  1. Well, we managed to make it there and back!! The duck hunting was REAL slow the first 4 days, but the fifth day was very good. The ducks came in hot and heavy for about 30 minutes and then it was over!! And we had to break ice to set decoys out that AM. It was 18* that morning. Not a great trip huntingwise, but still a lot of fun with all the guys that went along. I'm glad I brought along my .17HMR to pass the time away plinking around. We also jump shot 4 "cacklers"......a small subspecies of the Canada goose. And typical for me I always wind up forgetting something on most every trip I make. This trip I forgot my camera!!! :mad Sure as dog poop, it was right where I left it when I got home.....On the dining room table!!!! LOL However, there really wasn't too much "strange" that happened at all until the ride home!!! :wow After the fine morning of duck hunting we got back, had breakfast, packed up and headed home. We were heading home by 11:00AM Friday. One of the other guys that went towed a 8x28? foot car hauler trailer down with his '03 Duramax. My truck ran great the whole trip. Ran her hard there and back to keep up with Mr Leadfoot in the Duramax. She wasn't under 75mph too much when we were on the interstates. Mileage was good considering the speed and the fact that we were always getting hit with a headwind or a quartering wind of some sort. I didn't reset my overhead, as I wanted to average them all the tanks together. We were about 200 miles from home when the Duramax went into limp mode!!! I should also mention that during the ride home, from about Springfield, MO on, the temperature was taking a nose dive and we were bucking a 25mph wind from the NNW. The highest temp on the trip home was 48* and the coldest was -13* about 15 miles from home!!!! We stopped for fuel just South of Bloomington, IL. Well, just the Duramax did. Granted this was a large trailer that was loaded down pretty good, but it only was gettting about 8mpg towing that trailer. We fuel his truck up get about 5 miles down the road and pull into a rest area because one of the guys didn't pee at the fuel stop!!! On the way out is when his truck goes into limp mode. We pull over and unhitch it and hitch up my truck to it. This trailer is heavy; and going into that head wind, was something I've never experienced with a trailer that large. We try to get his truck going and make it about 2 more miles down the interstate and pull off onto an exit and into a fuel station which is not open. I should mention that right now it's about -3* out!!!! We decide that I should run back South to get some fuel treatment. I was looking for PS Diesel 911 but the station didn't have it so I bought PS in the white bottle. I drive back, he pours in a double dose and drives around a bit to mix it. His truck is still not right. So we then unload the gear in his truck into the trailer and park his truck at the station. So from Bloomington, IL to Burlington, WI I had 5 guys, 4 dogs in my truck along with pulling that big trailer. My mileage up to this point was averaging about 17.8mpg for the trip. When I pulled into the home stop, the overhead had dropped to 16.5mpg after towing that trailer about 200 miles into a head wind in below zero temperatures!!! In order to maintain 60-65 mph, my truck was pushing 20psi of boost on average and the EGT's ranged from 900-1200*. This trailer was like towing a parachute or a wall down the road. I didn't want to try to push it any harder, as I have slipped the stock clutch before. In fact I've got a new SouthBend OFE on my counter waiting to get installed. Once we crossed into WI, we get onto I-43 which heads ENE toward Milwaukee. In this section of road with the wind more or less angling from the rear, I was able to easily maintain 65-70mph at 11-13psi of boost and EGT's dropped to about 800*.It was a fun trip. I'm going to the "bootheel" of Missouri next month and hopefully I'll remember the camera!!! LOL I'll report on this trip also!!
  2. Well said, Keydl!!!! :smart :thumbsup
  3. Let me be the first to wish y'all a Happy and safe New Year. I'm not doing much tonight. Just hanging out with friends. B) Be good everyone!!! And if you can't be good, be safe!!! > > :wow
  4. Mike that's what nice about having the exit/return line routed to the oil pan. All/99% of the oil drains down to the pan in under 5 minutes after shutting the engine down. About all I get are a few drops off the used TP when I pull it out of my MotorGuard. I usually wait about 30 minutes however to change the TP to let the oil and MotorGuard unit cool down.
  5. VERY INTERESTING........said in my best German accent!!!!!! $hit like that really makes you wonder!!!!! :smart 8|

My 04.5 has this feature. Does it automatically . Came that way. It's nice when cold. I'm not sure if all the 3rd gen's have this, but it may not be activated. You'll need to go to a dealer with the OBD III and have it enabled. It's a 5 minute program enable process via the computer to get the ECM in the truck to do it. In case the 03's don't have this feature, I have read about being able to manually set the high idle in 3rd gen's using the cruise control. That also would need to activated by the dealer or possibly programmed into the ECM by the dealer.
  7. My current truck is an 04.5!! Will it still work??
  8. You guys make me wish (almost) that I still had my '99!!!! B)
  9. Got another 6-7 inches of "partly cloudy" yesterday!!! The weather liars said we'd be on the northern side of the heaviest snow. They blew it again!!!
  10. I've got 2 trips planned in the near future. First to Texas in January, and then to the "Bootheel" of Missouri in Febuary. I try and probe some info at my fuel stops and "other" stops!!! I'll be putting on a lot of miles on the girl in the next couple months. I'll keep everyone posted on what I hear, see, and experience!!

Gale and the boys will come up with a "Clintonesque" reason why they couln't run just to save face!!! :coal
  12. Guys, it was a balmy 7* this morning when I went out pheasant hunting!!! LOL I'm only 6-7 miles South of the cheddar curtain! We've got about 8" of snow over about 1' of crusty melted snow. Made for some real fine hunting today. My bud and I each got 2 birds and my dog is happy about that, although he's wiped out now. But he'll be ready to do it again tomorrow!! :thumbsup
  13. Are y'all anywhere near all that flooding in the Pacific NW?? I know you both are in Idaho, but I was just wondering!!! :?:
  14. Well, winter is officially here in my parts now!!! Saturday afternoon into Sunday AM we got about 3 inches of snow. Then it started warming up and turned to freezing rain and then to all rain. A lot of trees down in my neighborhood and I had no power for about 8 hours. After all this, it turned cold again not getting above freezing. The grassy areas had a hard thin layer of frozen ice/snow on them. Well yesterday it started snowing again about 4-5:00PM and just stopped about 2 hours ago. I had to shovel about 8 inches of snow out of my driveway and on the sidewalks!!! I do love this time of year though!!! Gotta go out now and scrape the lower 2 feet of my roof off so that no ice dams will form!!! :cheers
  15. Thanks for "fixing" my pix Maiden and for the kind words about Spud!!!! It's easy to take good pix when you've got a great subject!! In case you didn't guess it, Spud is the good looking one in the ribbon picture!! LOL No comments about my "white" legs either. LOL It was almost 100* that day for the hunt test!! I didn't know what to do after pasting the pix here, and they didn't show; I thought maybe I "pasted" them too fast; but I guess not. Feel free to fix anything I screw up. Like I said, I'm not a "puter" guy; and I have a Mac on top of it!!! And then the kicker is, I have no real desire to learn any of this fancy 'puter crap!!! Sorry Mike, but I'm not made that way!!! All the best!!!
  16. OK Maiden, here's some dog pix. He's almost 3.5 years old now and weighs 80lbs. and is fanatical about birds!!
  17. What does everyone do with their free time??? I'm not talking any sexual exploits either!! LOL For me this time of year; when I'm not working, I'm usually out hunting somewhere. I used to be a big bow hunter. Arrowed many deer and even an elk. But now I'm mainly a bird hunter. Waterfowl/pheasant/whatever. When it starts warming up in the spring, I start taking my boat out and try to catch some fish. If I'm not hunting or fishing in my free time, I'm out training my dog. He's my hunting partner and I also run him in UKC hunt tests. He's almost to the "finished" level in the hunt test game. He's an 85lb. BLM (Black Lab Male). I'll post some pix if you all do the same!!! :thumbsup

I believe our 04.5's were built and designed for LSD and before the mandate for ULSD. The 07's and newer are the only ones "designed" for it.
  19. The threaded part of the STHB (Self Tapping Hollow Bolt) is probably 3/8"-7-16". Like I said prior, you use a sharp tapered punch to make the hole in the oil pan into which you thread the STHB. By punching the pan, you push metal into the pan for "extra" threads. If you drilled the pan to do the same, you'd have only 10-20% of the threads by punching it. The pan is not very thick metal.
  20. Here's a few pix of my MotorGuard TP oil bypass system. Sorry for the poor quality of the pix. Any questions, just post 'em and I'll do my best to answer them!!
  21. Come on Maiden; I'm still eating leftovers from Thanksgiving!!! I've got a big pot of "Turkey Bone Soup" that I've been eating for supper the last 2 days now. It's still way too early to think about Christmas stuff. But you're a female amongst males here,so you're playing the "agitator" on this topic!!!! ;) Got something in mind do you????? B) B) :D
  22. Keydl, I'd consider going up a size if the tire wouldn't get wider. Seems like 99% of all the 17" tires available get wider as you go taller. I'd like to see a LT265/75 17E, LT265/80 17E, or a LT255/80 17E. My experience has been that in most conditions a NARROWER tire is much more desirable than a wider one........both for traction and stress on suspension parts!!! But it sure seems you can't get tall and narrow in 17's!!!

Also don't forget to check all the fluglebinders, hooziebuggers, thingamagiggers, muffler bearings, top off the blinker fluid, regap the sparkplugs, and most important is to change the air in your tires from summer air to winter air. :cheers
