  1. I don't know how you are making out. My 01.5... limited slip axles under it. I went into 5 high to bump up onto the town green where we were setting up a historical exhibit. Thought the extra traction would prevent tearing up the grass. I unloaded, pulled the truck over next to the pavement.... backed up, packed up, pulled out. I guess I didn't go straight enough. No way could I get it out of 4 high, bound up tight. I could not turn & the truck hopped like a big bunny. Eventually I relieved the stress & it came right out of 4 wd. Really freaky! Do you suppose it could be bound up?
  2. I'm finding a rumor that the 6.7 Cummins is/was a joint venture with Iveco. What really matters is the fuel system. Google found this link: http://www.pdrdiesel.com/products/Power_Box_for_6_7L_Cummins_Iveco_engine-1209-181.html
  3. I was not saving in a sent folder though I just turned that back on. We'll see if anything else shows up. But the one former GF (was not amused by the ED drugs ads) and my other email accounts don't cross so I don't think it was mined off an email.
  4. Another "war story"... my marina customer had a "raw water cooled" (ocean water) inboard "Mercruiser" Ford based V8. Came in from 20 miles off shore on the sad end of a tow rope. There were pipe plugs in the head into the water jacket with a recessed square socket under the valve covers. One of them was eroded away so a pin hole devoluped spraying water into the oil which drained into the crankcase. The rubber impeller sea water pump, pumped water into the engine as it was running. I don't know how they kept it running so long but eventually the oilly froth was ingested by the Crank Case Ventilation which shut it down! I dropped the oil pan over a huge catch basin... the crank case was filled with a cottage cheese like mess. The customer wisely junked the motor (probably a 351cid, 233 hp), I repowered it with a Chrysler Marine 440cid, rated at 330hp. My suggestion was to run at the same hull speed as before but at 3/4 throttle. I was told the owner prefered to run with only the prop in the water! (It would make that Blackfin 24 fly!)
  5. I have a few different accounts to "sort" my correspondance. My address book contacts got spam apparently sent from one of my Yahoo accounts... (even showed up in my other accounts since I have my other accounts listed in the address book for easy forwarding.) Yet, I ran full scans & I haven't found any sign of Virus or MalWare. I changed the password already. My contacts have already started emailing me warnings.Russ
  6. But AVG, AdAware not finding anything. What the heck? I changed the PassWord...
  7. Way Cool! What does that fit?
  8. Nope, I'm just fine sitting on cold seats. Tell yas a funny one though. Last Summer I was riding shotgun in wife's Subaru (heated seats), something I rarely do because it is such a struggle for me to get in on the passenger's side. I asked her to turn up the AC as I was getting warm (sets my MS off). AC does not do much good when yer sitting in heated seat... turned on in July. So then we have a fight... She says I bumped the switch getting in... I say she was trying to roast my balls. She liked the heated seats, heading off to the hospital in her thin scrubs in winter.
  9. Nobody loves a smart asp... Redneck heated seats... a can of sterno underneath.
  10. I have a lead on a shop in the city that does auto/truck parts fabrication. According to my contact, they've seen these repairs before.
  11. Is it truely limp mode? Codes should tell. I had an import pickup drove me nuts. Sometimes... totally random... it would shut off totally, other times limp along. I never found anything in the fuel filter... but changing the filter would get me going quicker. I retrofitted a glass bowl filter (still never fond anything in the fuel). I found I could reuse the filters & gaskets after they air dryed so I dried them under the cap in the back.Finially, in despiration, I pulled the truck into my shop at the marina where I worked & said there just has to be something wrong in the fuel tank. So I dropped the tank... and in the tank I found 6 or more of the cardboard discs from dry gas containers. They would get sucked against the pickup & cut off the fuel. Opening the filter would relieve the vacume & free the obstruction. Some stupid gas jockey (self serve was rare in those days) had managed to get them into the tank... or was it intentional? I sloshed things around with the slight remaining fuel & eventually caught them all with my mechanic's pick up tool. I drove the truck for 50K & sold it for more than I paid for it.
  12. Very many years ago... I worked at a summer camp on an island in a lake. Vehicles were left at the landing by the general store... though obiviously there was no overnight security. My RoadRunner was parked next to my buddies hot Mustang. He returned from his day off & asked if I'd bumped his car as there were scrapes that he could not account for. I had not had my day off that week so the minor damage was unexplained. My next day off, I found all my tires flat, sitting on the rims. I retrieved my scuba tanks & blew the tires up, luckily they were not damaged & still seated on the rims. His next day off, he finds MAJOR damage & calls the Police. Only to discover there was a warrent out for him for felony hit & run with injuries. It was pretty impossible to sneak off the island without someone knowing (we could leave... 20 minutes by canoe... after hours but someone else would have to be with our campers). It turned out the local kids had been 'borrowing' his car... and Lord knows how many others... by finding their hidden keys. He said Gee, I thought I left more gas than that a couple of times but thought I was mistaken. Except for his wrecked car... the Police were satisfied... not sure if / how he got it fixed. Presumeably my flat tires were revenge for not leaving them a key they could find. The local garage used to joke with us that they knew where everybodies hidden keys were... typically pretty obivious up on the lift. I've been happy with my solution. We have done this with all family cars... dear daughter took one to college & all was well until she let her GFs know. Then they started borrowing her car until she removed the hidden key. With a sedan with an older style separate trunk key... you hide a trunk key & leave the ignition inside the car.
  13. I don't need LED headlights bad enough to buy what that car costs. I had "daylight" in front of my RoadRunner about 1969 with 4 (off road) H1 Halogens on. I guess I'm the odd man out, I'm pretty happy with the stock lights in my truck. Not so much with the Cirus.
  14. Yeah, you'd think even a vampire would have figured that one out!
  15. The reason I started power unlocking is it unlocks both sides, so if Mr Clumsy screws up & locks the driver's door I'm not standing out in the snow. LOL! Though I would have to walk around the truck. Sometimes, it's no big deal but too often my legs are just rubber.
  16. Well, I'm not a Vampire Fan but I thought it was funny. Sometimes ya just gotta have a sense of humor... I suppose Mike won't like this Adriana Lima ad either: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWrJgFjxlS0&feature=player_embedded Is there something for sale?
  17. Well, I know I did not intentinally lock the truck. More like I couldn't open the door fully because of the supports for the fuel bay roof... I "must have" bumped the mechanical button while trying not to fall on the concrete.

  19. It's a risky habit that I have... leaving the key in while I'm in & out of the truck nearby. What I do is pull the key half out of the switch. The Ding stops. However, you run the risk of locking yourself out of the truck by accident. I did so pumping fuel a couple of town away from home. You know how my legs are bad, I must have bumped the door button getting out. Some people, smarter than me, carry a spare key in their wallet. I have a hidden key... I drilled out to 1/4" the round hole on a duplicate all metal key. I removed a license plate... taped the key to the back. Screwed the plate back on with straight slot screws. It does not show with the plate inplace... and I used really long screws (anybody who wants to unscrew my plate is going to be there a very long time). The day I locked myself out... I could have borrowed a straight screw driver or I used a quarter to unscrew the plate fully, get the door open & put the plate back. I try to remember to hit the power unlocks to unlock both sides before getting out to pump fuel.It had been a long time since I was locked out of a vehicle. There was something rattling around in the trunk of my RoadRunner... I fixed the rattle & as I was slamming the trunk I realized the key was in there. I stood out in the falling snow for 2 hours before my Dad got home from the airport, picking up my sister... in those days before cell phones.
  20. Can I POR15 over nuts & bolts & still get them out later? Assuming they are in good condition before painting.
  21. I'm kind of scr*w*d since the truck was not rustproofed or undercoated. It was on the spec list I wrote but not on the truck... I was sick at the time & didn't catch the salesman's error. The shop suggested getting the underneath sand blasted & that POR 15 rust stop paint applied. The problem, of course, is I can't do much of anything myself. I'm going to see if I can get it done. I probably should not have spent the money to buy this truck (new)... and I sure can not afford to buy another. I'm in this one too far to quit, so I have to get it fixed.
  22. The cup that the drivers side front spring sits in on the front axle is mostly gone... the attached bracket that anchors the link to the front sway bar is detached.I went by the Wheel & Brake shop... the owner put the truck up on the lift, went over the whole frame & rear axle. General rust but nothing else real bad. I like his throughness. These parts will have to be fabricated... he's going to get back to me. I am still happy with the work he did on the Cirus. Of course I hate paying but I lke things fixed so they stay fixed.
  23. I did not say the computer re-booted & I don't think that was it. I think this was a stupid low tech problem. Well, last year you'll recall the dead lift pump that wasn't really dead... though I ended up putting in an AD anyway... turned out to be a bad battery ground on the passengers side. I was amazed... to find the positive comes off the drivers side but the ground is off the passengers side. I added anti-corrosion felt washers because I had them but I was impressed that these batteries really don't collect corrosion link previous lead acid batteries I'm familiar with. Still, lead terminals DO oxidize. Oiling or greasing to keep air out seems like a good idea.
  24. As I posted in the Dead Battery thread:Yesterday, I decided P*ss on it... I had already lost my clock & radio stations (nothing to lose) so I disconnected both batteries Negs, Positives Then reconnected Positives then Negatives after cleaning up the battery terminals & wire ends throughly... Today the wait to start worked normally, & truck lit off instantly, first click of the key. Now, that's what I'm talking about!
  25. Finally got a nice day to work outside. I pulled all the battery conections, cleaned them & put them back. No sign that Sears had taken them off at all. No corrosion (Have to say this is nice to have clean batteries). There was a little oxidation between post & cable ends. Both batteries read 12.36 Volts. This is after sitting for 2 days. I don't know how these batteries seem to have survived being run down. I wish I'd checked the battery voltage before I slapped the charger on there. I didn't go back with the key to try to start it. Tomorrow. --- Update to the previous post... Yesterday, I decided P*ss on it... That's what I'm talking about! I suspect but can not prove that susquent to the dead batteries, that some connection got loose / dirty.
