The Official "Joke of the Day" Thread
A blonde went to the mechanic to pick up her car. When she got there, she asked the mechanic "What's the story?"Mechanic says, "Just crap in the carburator."Blonde says "OK, how often do I need to do that?"

New Batteries
Agreed!!! I believe the OEM's on my 04.5 were rated at 750CCA. The new ones from WallyWorld are rated at 850CCA.

A Dirty Word... Oil
WallyWorld oil is made by 3 different companies. Usually based on where in the country the store is at. The companies are........1. Warren Distributors 2. Exxon/Mobile 3. Shell/Penzoil/Quaker State. The synthetic and synthetic blends are made entirely by Warren. I looked at the bottom of the blue bottles of my 2 stroke oil and 15W 40 engine oil and there was a WPP on the bottom which means that Warren is making the oils that I get from WallyWorld.

A Dirty Word... Oil
Yes, both the MotorGuard and the Frantz TP filters are "depth" filters. Which means in the case of the TP that the oil flow parallel to the wraps of paper rather than across a media. However,in the TP filter, the TP in compressed slightly in the housing which makes for a very efficient and cost effective filter. IMHO, they filter better than any Amsoil or FS filter around for a fraction of the cost per filter. Granted, you do change them more often, but they're still way cheaper.

Looking for reliability, longevity
Sorry I missed this thread earlier!!!!! I had a '99, so it's essentially the same as your truck, except I had the 5 speed. I had a 3" straight pipe on her..........crazy loud!!!!!:shades: If I were to do it again, I'd "Swiss Cheese" the bottom of the OEM air box and continue using the OEM filter. I'd also pull the crap out of the OEM intake tube. These mods are good to about 400hp............the intake and exhaust will flow more than enough for you. I'd also stay with a "street type" tire if you're looking for mileage. I currently run Cooper Discoverer ATR's on my 04.5 and they are a pretty good compromise between an AT tire and a HT tire.

A Dirty Word... Oil
If you mean the cylindrical cardboard at the center of the TP; Yes, you do leave it when installing the TP into the unit.

2006 5.9 blow by
That oil could be coming from a few other places.............leaking pan gasket, front cover area, rear seal etc. If your truck is running good and getting decent mileage, it's probably not blow by. By the way, I extended my breather tube about 5-6 inches with a brass double ended hose nipple and piece of hose just to keep any drips off the bottom of the truck.

New Batteries
$75.00 a piece with no disposal fee for the old batteries and with free installation!!!! $162.00 out the door!!!:thanks:Normally I'd buy them and install them myself, but I was at my parents, it was cold out, snowing and I had no place out of the weather to do it!!! I did check out a few other places, but the best I could do was about $95.00 a piece not counting disposal and installation!!!!:eek: My truck takes group size 65..........I believe the 2nd gens take a different group size IIRC.

A Dirty Word... Oil
I ordered my MotorGuard bypass from Ralph Wood directly. I've not seen him post on www.bobistheoilguy.com in well over a year now. He was ill for a while and now I've heard that MotorGuard wanted him to stop modifying their filters for bypass oil filters. They're originally designed to remove water from compressors. If you want a good solid TP bypass now, I'd go with a Frantz now. It's exactly the same thing; only the TP canister is different. Does that help???

EGT Question
It's drilled and tapped between cylinder 2 and 3 in the manifold.

EGT Question
Can the EGT on the CR engines be "too low". I'm not talking idle EGT either. I'm talking highway cruising EGT. Both going to and coming home from my folks for Christmas, my trucks were running 500-525* over level ground at 65mph. 60 mile trip one way and all highway. The EGT's seemed to be normal while rowing thru the gears though, so the gauge wasn't stuck. Outside temps were 34*F going down and 23*F coming back today. Smarty was on SW3 default settings. Truck ran good, just curious here.

New Batteries
While down at the P's for Christmas, I broke down and bought 2 new batteries for my truck while down there. The OEM's still seemed OK, but they were 5.5 years old and I wanted to not have a problem down the road or on the road with the old ones!!! Well, I bought the WallyWorld EverStart Maxx.....group size 65. 850CCA, 1000 CA, 3 year free replacement and 9 year prorated replacement. It's made and distributed by Excide Technologies. The OEM batteries are 750CCA. I also bought an Everstart Marine deep cycle battery this spring for the trolling motor in my boat. I did a lot of fishing this year and used that deep cycle on the trolling motor a lot. Seemed like a good battery that's why I got the same for the truck and if something does happen, there are WallyWorlds all over the place (except around Mike) to get it replaced if need be!!!! We'll see how they hold up!!:shades:

Winter Fronts - Best way to keep you Cummins Warm!
Maybe that's true in some parts of Texas, but not up in the panhandle. I lived for 18 months in Amarillo, and we had snow. Sometimes a lot of snow. One blizzard while I was there dumped about 16 inches of snow that basically shut everything down for 3-4 days!!!! One other time, I flew home for a wedding, and when I left Amarillo, it was 0*F outside. When I got to Chitcago, it was also 0*F outside!!!!

A Dirty Word... Oil
As of today, 73,000 miles without a "complete" oil and filter change out. Every 1500-2000 miles or so, I pull the TP out and add about 1 quart of make up oil to replace what the TP was holding. I change the full flow filter yearly and at the same time the TP but add more make up oil then. Takes all of about 10 minutes. While under the hood, I check other things as well. Even with my more frequent TP changes, I'm using over 75% less oil than I was before installing the TP bypass and changing oil and filter at 5,000 mile intervals. So, I'm still money way ahead. The TP filters only cost about .80 cents a piece also. I'm painting my computer room now, so all my stuff is out of the room, but when I put everything back, I'll try to post my Blackstone reports..........if I can find them!!!!! For now, you'll have to take my word that they come back stellar!!!:thanks: And just to make Chuck happy, I'll admit that I run Amsoil lubes in all the other areas of my truck!!!!

CP3 Failure
They're not difficult to change out; but, they are a bit of a PITA because of where they are located. Don't drop the CP3 nut or washer into the front cover or you'll have a much bigger project on your hands!!!!

merry x-mass and happy new year
Definitely having a white Christmas here. I've got about 8-10" of snow on the ground. Have a Merry Christmas everyone. I'll be away for a couple days. Cheers.

Urea or SCR
Personally, if I were to own a newer diesel truck........not brand specific either......I'd rather have to fill a tank with urea than have all this EGR crap and DPF and regeneration etc. The urea would make the underhood environment less obscurred also!!

power chips
Add gauges before any power mod. Most folks do EGT, boost, and lift pump fuel pressure. With an auto tranny, most do trans temp. I've got the Smarty Revo SO6 and it's the proverbial "cats rear end"!!!!!!

11,000+ post!
Yeah, I kind of agree!! All those pictures of supposedly cutting firewood and riding the ATV's................they kind of look a bit "staged" now!!!!! Someone spends way too much time in front of the 'puter!!!!:wow:
