cummins california spec
The 04.5+ trucks are all 50 state legal. The '03 and early '04 trucks could have had Commyfornication specs from the factory. The regular '03 and early '04's were rated at 305HP and 555ft. lbs. The Kalifornia specs were 235HP and 460ft. lbs. I believe.

Interesting Reading on Fuel milage
Yeah, I read that a while ago also. Slow down, keep your foot out of it, use worn out tires etc. etc.!!!! It's good advice though!!!

firewood splitting...
Isn't each row a "face cord" of wood Mike????? I always thought a "cord" of wood was 3 rows of 16" logs 4 feet high and 8 feet long........or 4x4x8. A face cord is 16"x4x8. Right????

No Lift Pump
Good point, I didn't even consider that!!! Makes perfect sense though!!!! Thanks!! --- Update to the previous post... I have no clue as to what GM is doing now. I know the Duramax bombers have added LP's to their fuel systems to ensure adequate fuel supply during heavy fueling. I was thinking the same thing about the RP at idle also.

I agree 100%. Like I said in the long post above, I could really feel the difference in the truck and see the difference in the gauges as the temperature cooled down from a high of 101* to about 82-83*. I kept the cruise on 65mph on the interstates and 60mph on the state roads. That helps a lot also.

No Lift Pump
For about 2-3 months now, my fuel pressure gauge has been real erratic. The needle not staying steady, bouncey and some times cutting out all together. I pulled the connections at the pump under the truck and cleaned the contacts and terminals. That seemed to help for a while. Then it started acting up a couple months ago. I bought a new Walbro pump off Ebay and a new wiring harness from GDP. Richard from GDP doesn't sell his Walbro system any longer, but he still had some leftover harnesses in stock. I've had this stuff for about 6 months now just in case. I keep meaning to take the harness and pump to a friend of mine and have him make it a bit more "weather tight" in the connections etc. Well, anyhow, on my Saturday trip from Springfield, IL to Benton, KY the fuel pressure gauge is acting "hinky"!! It started that morning at about 25psi and as I drove and the temperature outside got hotter and hotter, the pressure about 200 miles into it, was reading 23psi. Not a solid 23psi though. The needle would bounce going over bumps and occasionally drop to 0 and then come back up. Then about 100 miles from Benton, KY, the needle goes to 0 and doesn't come back. I'm thinking.........Do I stop???? Do I drive on????? It's not a good feeling driving not knowing if it's the pump, gauge, fuse, relay etc. I decided to drive on seeing that my rail pressure was still normal and the truck was driving fine. Getting off the interstate onto the KY state roads I got a scare though. If I let the truck go to idle at a stop, the RP was about 500-750psi lower than normal. Thank God that I didn't have but 2-3 stops before I got to where I was going. When I stopped there, I left the truck running and quickly jumped out and crawled under the truck to see if the LP was running............it wasn't. That leg of my trip was about 270 miles and I drove about 100 of it with no lift pump pressure. Good thing I bought the new pump and harness along. The following morning, I tore into it. It's a real simple system. Ignition power to a relay......relay trips and then pulls 15amps of fused power down to the Walbro. I decided to check the easy stuff first. The fuse wasn't blown. Check relay..........I pulled the one that was in there and put in the one off the new harness...........still nothing. Checked the wires going into the base part of the relay........the power wire to the pump pulled out with almost no resistance!!!!!!!! I decided there to just swap in the new harness. About 25 minutes later, I had a solid 25psi of pressure and it stayed there all the way home!!!!! The wire that pulled out from the relay base was corroded a bit and I'm guessing that the up and down of the gauge was just the harness moving a bit going over bumps etc. and effecting the electical flow. I still plan of making the new harness and pump more weather proof. When I find time!!!!! I don't think a VP44 would've made it that far without a LP!! The CP3 actually has low pressure pump on it. The early Duramax's had a similar CP3 set up and GM didn't use a LP with them. I just don't understand how the CP3 could pull fuel through a pump that wasn't running???? The real hot weather making the fuel thinner??????? Any ideas?????

New Miles & Mileage Records
Made a long weekend road trip this past Friday until today. I had to go to Beardstown, IL to pick up a rifle that I won in a DU raffle 2 weeks ago. From there I went to Springfield, IL to stay the night with friends and hang out for a while Saturday morning. Late Saturday morning I left Springfield for Benton, KY to see the puppies that my dog sired. Spent Saturday night in Benton and left for home about 5:00PM Sunday evening after spending the day with the pups and hanging out with Doug, the owner of the dam that had the pups. I left my house about 10:00AM on Friday with about a half tank of fuel and drove the 60 miles down to my folks house to leave my dog with them for the weekend. He would've been miserable on the trip seeing that it was really, really hot!!!! Left there about 11:30AM to head to Beardstown. A friend asked me to stop in Bath, IL (about 25 miles N of Beardstown) and pick up some goose decoys for him, so I did that and continued to Beardstown. I got to Beardstown and picked up the rifle ( an AR15 ) and then headed for Springfield. About 3 miles from my friends house I stopped for fuel. That tank of fuel I averaged 20.8mpg and got 650 miles on it. The 650 miles was a record for my truck.........a short lived record. The first half of that tank had some towing miles of it also......I'd say about 75-100 miles or so. Once I left for the trip, I kept the speed on the Interstates at 65mph and on the state roads at 60mph. As I said earlier, I hung out in Springfield until 11:00 and headed for KY. I kept the speed the same as before. It was much hotter on Sat. than on Fri. but it wasn't humid, so I really didn't need the AC and the sun wasn't beating directly on me, so I never used the AC on this trip. So anyhow, it was about 325 miles down to Benton. I should also say that I ran the last 100 miles or so of that leg of the trip with no lift pump either; but that'll be another post!!!! Left the truck at Doug's shop Sat night until I left to head home on Sunday evening. Spent the day with Doug and the pups and headed home. It was 101* at 5:00 in the evening when I headed home and made it the 350 miles to my parents house and had about 1/8 tank of fuel left. Spent the night at my parents and headed home today and made it the 60 miles home or I should say to the fuel station to fill up. The overhead DTE was reading 26 miles when I pulled into the station. Stuffed the tank with 31.16 gallons of diesel and had 727 miles on that tank of fuel. Mileage hand calculated to be 23.3mpg!!!! Very happy camper here!!!! Gotta run now, but watch for my lift pump thread. I really think the real hot dry weather influenced the mileage on this trip. I've driven the leg to KY before but it's always been cooler/colder. In fact coming home on Sunday, I could feel the difference in the truck as the temperature dropped as the sun went down. Driving while it was over 100* to maintain 65mph on level ground the truck needed only about 3psi of boost. But once into the flats of central IL with the temps now in the low 80's the truck needed about 4-5psi of boost. The hotter the temps, the less dense the air is and it's easier for the truck to push through.

Diesel fuel vs. pecan
Or you could look at it like this...............We were dumb enough to watch a 2.5 minute You Tube video of a "nut" on a stove burner, or..................You and I have been smoking too much "ganga" lately because we've got we've got too much time on our hands like ISX or................that "ganga" was really, really good and we just had to see that nut get toasted because we were toasted!!!!!:ahhh:

Fueled up at BP today
There's a station that just changed hands, and is now a BP near me. I filled up there on Friday, because it's the cheapest fuel I've seen around me. I paid $2.95/gal, and for whatever reason, I usually get good mileage out of BP fuel when on rare occasions I fill up there. I wonder how much Bio.....if and.......BP adds to their fuel???

What are the differences between second gen and 3rd gen wit CR
AH64ID beat me to most of it..............heck, almost all of it!!!!!!! I had a '99 regular cab, long bed before my current truck. As much as I loved that '99, my 04.5 is twice the truck and is way more "refined" IMHO. Sorry 2nd gen guys!!!! Quieter, better ride, way more power, just to name a few things. All that said, these 3rd gens go thru front end parts faster than the 2nd gens. I don't know if it's the Dana vs. AAM thing or not...............or just that the parts are made crappier now!!!!!??? Believe it or not, my 04.5 actually gets.......on average.......better mileage than my '99 did. My old '99 is now my folks truck, but I always make a point to drive it when I go down there.

Wife fueled the Truck!!
ATF.........shame on you!!!!!!:nono: Let's Edge-U-Mu-Cate guys!!!!! Years ago, ATF was essentially just "light hydraulic" fluid. Nowadays with more modern AT's, the tranny's need a more "robust" ATF with all kinds of additives etc. Those "additives", are not good to burn in your engine. Others will post with more info if'n you don't believe me!!!
