BD Steering Box Stabilizer
For my 3rd gen it was about $225.00 delivered from Geno's garage. You may want to check out the rest of your front end before putting this on though. Make sure all you parts are sound. If not, and you put this on, you may well be covering up a problem.

Winter Fronts - Best way to keep you Cummins Warm!
Very rarely do I get to truly test my winter front out. I live in suburbia and I rarely get to drive without stopping to see how fast the engine will reach "normal operating temperature"!! However, on my Thanksgiving trip to ND, they worked quite well. With temps in the teens, we left our lodgings one mornings and drove about 12 miles to where we were gonna hunt. My truck was at normal operating temperature in about 6 miles. That's with essentially no warm up also.....Everyone gets in, start the truck, ask if anyone forgot anything, and then head out!!!! They work. If I lived way farther North, I'd consider the full engine blanket thing that a lot of the Canucks recommend!! :thumbsup

No go on the link Mike!!!

BD Steering Box Stabilizer
Absolutely, IMHO, this should be an OEM part!!! Yeah, it's that good!!!! :thumbsup

2 Stroke and the Common Rail
Yeah, way overkill!!! In my 04.5, I'm running 1/2oz per 1gal diesel. I do that because some of the fuel stations I fill up at sell "diesel surprise".....which is diesel that can contain anywhere from 2-20%bio diesel!!! Even if I do fill at a station that is pumping bio, I still add the 2 stroke oil. I've not experienced any problems at all from running it with the bio!! The past 2 weeks we've seen temps down a low as -10 here. No gelling etc.

Cold Winter...
Twas too cold for me to work Monday and Tuesday!!! If it does get to at least 15*F outside, I don't work. Having to go in and out of barns is just too tough. I mean, if I'm dressed for outside comfort, I roast inside......and then I get cold outside because I'm sweaty. If I dress for inside comfort, I get cold outside because I don't have enough clothes on!!! Then to top it off, I cannot work with gloves on outside in my work trailer. When it's cold, grabbing a pair of tongs, cooling hot horse shoes in water, makes for cold, wet hands!!!! Not to mention that when I bring my hand tools into the barn first thing in the AM, they frost up so bad due to the humidity in the barns!!!

ATS and EPA Letter
Every forum I'm a member of is going bananas over this. Much of it is knee-jerk reaction though. Don't know what really to make of it.........yet!!!

2cycle and B5
Much of the diesel I buy here in "The Peoples Republic of Illinois" is bio-surprise!!! Meaning it contains a bio % usually between 2-11%. However, I filled up at a station that on the pump it said that it may contain up to 20% bio. They don't have to tell you the exact amount of bio around here unlike unleaded gasoline w/ethanol in it!! I use about 16oz of 2 stroke oil per fill up even with the bio-surprise and have been fine.......even to temps down to -15*F. Bio is mandated in Minnesota. All diesle there must contain 2% bio. I've not read of a rash of fuel gelling up there since the mandate, so it must be winterezed!!!

Hey Flagman
Gosh, after seeing your pix, I feel worthless and weak!!!! LOL LOL Very COOL!!!! :thumbsup :thumbsup Can you help me out here.......Is it proper "flag etiquette" to fly a flag under the USA flag on the same flag pole??? The lower flag in my picture is the NRA flag. They're probably the most Pro-America/Pro-Flag as any organization can get. I've got a kind of small yard, so another flag pole would be taking up space. All the best!!! :thumbsup :thumbsup

Fuel Systems Question
I've got a serious question here. All these diesel "fuel system cleaners" out there. You know, PS, Lucas, Howes, etc. What are they actually cleaning???? What needs to be "cleaned" on the INSIDE of our fuel systems???? Diesel is unlike gas in that is doesn't evaporate readily and leave varnish type deposits. Diesel is oil. When I did my fuel tank vent mod, I had to drop the fuel tank. It was pristine on the inside!!! When I added my GDP Walbro lift pump system, looked inside the lines I didn't need, and didn't see any deposits. Occasionally I find some "remnants" in the bottom of the fuel filter canister, but isn't that what my 2 fuel filters are for???? Do these "cleaners" dissolve those remnants??? I don't think so; but maybe I'm wrong. In my 3rd gen the pressures are much higher than in the previous generation trucks, so "clean" fuel is a must. Hence, I run 2 fuel filters. The second one filters down to 2 microns. Inside and after the CP3 on my truck, the pressures can see 25,000psi at WOT in the common rail, high pressure injector lines and the injectors themselves. I don't see how any deposits can stick to the inside of the fuel system at those pressures. Am I making sense???? :smart Now if your injectors are carboned up because you don't work your truck, that's another matter. Our Cummins are designed to be worked hard!! IMHO, many of the guys with problems don't work their trucks very hard!!

Price of fuel where you live ?????
Going to North Dakota over Thanksgiving, I filled up in Minnesota for $2.49gal in Fergus Falls going up. And then coming back $2.59gal in Columbia. After I got home, I filled up on Tuesday here for $2.71gal.

Citgo
I filled up at the above fuel station this week. While the fuel was dispensing, I was reading the crap on the pump. In my area, Citgo diesel can be anywhere from 5-20%bio!!! :wow :wow :wow How in the heck are we supposed to formulate our 2 stroke under variations like that?????? Because they don't tell you the "ACTUAL" %.........they don't have to!!!! Either way, I'm still getting good mileage.........and that's using 1/2oz 2 stroke per 1 gallon of fuel......... or about 16oz per fill up!!!

Trip Report
Update!! I filled up today. I could have gone quite a bit further, but I passed a station that had fuel for $2.71/gal which is good around here!! Anyhow, that third tank I mentioned in the above post netted a 20.2mpg average!! :thumbsup Much of that was running 70-75mpg also down the interstate from Minnesota into Wisconsin into Illinois!!! Do y'all think 21+mpg if I maintained 65?? I do because at 55mph I'm at about 2psi of boost, 65mph I'm at 4-5psi of boost. At between 70-75 I'm running 7-9psi boost. Takes a lot more pedal to get from 65-75mph than it does to go from 55-65mph!!! Seems the longer I have the Smarty on my truck, the better the highway mileage is. Smarty gets me way better "around town" mileage.......I was a bit dissappointed in the highway mileage though. Granted that first trip to ND was towing a small trailer.....but I was expecting better. I guess driving into the wind both ways doesn't help!!!! LOL LOL

Trip Report
Got back last night from North Dakota. Me and 2 friends went out pheasant hunting. Hunting was fair........dog work was very good.......temps were cold.......truck ran great........twas a great time!!!! First tank of fuel netted a 19.5mpg average. This tank was all highway; and most of that was running 70+mph!!! Second tank wasn't so good. Once we filled up in northern MN, it's only 3 hours to where we go in ND. After we get there, it's a lot of cold starts and short trips going from hunting spot to hunting spot. Had some extended high idle time in there also. This tank only got 15.8mpg. I'm still on the third tank, and I've got about 550 miles on it and the fuel gauge is reading between 1/4-1/8. Should be a 600 mile tank and an easy 19+mpg tank. This third tank I was running it hard to get home. We were trying to beat the snow storm. Didn't work. I was running 75+mph until the traffic (due to the snow falling) forced us to slow to a crawl-40mph for about 75 miles. Got home and there was about 2 inches of snow. Woke up this AM to 7 inches of snow!!!I had my Smarty set on SW5 default settings. There were 3 guys and 2 80lb. Labs in the truck.......and our assorted gear. Not a heavy load, but not an empty truck either. These figures are on winter diesel using 1/2oz of 2 stroke oil per gallon of diesel fuel. I even used the 2 stroke oil when we filled in MN which has the 2%bio mandate for all diesel!!! Truck ran great!!

Winter Fronts - Best way to keep you Cummins Warm!
Twas over 50* here on Friday, and my truck still ran at normal temps!!! Won't really know until it gets under freezing for a while!! Can't hurt though!!! :thumbsup

Winter Fronts - Best way to keep you Cummins Warm!
I made my own winter front for my truck last week. I know in the past that I said I never needed one, but what the heck, I had some time and some spare parts!!! I essentially copied what you did Mike with yours!! :smart I made my front out of some clear lexan. I hope it holds up and doesn't get brittle in the real cold!!! I just hacked out the general shape and then fine tuned the fit on my belt sander. Not perfect, but good enough. I had the lexan in the garage.....all I had to buy was some bolts, washers and wing nuts. Came out to about $5.00 in hardware!!! It was 48 degrees here today and my truck ran at normal temps. :thumbsup There's still a lot of air getting to the cooling system with these in place even with the air restriction from these. Truck does warm up fast though!!! :thumbsup

BD Steering Box Stabilizer
Mike, my truck tracks so straight now. All those little dips and whoops in the roads, no longer affect how the trucks tracks. Bump steer is darn near gone. Essentially what this does is support the pitman arm shaft with a bearing that is attached to a bracket that is bolted to BOTH frame members. Vague steering in our trucks is often due to frame flexing because the steering box is only attached to one frame member and the pitman arm shaft has no support. This bad boy fixes that!! :thumbsup

BD Steering Box Stabilizer
This item is the real deal!!! :thumbsup With all the front end work I had done, along with the new tires, and then the new shocks.......my truck drove real, real good!!!! However, with the BD Steering Box Stabilizer it drives a whole lot better. Almost sports car like in response!!!! This should be an OEM item IMHO!!! :smart :smart

Smarty
I''m leaving for North Dakota tomorrow. It's my/our annual hunting trip. I'll post about mileage and stuff. And yes, Maiden, I promise I will take more pictures!!!! :thumbsup All the best everyone. I'll post back in about 2 weeks or so!!! :thumbsup :thumbsup Mike, I've had a couple chances to plug your website on CF recently!! Hopefully we'll get a few more converts!!! See you when I get back!!! :smart B)

Price of fuel where you live ?????
I filled up last Friday for $4.09/gal!!! Unleaded was higher at that same station!! I love it!!! Not the price, but the fact that unleaded regular was pricier than diesel!!!!! Just the way it used to be..........and should be!!!!! LOL LOL B)

Smarty
Don't know what happened with this tank of fuel. Maybe bad fuel, much cooler weather, more trailer towing or all of the above. I've only got 559 miles on this tank and I need to fill tomorrow AM. I guessing that this tank will be about 18.5mpg. :confused I guess many would be very happy with that though!!!!! Hahahaha!!!! LOL :smart I tend to think it's poor fuel, because the truck feels doggy........almost like winter diesel. I recently cleaned my air filter and changed both fuel filters also. Just turned 88,000 on the clock today also!! That's about 14,000miles on the SouthBend clutch now, 8000 miles after all the front end work, and about 7000 miles on the Cooper Discoverer ATR's now. Truck is real tight. And I just put on new Bilstein shocks around also!!! Big difference with them!!! I would recommend them!!

Considering Propane Injection
Why, you ask???? Why not???? LOL I can write off the propane as a business expense, and right now I can buy propane for $3.00/gal. I'm not looking for power, only mileage. I thinking only 1-4psi of fumigation added into the boost tube pre-turbo. The basics of the system seem pretty straight forward. I think I can buy everything I need for under $200.00. I would rig the system so that I can "arm" the system from the cab via a switch........of course the tank valve would need to be open. That way I can decide when to use it and when not to. Any insight would be appreciated. I've already read the "Poor Mans Propane Setup" over on the CF twice. Saw your input Mike!! B) I don't want to buy a kit that increases propane volume with boost pressure. I want this to be a more "on demand" system..........Propane will not be injected until 5psi of boost is seen or something like that!!!! HELP PLEASE!!!! I'm just in the planning stage now!!!

September 11
This is the last time President Bush will be the President for the anniversary of the September 11 attacks on our country. I can't help wondering in this election year how things would've been different had Forrest Gore....I mean Al Gore had been in charge. If any of y'all have done any reading into Islam and such, you'll know that appeasement is a sign of weakness in their eyes. Al Gore=the ultimate appeaser!!! They made a grave mistake underestimating President George W. Bush. He kicked some dupa over there. Let's continue the I love America/Strong America that John McCain and Sarah Palin believe in. Not the "Let try to understand them so we know why they don't like us" approach by the other side. Fundamental rules of negotiating are: 1. Always negotiate from a position of strength. 2. Know what the other side wants. NoBama ignores these and many others. Can you imagine how he'd emaciate our strength in the region????? Then we'd have nothing to bargain with!!!!! Off the soap box.......for now!!! Remember the fallen, and never forget who did it!!!!! :smart :smart :thumbsup Joe

Buried my truck..
Guys, at least around my parts, I can usually wait for the "prevailing wind" to aid my "tree felling" escapades!!!! I've got a long rope and some "come alongs", and I can usually drop a tree almost on the very spot I want to hit. Granted Mike, most of my tree felling doesn't compare to the size of what you're cutting down, but still I'm real anal about tying off, proper notching and then proper back cutting!!!! I dunno.........maybe I'd surprise you or maybe I wouldn't with my "timber skills"!!! Hahahaha!!!! :smart
