to this!!! These engines put out so much power and are so well cooled that a little bit of brake pressure isn't even noticable to the cooling system!!!

EXCESSIVE SMOKE
Sounds like you need more air!!! A new/larger turbo may be in order!!!

Update! Winter Time Performance of 2 Cycle Oil - April 30, 2
I used no additives other than 2 stroke oil this past winter. I'm in northern Illinois and last winter was very cold. We had quite a few days of below zero for high temps. Granted, my truck is garage kept overnight, but I still drove it in temps less than -15*F. No problems with the fuel system at all. From Mikes research, 2 stroke oil actually help lower the gel point of ULSD, which is a good thing around my parts.

UPDATE! - July 18 2007 - Cetane What is it? What does it do?
That's the best explanation about cetane in print that I've ever read. Too many new diesel owners/former gasser owners think that cetane is like octane in the gasser world. You know, more is better!!! :o I've often thought that during the scorching hot summers that lower cetane is better because of the higher outside temps. You just confirmed that!!!! Now I can prove to my buds that I'm right!!! Great report!! 8-)

Mix ratio for 2 cycle Oil
Mike, I've just found out that one of the stations I fill up at is biodiesel. I saw a sign on the pump about a month back when I was filling up the truck. The sign said, "May contain biodiesel". I emailed the company with some questions and they did respond to my questions. In a nutshell, they said, there is no law/mandate that says they have to disclose the amount (if any) of biodiesel in the fuel that they sell on the pumps like gasoline. They also said that it will normally run between 5-11%bio depending on price and availability!!! :o They put the signs on the pumps just to inform buyers of what they are getting. I wonder if any of the other stations/companies that I buy fuel from are mixing in some bio and not informing us???Anyhow, I've lowered the amount of 2 stroke oil I'm using since I found this out. It doesn't matter where I fill up at, I've just dropped the amount to 16oz per fill up. In other words, 1/2oz per 1 gallon of fuel or an approximate 256:1 ration of 2 stroke to diesel. Since I've done this, I've had the last two tanks in a row now that have averaged 19.6 and 19.5mpg respectively!!! :D These tanks do include about 1/3 of the miles towing my work trailer around from job to job. Each tank has gotten over 600 miles on it also. Not that I was getting poor mileage at the 1oz/gallon ratio, but I'm getting slightly better now!!! Just thought I'd throw that at you!!! By the way, the fuel station that had the sign on the pump is, Thorntons. Don't know if there are any out your way?? Take care!! 8-)

Straight Piped Exhaust
Yep, that's almost exactly what I did to my '99 when I had her. Only thing different that I did was to use some 3" into 3" exhaust couplers and use a few extra clamps. I cut out both the resonator and the muffler on the '99 and she was obnoxious loud. On a hunting trip to North Dakota I could hear my truck when my buddy was driving almost 2 miles away when he was on the throttle!!!! 8-) I do miss that truck and the sound, but I have to admit I do the quiet of my 04.5 with the MBRP muffler.
