  1. And 'puters are supposed to make our lives "EASIER"?????? IMHO, not when the "end user/consumer" doesn't know how to diagnose anything!!!!! That includes me!!!!!
  2. That's one hell of a diesel to turn 18,000rpm's!!!!! :smart :D One time poster????
  3. Do you have enough LP and VP44 to handle both the comp box and injectors??? :smart
  4. Are any members here "self-employed" like I am????? I'm a farrier, and love it most of the time, but this is my busy time of year, and at times I get frazzled because people/customers start calling me like I'm 8 different people. Some of the work is genuine, but some of it is due to shear stupidity/ignorance. I'm considering charging a stupidity fee......for the work that I have to do because someone/horse owner/trainer was stupid. I take pride in my work, but sometime my customers won't let me do the best work I can because of their horse management/stupidity!!!!! Rant off!!!! :smart :smart
  5. The last thing you want to be in or around is a tornado. I've been through one...........Lemont, IL 1994. I also was about one mile from the famous tornado that hit Plainfield/Cresthill, IL in, I think, 1990. That tornado gets talked about on the "Weather Channel" every now and then.
  6. Dirty fuel...ie. Not enough filtration.
  7. What the heck was he thinking/doing?????? Was there a "chick" with him to distract him????? If he were my son, he wouldn't be driving MY truck for a while!! B)
  8. Take some pictures, and then make sure you post them!!! :thumbsup
  9. And as usual, I haven't a clue as to what you guys are saying when you get into the "technospeak"!!!!!! It truly is a different language!!!! One that I hope never to learn!!! :wow
  10. Mike, I'm pretty sure that "rack and pinion" are only on 2wd's and/or 1500 Rams. Don't quote me on that though. I've got almost the same front end as you, only the geometry is a bit different...........and Danas vs. AAM axles. Remember, I used to have a '99!!! :thumbsup
  11. Is this your first diesel???? If so, what you're hearing is the turbo pumping fresh air into your engine. If not, you need to be more specific. :smart
  12. I use a Mac with FireFox as the browser.
  13. ISX, I just recently put up a new antenna and bought a brand new TV. My old TV wasn't digital compatable, and it was on its last legs anyhow. After doing the research on digital; I ordered an antenna and all the parts. Took darn near a whole day to set it up and install everything. However, digital is the real deal as far a picture goes. It's even better than cable and satellite because the signals aren't compressed. I don't watch a lot of TV, so I ain't gonna pay for cable or satellite!!!!! Many stations in my parts now broadcast several signals with different programs on them. So I've got more channels now than I ever had!!! JFYI, if you want to go with an antenna, there is no such thing as a "Digital Antenna". The old antenna that your Mom and Dad used will pick up digital just fine as long as it's still connected!!! :smart
  14. What a great day!!! Get home after a good day of work and what do I find????...........A "Three Stooges" marathon on the boob tube!!!!!! Started at 10:00AM and goes until 10:00PM. Gonna cook supper during the commercials!!! Don't get too much better than a good day of work, cold beer when you get home and a Stooges marathon!!!! And to think, I thought it was gonna be a crappy day when I rolled out of bed!!!!! LOL LOL :thumbsup
  15. I did an experiment with my last tank of fuel. About 2/3rd's of this tank was towing; but while driving, I would wind her up to 22-2400rpm's before shifting. I have to admit, it's a lot more "fun" to drive that way, but I got quite a bit poorer mileage. I averaged 17.1mpg to be exact........556.2miles on the tank, and 32.3xxgal to fill her up!!!! 8| Smarty on SW5 default settings. Still not bad considering where I live!!!! That tank also included 2 WOT 60mph to rev limit runs to blow the carbon/soot out of her and because I had a female jerkwad riding my *** in a Ford Focus. Couldn't see her headlights in my rear view mirror........so I gave her a light good soot job!!!!! Here's the best part..............after I slowed, she rode up on my *** again!!!!!! This time, I slowed a bit and then just stomped the throttle.......I didn't ease into like the first time. Talk about blotting out the highway and her in a BBCOS!!!!! LOL I slowed again after that one to see if she'd ride my *** again......she didn't!! B) B) I usually find that it's women that are the worst tailgaters!!!!!?????
  16. I drove a '99 Dakota with a custom work box on it carrying about 2000lbs. worth of farrier stuff. Twas my last work truck before I went to a trailer. Anyhow, this Dakota had the 5.2L or the 318CID engine.........IMHO, one of the best engines MOPAR ever made!!! The only downside to this was that the best mileage I could get was about 13.5mpg no matter how I drove it!!!! :wow Before the Dakota, I had the same workbox on an S-10 with the 4.3L..........that little truck would religiously get 18-19mpg driving the same routes and distances as the Dakota.........only difference being that it took a bit longer to get to speed and it just ate brake pads and shoes.........18-20,000 miles and I'd need a brake job.So for me, the Dodge Ram 2500 with the Cummins is the best of both worlds. I don't monopolize a truck with a custom box etc. and it gets as good or better mileage than the small trucks loaded up!!! :smart
  17. I'd much rather see someone "running around with their head cut off" not knowing what to do......rather than someone with their head cut off pretending like they know what they're doing........aka (our elected representatives)!!!!! Enough said!!! :mad :moon
  18. This time of year, and all through the summer, I regularly see 600+ miles per tank and mileage in the 18-20mpg range. That does include towing my 5000lb. work trailer around also!! :thumbsup
  19. You can get a "Fumoto Valve" also. You'll never have to take the plug out again. The valve requires 2 distinct movements to open it, so it's almost impossible for it to open accidentially. They magnet on the filter will only work for ferrous particles......aka "iron containing" particles. Personally, I wouldn't waste my $$$ on one. Get a MotorGuard or a Frantz TP bypass instead. Almost 62,000 miles without an oil change now!!!
  20. True, I do have the BD steering box brace on my 04.5. Don't know if they make one for the 2nd gens though. One other thing to check.......there is a procedure to check/tighten up the gear lash in the steering box itself on the 2nd gens.
  21. If you drive your truck enough and far enough to get her up to operating temperature; water in your oil shouldn't be a major problem.
  22. Not to deliberately change the subject, but check out my oil analysis in the 3rd generation section under the title of "Perpetual Sump". You may be surprised!!! B)
  23. Like I said in a prior post, my truck just rolled over 100,000 miles. Within 20-30 miles of that, I pulled an oil sample and sent it out to Blackstone Labs for analysis. For y'all that don't know, I run a MotorGuard TP bypass filter on my truck. I did a bunch of research prior to buying and installing this unit. According to Mr. Ralph Wood (aka Mr. MotorGuard) oil doesn't wear out, it only gets dirty. If you can keep the oil clean, you can run it almost indefinitely. Anyhow, modifying his theory slightly for a "modified" diesel truck, I change out my TP at 1500-2000 mile intervals depending on how the truck was driven, and then add 1 quart of "make up oil". I change the full flow filter at 1 year intervals. Anyhow, I've not "changed" my oil in just over 60,000 miles now. I added the bypass filter to my truck when my truck had 40,000 miles on here. On July 4 of this year it will be 3 years since installing the bypass. Anyhow, Blackstone said that I'm good to go. TBN is somewhat low, but I use WallyWorld SuperTech 15W40 dino oil. My next TP change out I will probably change the full flow filter also. That'll add another couple quarts to the change out, and should more than up the TBN in the sump. The TBN on virgin SuperTech isn't all that high to start, so I'm not worried there. Iron is higher than folks would normally like to see, but I've got over 60,000 miles without a change, and they're not concerned.Aluminum..................4Chromium.................2Iron........................46Copper....................7Lead.......................3Tin........................3Moly.......................2Nickel....................1Manganese...............1Silver.....................2Potassium..............3Boron....................1Silicon...................5Sodium..................2Calcium..............2432Magnesium...........264Phosphorus...........1195Zinc...................1392Barium..................0TBN...................5.3Fuel...................TR--------I got a happy foot on the ride home before taking the sample!!
  24. I just started into my list of things I'm gonna do to the girl now that she's past the "magic" 100,000 mile mark. Just yesterday, I changed out the front and rear diff fluid, the transfer case fluid, and the manual tranny fluid. I used Amsoil lubricants in all of them.......Chuck will be so happy!!!I'm also going to change the surpantine belt, and keep the old one as a spare. Gonna replace the brake pads front and rear and bleed the system with fresh brake fluid. I'm gonna pump out as much fluid as I can from the power steering pump reservoir and replace with fresh stuff. I'm gonna drain and refill the cooling system with fresh stuff. Don't know if I want to pull the valve cover and check the valves.......she's running real good and getting good mileage. What do y'all think?? Anything else y'all can think I may want to check/replace etc.???? Thanks..Joe
  25. Well, she finally rolled over.............100,000 miles that is!!!! ` I'm truly officially my own warranty now!!! :smart One saving grace about turning it is that my last 2 tanks of fuel have netted me over 600 miles/tank. It's warming up around here, so the mileage will go up. My Smarty is helping big time!!! The worst tank I got over the winter months still got me just under 17mpg!!! As I type this, I've got 100,204 mile on my 04.5!! :thumbsup
