  1. 30psi is not a problem for the CP3. It takes what it needs, and sends the rest back to the tank. You've got the AirDog, so I assume you've canned the OEM fuel filter canister. The plastic cover will be fine on that up to about 60psi though. I see 24-28psi with my GDP Walbro LP.
  2. I'd say, "Go For It"!! :thumbsup
  3. I use Scott 1000 TP. It's the John Wayne type TP.........rough and tough and don't take no crap off an injun!!!!! LOL The last time I calculated price per filter for my MotorGuard TP bypass, it was about .80 cents a roll/filter!! :thumbsup
  4. If you're handy, you can buy a good liquid filled gauge, get the appropriate tap, fittings and seal; and then tap the "hole" in the middle of the plastic nut on the fuel filter housing cover. Works like a charm. Don't use a NPT tapered tap, because you could crack the lid. You'll also need to drill a small hole or two in the bottom of the hole to get liquid fuel to the gauge. Here's a picture of something close. This is the gauge I had, but it was mounted in the machined aluminum block that took the place of the OEM lift that I got with my GDP Walbro lift pump kit. When I went to an "in cab" gauge, I gave this gauge to a friend and told him how to do what I just told you. He's been running it that way now for 1.5 years with no problems!!! I'll try to find the link for instructions on how to do this also!!!
  5. When the 04.5's first came out, there were a bunch of threads on the forums, on what can best be called as a "gasser pre-ignition" type sound under light throttle at 1600-1800rpm. It seems to turn on and off depending on throttle position. Are you adding any cetane boosters???? Mine went mostly away after I put my GDP Walbro lift pump system and did the "tone ring mod". It's totally gone since I've been running the Smarty Revo. This leads me to believe it's timing, fuel related.Like Mike asked, what's you're idle fuel pressure. Doesn't really matter if it's pre-filter or pre-CP3 just so we get an idea. Right now with my Walbro, I'm seeing about 26psi pre-filters. With cold fuel, it's 30psi+. These Walbro pumps are incredible. The more stress you put on them, the better they like it!!
  6. Now you know why I prefaced my last post!!!!! LOL LOL He is a chick magnet......that is for sure.........my dog!!!!!! Once the females (human) find out that he and I hunt though.........that's the end of it right there!!!!! I need to move to Idaho or something!!!! LOL B) I've been grouse hunting with him in Northern Wisconsin. We got on a few birds, but I/we never shot one. We're gonna try that again this coming season!!! If you want, I can post some more pix!!!!!! :thumbsup :thumbsup
  7. OK, y'all leave me no choice in this matter!!!! Here are some more pictures of my boy. He's the good looking one.....when you see a human in the pictures!!!! LOL LOL
  8. I'm disappointed!!!!! :confused :confused I thought for sure we'd get a bunch of dog pix with this thread!!!!!!! Come on everyone.......post 'em up!!!!!! I don't want to have to turn this into the "Dorkweeds Lab Pictures" thread unless y'all leave me no choice!!!! LOL
  9. I've got Amsoil in all my "under truck" voids. You know, diffs, tranny, and transfer case. Amsoil has worked well for me there. What irritates me the most about Amsoil; is the internet salesmen on the forums. They're worse than "fuller brush", "amway", "unicef", salesmen etc.!!!!!!!! No disrespect intended!!!I've got almost 60,000 miles on my truck without "an oil change"!!!!! I use "Ralph Woods" theory, that "Oil doesn't wear out, it only get contaminated"!!!! That's the theory behind his "pertetual sump"!!!!!! If you change you filters and add make up oil, you'll never have to "change out" your oil!! I've beem doing that now for almost 60,000 miles!!!!!!! Granted, I do change out my TP at 1500-2000 mile intervals; but I've yet to "change" my oil in almost 3 years!!! My oil analysis come back analytically clean also!!
  10. I'm glad I left mine on. Last weekend, 8 inches of snow and low 20's for highs. Got up to almost 50 on Thursday, but we had torrential rains on top of the snow melt!!!! Then this weekend, highs in the upper teens with nasty northerly winds. Had a dog event this weekend, and driving home today, about 100 miles, running about 65-70mph, with the winter front on......my EGT's were running 475-525 over level ground!!!! :smart
  11. WOW!!!!, I thought for sure there'd be more doggy pix after I started this thread!!! Mike, I'm gonna take a picture of my boy sitting in the drivers seat of my truck and post it. I love that picture of you're dog on the drivers floor; but my boy would never stoop that low.........he's got to be in the drivers seat!!!! Now if I could only teach him to drive!!!! LOL LOL :thumbsup :smart
  12. Thanks Mike!!!! Those two pix have ben submitted to the HRC (Hunting Retriever Clubs) for consideration for the bi-monthly magazine cover!!!! That'd be cool......to have your dog on a magazine cover!!! :thumbsup B)
  13. Just a couple of pix of my dog taken at my retriever clubs upland training day on two separate occasions!! Two different club members took the pix. Both have been submitted to the parent organization of the club I belong to for consideration for the organizations journal cover!!!! The one of him flushing the pheasant is pretty self explanatory.........he's flushing the bird!!! The other picture is him waiting to be sent on a retrieve. He had already flushed the bird, he sat, the bird was shot, he marked the birds fall (him staring like he is)......now he's just waiting for me to send him to retrieve the bird!!! Pretty intense wouldn't y'all say!! I'm sorry if these are large......don't know how to downsize them........help Mike!!!
  14. Anyone ever smell "moth balls"???
  15. I hope it's good for a Million miles, because then I'd never have to buy another vehicle until they spread my ashes somewhere!!!! LOL What I didn't mention in the original post was that it's been fairly warm here the last week......or at least since I filled the last time!! Normally it's in the 20-30's for highs........but it's been 40-60's here the last 4-5 days. All of our snow is gone and it's a sloppy mess out in the yard now. In fact, it's raining here now, and my sump pump is working overtime down in my crawl space!!!! Anyhow, my truck is running real well right now. I'm using 2 stroke at 1/2oz per 1gal of diesel. Even when we had the -20's, I didn't add anything to my fuel except 2 stroke oil!!!! When it gets really cold, my Walbro lift pump still pumps fuel, although the pressure goes up. Normally my Walbro runs at about 25-26psi.........when it get really cold, my gauge will be pegged at the bottom which it 30psi. Thicker fuel and trying to push that thicker fuel through 2 fuel filters!!!Anyhow, with this warm spell, I've really noticed that my truck is decidedly very warm blooded. Once it gets below 10 degrees, I can feel it in the truck. And my truck is garage kept too!!! I know, I'm anal........but so be it!!! LOL
  16. Let me preface by saying that I didn't use the whole tank of fuel before figuring the mileage I got for this tank. That said, I filled up with 388.5 miles on the tank and the fuel gauge had just hit straight up/half tank!!! For me if I can get 300 miles before the gauge reads straight up/half tank, I'm in the 19mpg range. However, this tank of fuel seemed to be really, really good. No work trailer towing on this one either. All suburban/short country driving jaunts where the speeds averaged 35-55mph. The hand calculated MPG for this tank of fuel was 21.6mpg and I really overfilled the tank too, so true mileage may have been a touch better than that. Filled her right to the top of the neck!! I'm really pleased with that!!!The only thing different is that I took the Edge Juice w/Attitude totally off my truck. I'd been driving it around set to stock and using the attitude monitor as some extra gauges, but I want to see if I can sell it since I'm not really using it since I got the Smarty. In essence all that does is get rid of the "piggy backed" connections at the injectors and MAP sensor......so I dunno?? So could that be it???? I don't care though......maybe my truck is finally getting "broke in" with 97,000 miles on it now!!!! LOL
  17. Have you owned this truck since new????? Is it the original clutch/tranny?? You are correct, the NV5600 is a beast and weighs about 450lbs. It is a truck tranny and is not made to shift fast or speed shift. You need to shift almost like you're driving a big rig.......slow and deliberate to let the synchros do there job. However, these trannys are known to be somewhat tempermental. Could be your hydraulics going out also.
  18. I really like the Cooper Discoverer ATR's in the stock size that I bought over this past summer. They're quite good in the snow. Much better than the Michelins. I've put about 17,000 miles on them and it doesn't look like they're wearing at all. I got 81,000 miles off the stock Michelins.......could've gone longer, but I had a flat on one of the tires and I didn't want to patch a 4 year old tire with that many miles. When I had my '99, I got 125,000 miles off of the stock Michelins!!!
  19. This past Thursday PM-Friday AM it got down to -22*F here in "The Peoples Republic of Obama"!!! It was a "dry" cold though, so it didn't feel so bad except for the 25mph winds!!! 8| Wind chills were down to almost -50*F!!! I can't help but think how cold it would've been if it hadn't been for "global warming"!!!! LOL LOL YEAH RIGHT!!!! :smart :smart
  20. GDP http://www.glacierdieselpower.com sells some real nice lift pump systems also. And Richard is a super guy to deal with!!!
  21. To reliably see 20mpg highway, you need to drive about 65mph or less, keep boost under 5psi, and EGT's under about 600*. That's with stock sized tires. With your 98.5, the first thing I would do would be to get a set of gauges......EGT, boost, fuel pressure, and tranny temp for your auto. Then, I'd look into an aftermarket lift pump that will reliably keep your VP44 in fuel!!! The cheapo way for an intake is to "gut" the intake tube of the baffles on the inside and then to "swiss cheese" the bottom of the airbox. Don't cost anything except time and you'll get much better air flow. On my '99 I cut out the resonator and the muffler and ran a straight pipe. It's real loud!! Once you get all this done, then I'd consider a tuner or something. Gauges first though, so you have a "baseline" to start from with the rest of your mods!!
  22. I'm glad you found your way over here Texas Diesel!!!! Welcome aboard!!!! Seems you've got more experience than Mike and I on the 2 stroke oil thing. Hope you don't mind if we pick your brain a bit and try to learn some more!!! :smart Cheers!! :thumbsup
  23. I put my 2 stroke oil in old "Marvel Mystery Oil" containers. They have the built in funnel spout, so it's real handy to dump in the tank. They're just a pain to fill with the 2 stroke oil!!! :mad A few years ago, Evinrude (OMC Corp.) developed a whole new line of 2 cycle outboard motors. Can't remember what they called it though. Emissions etc. were reduced to almost 4 stroke levels!!! However, many states had already outlawed 2 cycle motors on lakes, rivers etc. so there was no chance in getting that reversed. So I've not heard much recently. Heck, most outboards you see now arre 4stroke!! That said, I love my Evinrude 50hp. It's started down to 5 degrees!!! It's sad that people that don't know anything about most things are in charge of everything!!! :smart
  24. 2002, that was before the USA went to ULSD too!!!! :smart
  25. I filled up for $2.49/gal yesterday afternoon.
