  1. How far from the "Frank Church Land of No Return Wilderness Area" are you???? Always wanted to go there.
  2. Because I have my fuel pressure gauge prior to the fuel filters and my regulator after the CP3; I usually see an "increase" in fuel pressure if the filters start to become "plugged"!!
  3. Since I added the 2 micron FF after the OEM FF in the canister, I only change my FF's once per year. Usually in July/August. Not had any problems.
  4. I've got a good bud with an '03 that has 275,000+ miles on it!!!:thumbup2:What about Taz???
  5. All you ever wanted to know about oil, etc. is here at http://www.bobistheoilguy.com.
  6. Would you mind defining "significant wear"?? In other words, significant wear when compared to or based on what??? Most of us haven't had these Cummins apart before. Thanks.
  7. Ralph Wood always said that oil doesn't "wear out", it only gets dirty/contaminated. That is unless the oil gets hot and "cooks". If you filter finely enough, you can keep your oil analytically clean. I usually take an oil sample once per year, which is about 20,000+ miles. It comes back fine according to Blackstone.
  8. I put the blue and yellow Bilstines on my 04.5; but it's a 4x4. I got them from Genos Garage. Spendy but worth it.
  9. Thanks Mike. I was pulling it from memory; about Ralph, but you verified it!!!
  10. AABEAR, I've got a MotorGuard TP bypass. They're real hard to come by now since the maker of the "housing" doesn't want it to be marketed as an oil bypass filter. The MotorGuard housing was originally designed to filter compressed air with TP. A man named Ralph Wood converted the fittings, etc. to filter oil. If you're interested in these now, I'd say to just follow the link the Mike gave you. The Frantz is the same as the MotorGuard...........it just looks different. In fact; prior to MotorGuard, Ralph Wood sold Frantz bypass oil filters.
  11. Update......after this weekend, I'm at 120, 224!!!
  12. 04.5 2500 4x4 119,987.
  13. That's what I'm approaching now!!! I've officially got about 130 miles to go before a "full" 80,000 miles without a complete oil change, but I thought I be pro-active and tell y'all prior!!!!!:cool:I plan on taking an oil sample and sending it to Blackstone for analysis at the next scheduled TP change out. That'll be just over the 80k mark, but close enough. I'll post the results when I get them. Those "butt wipe" filters work well!!!
  14. Hmmm...........must've left everyone speechless with my prior post!!! Must've 'spained it real good!!!!!:2cents:
  15. I found out about this on another site different from the one I'm linking y'all to now.:moon: You know what I mean!!!!!:lmao2: Most of the posts are worthless and folks asking questions and others just not plain getting it. "Wicked Diesels" has about the best explainations in the thread as to why this works as well as a couple others. It looks like a long thread, but just skim it and look for the longer posts. They'll do a better job than I of explaining.!!! There's the link. http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/3rd-gen-powertrain/23399-cp3-timing-results.html
  16. I'll do my best to 'splain the CP3 timing.:smart:In all actuality, you're not "timing" it to the engine or anything like that. There are no timing marks on the gears for this. What you're doing is "phasing" the pulses from the CP3 to the engine so they don't make the metallic ticking sound that I've been hearing since I put a re-manufactured CP3 on the truck just over a year ago. The CP3 is a 3 piston rotary style pumps and the Cummins an inline 6 piston engine. If the pulses from the fuel igniting in the cylinders and the fuel getting pumped to the rail via the CP3 aren't in "phase", you get some gear lash sound. Remember when the 3rd gens first came out and some were real quiet and some had this ticking sound????? I seem to recall that a lot of the ticking was said to be injectors, but I'll bet much of it was this. It sounds like someone tapping a quarter on the windshield and only happens after the truck warms up and the oil thins a bit. The colder, thicker oil I think masks the sound. The lash adjust on the valves they did also made the truck quieter also. The power is so SMOOTH now. Does that help???
  17. It took a while, but it's done. I initially took it in to have the front seal replaced, find the "thumping" in the front end and to "time the CP3". I thought for sure it was the front seal, as there was oil all over the front cover and looked to be coming from the crankshaft seal. They replaced it, and while in there they did the CP3 timing thing. The thumping was worn out stabilizer bar bushings!! The axle U-joints were also toast.......greasables too!!!!Anyhow, I get the truck back..............sounds super quiet now..........that CP3 timing thing really does work!! Drive around to do some errands and guess what?????? I've still got the oil spots under the truck at each stop!!!! It's a similar pattern to prior, but definitely different. I call the shop up and tell them I'm bringing back in Monday AM as it was Saturday mid afternoon now.Bring it back on Monday. Get a call on Wednesday telling me they found the leak, but that it requires major truck/engine dissassembly!!!! It's a gasket that goes between the block and a machined "spacer" that the front cover bolts to. The bolts from the front cover actually go through this part and into the block. This piece is what makes space for all the gears behind the front cover.Well to replace this, you need to essentially pull the front of the truck off, pull the valve cover, pushrods, cam, etc.........!!!!!!! They're good mechanics over there, but the owner is buds with a Cummins tech and was getting info from him how to do this more efficiently.Long story short, I'm out more $$$$ than I wanted to be having to take it in twice, but the truck is brand new quiet now. The CP3 timing thing and the valve lash adjustment because of having to pull the rockers, pushrods etc. have made my truck so quiet, and so smoothly powerful now, it's almost scary. Pat, the owner of the shop even drove it around for a day to make sure there wasn't any leaks. He asked me when I picked the truck up if I had a chip in her. I said no, I have a Smarty on her!!!!
  18. Because we have the "Drive By Media" today which is in cahoots with the Liberal, Democrats, Socialists, Communists, and Marxists that have infiltrated the core of this country. If the media was actually doing the job the Founding Fathers imagined that they'd do, they'd have dug this up during the primary campaigns!!!
  19. :nono::nono:Cough, cough, cough..................Can you say Walbro?????
  20. Hmmm. Could be very interesting!!!!:smart:
  21. Got the fingers crossed for that!!!:hyper: Just gotta get the darn oil leak fixed........it's coating the truck but good!!!!
  22. I went up to Black River Falls, WI to guide some "pheasant shooters" for a member of my retriever club this past weekend. I was pleasantly surprised by the ground cover at the hunt club and by the shooting of the shooters. Anyhow, it's about 225 miles from my place to BRF. I filled up the night before I left, so I had a full tank of fuel. Probably 200 miles of that is interstate which I drove at 2000rpm or about 68mph. Once there at the hunt club there was some short driving to the leased farms to guide shooters. There was also driving to and from the guide bunk house which was about 20 miles away.Long story short, I got back Sunday afternoon, took yesterday off because of lack of sleep from the bunk house SNORERS..........I hitched the work trailer up today and went to my closest account about 11 miles away, came home and dropped the trailer, and then went to get some work supplies ( about 25 miles away ).After getting supplies; on the way back, I filled up about 3 miles from my house and had 661.5 miles on the tank of fuel and I filled her to the neck with 32.1xx gallons of fuel. The overhead "Lie-O-Meter" said my average MPG was 22.8 and the DTE when I pulled into the station was on 3. By my math, that works out to about a 20.5mpg average for that tank. I'm assuming that it was still winter diesel also. Not too shabby IMHO!!
  23. Gotta wait for it to stop raining!!!! I'm leaving tomorrow AM to go up to Black River Falls, WI to guide some "shooters" on a pheasant shoot. It's a Friday-Sunday deal, but I'll take my camera in case I get a chance to "shoot" my truck!!!!! Sorry guys.........I didn't think you'd be so "curious" on how she looks!!!!!! Later guys!!!
  24. ISX, I'm not "scrubbing" with the gasoline soaked sock.......just rubbing on the tape residue to soften it. Then I get after it with fingernails and then soak with gasoline again. It took 2-3 times to get it all off. Doesn't look like if did anything to the paint at all. I tried WD40 after I read your post and before I finished "debadging" the truck today. It didn't do squat. Do they sell a different WD40 where you're at??!!
  25. I love the way my truck looks without all the badges. I just finished removing the badging from the sides of my truck. Sweet!!!!!!!!!:thumb1: Very clean!!!!:thumbup2:
