My 04.5 is rated from the factory at 325hp and 600ft.lbs. I don't remember what year (05 or 06) they upped the torque to 610ft.lbs. Remember, these ratings are at the flywheel, not the rear wheels. Stock 3rd gens dyno about 280-290hp and 500-525ft.lbs. :smart
  3. I'm not doubting your findings at all......just trying to make for some good discussions!!!! :smart
  4. Funny thing is that I can get better mileage without using the cruise control going over the same sections of road. I can see what's ahead and adjust/accommodate accordingly. I can get into the throttle earlier, but easier, than the cruise......and I can let off sooner than the cruise. I've done the experiments when I lived in an area that I had more open highway driving. Try doing this experiment without the cruise and see if your results are the same. :thumbsup
  5. There is only one way that I can see getting better mileage by traveling faster. That's if you are driving in a area with rolling hills, say like I-80 across Iowa. I agree with you're little gauge Mike but only to a point. Traveling over fairly level ground at a slower speed will ALWAYS net you better mileage. Driving through rolling hills at a slower speed means you aren't carrying as much momentum going up the hills, so you actually have to give the truck more GO pedal to maintain speed. More so than if you were traveling slightly faster. You would probably be pulling less boost going up the hills at the faster speed than you would at the lower speed. Does that make sense????
  6. Mike, I filled up Monday night at $3.99/gal. Tuesday at 9:30AM I had an appointment with my tax accountant. I owe, I owe, and off to work I go!!!!! Anyhow, I kept the same accountant although I moved 60 miles further North. I left Tuesday AM at 6:30AM just to make sure I didn't get caught in construction traffic on the ride down. The ride down was pretty quick. I kept the speedo at 55-65mph and when I got to my folks house; to drop my dog off for a couple hours, my overhead was reading 235mpg!!!! An hour and the folks house and then off to the accountant via a new tollway. Very little traffic and about 25 miles to my accountant. I arrive at the accountant and the overhead is reading 23.7mpg. I leave the accountant and the ride back to the p's house is all into the wind and the overhead drops to 22.8mpg running 60mph. Spend a couple hours at the p's house before heading back North into the wind. 60 mile drive North at about 60mph the overhead drops to 21.6mpg. The rest of the week has been trailer towing and as of right now, I've got 328 miles on this tank. The overhead is reading an even 20.0mpg and the fuel gauge is between 1/2 and 5/8 tank right now. I've no doubt that if I could do a whole tank at 55-60mph, I'd get 21-23mpg depending on the wind!!!
  7. APRIL FOOLS!!!!! LOL B) Gotcha to read the thread though!!!!! :D
  8. I may look into a bike again. I used to have one. Quit riding about 15 years ago. Makes more sense now.....more than ever.
  9. If you've used up the 2 ports on top of the OEM oil filter mount, you can get a "sandwich" adapter which you would mount on the OEM oil mount stub. You then screw an oil filter onto the sandwich adapter. The sandwich adapter should limit the volume of oil to the bypass. If not, use an inline restrictor oriface like mentioned above!! You can route the return line like I did with the STHB ( self tapping hollow bolt ) to the oil pan. Not hard to do at all. Take a sharp punch and pierce the oil pan and drive it in until a 5/16 bolt will fit into the hole. Then thread the STHB into the hole you've made. The STHB comes with a rubber washer to seal it up. I also used some RTV on it also!!! Mines been leak free for almost 2 years now!!
  10. No testing around my parts!!! Which is the county just North of the county that Shitcago, IL is in!!!! I still have my kitty though!!! :thumbsup
  11. Don't know what the actual "number" would be; but by my way of thinking if you make the ratio less lean on 2 stroke ( meaning more 2 stroke per volume or diesel ) the numbers would have to get better!!! But I'm just a simpleton and what do I know!!!! :smart
  12. Hey Maiden; it's hard to tell because of the shadow in the 2nd pic, but are we seeing a bad case of "plumbers butt"????? If so, you'd better censor this thread from the young'ns!!! LOL LOL B) B) :thumbsup
  13. Mike, I've been running 16oz per fill up for a while now. That's about 1/2oz per gallon. I've always got some bio in my tank at least when I'm around home. On the trips that I make, I don't change dosage because that would just toss in another variable into the equation when it comes to 2 stroke. I probably had no bio remnants in the tank on the way home from Missouri because I ran the tank going down there well past DTE on the overhead!!! I was running on fumes and my butt was puckering up hoping I wouldn't run out of fuel!!! LOL What I have found out is that if I use the 1oz per gallon dose, my fuel pressure gauge is pegged (30+psi) in cold weather. If I run the 1/2oz dose, it's only 30+psi in the coldest of weather. We've seen -18* here a couple times this winter. I the summer time, I've got no problems at all running the full 1oz dosage, even with bio in the tank. I truly wonder how some of these 3rd gen guys drive there trucks with the problems they say are caused by 2 stroke!!!! We may never know!!!! Take care!! :thumbsup
  14. Got back late Sunday night from a snow goose hunting trip to the "Boot Heel" of Missouri. No pictures, as the hunting was slow on Saturday. Sunday we had many birds work, but not finish enough for us to get good shots. If you've never been to the boot heel area, it's "PanCake" land. It really reminds me of Southern Florida.....delta type country. Even I think it's flat being from Illinois!!!! LOL For 2 days, we shot only 6 birds!! ` Well, there's next year!!Thought y'all might like to here how the truck ran though. I left my house Friday night at 8:00PM and drove through the night down to Sikeston, MO. It's a 450 drive from my house. I had about 125 miles of all suburban, very cold weather, trailer towing miles on this tank of fuel when I left. Made it there to the truck stop just as the DTE overhead read 0!!! STill, that tank of fuel averaged 17.2mpg. I kept the truck running at about 2k rpm's which is about 68mph on my truck. On the way home, I had about 125 miles on the tank of fuel again, as it was a bit a drive both days to where we were hunting. Sunday was really windy. Steady 25mph winds with gusts to 40mph out of the SW. Good day to be traveling NE like I was!!! LOL Starting the trip home, I ran 70mph. My boost gauge was reading about 4psi!!! 8| Normallly with winter fuel and no wind it's around 7psi. The first half of the trip was easy travelling. But as I got further North into Illinois, the wind started to come from a more westerly direction. By the time I got home I was getting hit be a WNW wind at about 20-25mph. That said, the girl (my truck) ran great with great mileage. The overhead read as high as 21 mpg average coming home before it started to drop due to the wind changing around on me. However, I just filled up today and figure mileage for the leg back. The girl got me 19.6mpg on winter fuel running 65-70mph with the Juice turned to 4-2!! Another thing........I'm really loving my new SouthBend clutch. It's been in for about 1700 miles now. The more I drive it the better I like it!!! Its noisier at idle than the stocker by a lot. But this bad boy holds. Makes me think my OEM clutch was slipping ever since I took it in for a rear main seal leak 2 weeks after I bought the truck. The place that did the install said the clutch had oil spray on it and was surprised that it would hold the power I would throw at it at times. I do drive like a Granny though most of the time, so maybe that helped. It also makes me wonder that the OEM clutch wasn't oil contaminated when I had the rear main seal replaced under warranty. Daimler bastards!!! :mad This SB clutch makes the truck so much different, it's hard to explain!! It may also explain my low dyno numbers from last May. No difference form level 2 to level 5 on the Edge Juice even though the level 5 run seems gobs better..........slippage maybe???? Cheers everyone!!!
  15. Here's some pix I took this morning.
  16. Man, we really got dumped on today. Got done shoveling about 14-16" of snow out of my drive late this afternoon. That's on top of the snow we already had on the ground. The snow in my yard now is over the tops of my rubber knee boots!!! :wow My 85lb. Lab is dragging his belly through the snow in my yard!!! Bet his winkie is cold!!! LOL I'll try to post some pix tomorrow!!!

Wheel chock the front tires and jack up the rear of the truck. Both sides. Remove both tires. Remove both brake drums. You may need a BFH for this to bust it loose. Only work on one side at a time until you are finished with that side!!!! Very important!!! That way if you don't remember how it goes back together, you have a reference to look at by just walking around to the other side of the truck!! Make sure the parking brake cable works while you are down there also.
  18. Heck, he's been hanging out on the porn sites!!! > >
  19. Hey MNRAM, granted to doesn't get quite as cold here as where you're at, but we've seen -17* here a few times this winter!! Funny thing is we get the snow, it melts, gets real cold, warms up to snow again, melts etc. etc. The weird thing is when the snow melts is really warm out. I'm talking 50ish!!! Last week Tuesday when I picked my truck up after the clutch install; Was 48* at 5:00PM when I picked my truck up. At 9:00PM it was 9*!!!! 8| Mike, snow around here brings out the "idiot pack". People that can't drive in snow to save their lives. Multiply that by whatwever when there is snowfall more than 2"!!!!
  20. I wouldn't think it would be. You're not in a 'cold" climate, so the oil shouldn't have been too thick. Commyfornia right?? What was the temps when you tried starting it. Fords are known to be cold blooded; and with the HEIU system that will not fire the injectors until you have oil pressure makes it harder to start when cold. Did you cycle the glow plugs??You had to ADD 3 QUARTS of oil???? Isn't the sump capacity like 17qts. on them motors??? That's a lot of oil to add IMHO. Does this engine use oil??? Fuel filters OK??? Lift pump working??? Oil pump pumping oil so that it CAN start??? Can you give us more info??
  21. Got hit with another good snow yesterday and into this AM. Got about 12" here!! At least it wasn't the wet heavy snow. It shoveled pretty easy!!
  22. Too cold to work today!!! Twas -6 when I got up with 30mph winds!!! :wow :wow My testicles still haven't descended yet from getting some wood to burn from my shed this AM!!! So I'm being "domestic" today. Cleaning up, organizing etc.!! I went to the store to get some things also. But I drove the truck the real long way there just to get used to this new clutch and to "break it in" some. Honestly, the more I drive it the better I like it!!!! B) I'm real happy!!!! :thumbsup
  23. I got her back today!!! B) I wasn't able to take any pictures of the install for 2 reasons. They cannot (due to insurance BS) have anyone other than mechanics in the shop area and because I had to work. I borrowed a truck on Monday and today one of my farrier buds picked me up at the my house as we were working at the same barn today!! Sorry for not getting some pix; but I've got a few stories to tell. One about what they found in the tranny. And another about them getting the run around from Dodge/Chrysler for a part!!!So I drop her off at a shop recommended to me by my friend from my retriever club at 8:00AM on Monday. My friend fabs up parts for the race cars the guys build at the shop. He says they'll try to get it done by 4:00PM, but he says to call about 2:00PM to find out how it's going. I do that. They said everything came apart just fine. The flywheel is not back from where ever they send it out to get it ground. They said it would be done tomorrow. I also had them check the rear main seal as she was dripping oil. Well she needed a new seal!!! Napa couldn't get it so they called Dodge. Dodge dealer says no problem, we'll have it to you tomorrow 9:00AM. So tomorrow comes. Well the Dodge part guy doesn't show up until 11:00 and guess what........no seal with him. Well, the shop owner, hit the fan I guess(I wasn't there). Evidently he told them to get one here today or he's making some phone calls!!!! Can't argue with that!!! Anyhow, they get one from a different Dodge dealership and it gets there about 1:00PM just about the time I call today for a status report. Shop owner tells me that the seal just arrived and that they're gonna get her all back together for me today. He says call back at 5:00PM if you don't hear from him. I do that. He says that the trucks running and to come and get her. I call another friend to take me there and pay for the work and drive home. When they tore into the clutch, they found the pilot bearing was all but gone. They said part of it was laying in the bell housing!!! 8| I asked how the input shaft was. He said, "You are one lucky man!!!!" He said on the NV5600's that he's never seen one like this with no internal damage!!! They just emery papered the input shaft and it was good to go. He said usually when the pilot bearings go they take the input shaft and 6th gear with it!! Funny thing was, my truck still shifted really well. No problems at all with it. He said the stocker clutch was oil soaked from the rear seal slinging oil. Probably why she was slipping when I stuck my foot into her!! :thumbsup But according to him the clutch was not in bad shape. It had some wear. The flywheel had some "hot spot" on it also, but he said nothing the grinder couldn't fix. This is the 2nd rear main seal replaced on this truck!! The first time it was replaced about 2 weeks after I got the truck!!! The rubber on the he took out today was very "hard"!! That can't be good!! Any ideas???The pedal pressure is about the same as the stocker. The feel is a bit vague though. Not bad, just different. Hopefully the feel will get better with use. You truly know when it's engauged though. There is some clutch rattle in neutral and the clutch engauged. I never heard it though until I pulled into my garage when I got home. The noise went away when I depressed the clutch. There is also some noise if you get below the torque band and give more "go pedal". Nothing loud at all, but you can hear it. Just driving around the bit I did tonight, it felt like she had a better "hook up" that before. It's kinda hard to explain. A bit less go pedal for the same acceleration. That's strickly by the "SOP" meter though. My Edge Juice w/Attitude has a tranny slip display, but after driving with the new SB Con OFE, I think it's BS. The truck just feels "more alive". Does that make sense??? Could the stocker have been mildly sliiping even without my foot in it?? I suppose with oil on the clutch that's possible.JFYI, I got the SouthBend Con OFE. It's rated to hold 450hp and 1000ft.lbs. That's more than I plan on doing!! This is also the clutch Peter at SB recommends for the guys that tow most of the time. I think I fall into that catagory. Any questions, fire away. :thumbsup B)
  24. Thanks for the reminder/kick in the dupa!!!! I'll take my camera along. I hope they allow me in the shop for some pix!!!! :confused Check in tomorrow!!!! :thumbsup
  25. Kinda quiet around here!! I was gonna save this post until after the install, but what the heck!!! Taking the girl(my truck) in to have the SB Con OFE installed tomorrow. Can't wait to see how much difference there is between it and the stocker. I've slipped the stocker a few times, so I've been judicious on how I lay into the throttle the last 3-4 months. This one is supposed to be good to hold 450hp and 1000ft.lbs.!!!! B) :thumbsup That's more than I plan on modding, plus the fact that this clutch is made especially for those that tow a lot. I think I fall into that catagory!!!! LOL Hopefully there are no complications with the install and I'll be able to give a report tomorrow!!! Later!! :thumbsup
