  1. I think i am getting senile. I drew a schematic that had a chassis ground. When another grounding source presented itself i just drew a blank. Thanks for the help.
  2. You guys say i need a fuel pump relay. I buy a new relay and understand all the wiring to it. Crawl under the truck and find 2 wires going to my fuel pump. ! red and 1 black. OK find the ground. Use ohm meter, both go to ground. Fire the truck up and red reads 13.9 and black reads .3. Check black with ohm meter and it does not show ground. ?Probable goes to ground through computer?? Do not want to screw anything up! HELP?
  3. The main reason i use 1/4 inch air brake line is because it meets air brake standards. It will go a million miles and 20 years in heavy truck application. The only thing that will hurt it is welding spatter or drips from cutting. I have seen it wear through aluminum without harm to the tubing. How many times have you seen auto parts 1/8 become brittle and break or kink. Make an orffice fitting for pulsation. solder inside of fitting and drill # 50 hole.
  4. Problem solved. When the transfer pump was not getting power( no ground) The truck was run completely out of fuel. No codes? What does a farmer do? Crank on it till something happens. Sure enough he cranked it till fuel got to the injectors and away it went. Why did i not think of something this simple and crack some lines?
  5. Yep! 400hp clutch. All that in a 9 inch pressure plate.
  6. 2001 tail and marker and 2001 engine wiring
  7. My Brittany, who owns the back seat of my truck is chomping at the bit. I think Chuckar season opened in Idaho last week. Hells cyn was my kind of place 40 years ago. Nevada opens Oct 9 and i hope to find some flatter country where my quad will be doing most of the work locating them. Any hunters out there , i wish you good hunting and good camping.
  8. I was going to comment on some RV275s i bought from Vulcan. My local and towing milage has gone up. Taking a long trip towing around 19,000 gcw next week. Going to keep tight records and let you know. As for stick / auto my avatar vehicle has a 40 lb schaffer clutch and any time i get the urge to drive a stick, i take it for a spin. Can not hold the pedal down at signals ! My auto was build by Mojave green all the trick stuff, some gorend components, triple disk mojave green converter, 2nd gear lock up,1200 rpm stall speed. He only charged me $2400.00 but i think he felt he owed me a lot of favors. Do not know his regular price.
  9. Put a reader on it this AM. First it says there are 2 codes set, I go to read codes and it says there are no codes set. ?? About confusing as the P1693 and no other codes come up. I am pretty sure the vp is bad. The loom going to the rear of the truck had an intermitent open in the ground circuit. The ground i think also grounds the transfer pump in the tank. No ground no fuel! He says at times for the past 6 months the tail and turns would all flash together. That means no ground. Still do not know why no code is thrown.
  10. Yea. i asked him when does he change fuel filters and he says " when it gets hard to start". Got to love them farmers. It is a 4wd desert truck with no rust. Needs a lot of TLC. I think his dad is going to give him his old 2013 with 130k on it.
  11. Working on a friends tail light problem. Get it fixed and the next day he starts for home and gets white smoke missing then dies. I am thinking the connector to the rear and also fuel pump in tank could be problem. This morning changed the fuel filter. Cracked the fuel line at the VP and hit the key. Tank in pump ran with pressure and fuel squirting from loose fitting. Has had eng light on for 6 months. Checked code using key sw. Got only P 1693 then P end code. Nothing else. Did it again got same thing?? I have a code reader. will it do any better? This is a farm truck running farm diesel from a bulk tank. No gauges! 3 prior VPs. Maybe 70,000 on this one. 475,000 on truck. I do not think working on lighting has anything to do with the present problem. ANY THOUGHTS??
  12. tried using schematic for 1999. Definately not the same.
  13. i didn't like the cheap gauge pods , so i made my own. 2 inch abs pipe for pods. Some cutting and shaping. Glued in post with 2 part epoxy like jb weld. Little black laquer paint. Gauges fit in snug.
  14. Mothers is what is used by truckers to polish out their aluminum wheels. I got some nasty stains on my 2nd gen wheels, possibly muratic acid. Mothers made them like new.
  15. I was totally off base. The wire i cut was the ground. The schematic really helped. The problem was all rear wiring had no ground. Bad connection at the connector. Put power to tail lights and every filament in the harness would light up. Established the ground and all is better. BUT, Fuse 1 (15amp) panel on left side of dash, (called marker fuse) feeds tail light circuit. With tail and markers on, i pull fuse 1 and they all stay on. I try the same thing on my truck. Turn on lights, pull fuse, lights stay on. How can this be? Answer is , i had the wrong schematic. Fuse 1 is not to tail lights.
  16. Ok 1oz per gallon. 8oz to cup. 3 cups to a 24 gallon fill up.
  17. Have a friend with a short in his tail light circuit. I isolated it to be forward of the connector near frame under drivers feet. Lots of wires there. Where do i find a schematic? The wire is a 14 ga black. I cut it prior to the connector. Spliced the wire going to the rear to a long lead and temporarily ran it to the left headlamp circuit breaker. Wire going forward has a dead short. Overhead council and dash lights are also dead.
  18. Guess i am cheap. McMaster-Carr industrial supply in SanteFe Springs CA ( on internet) Has a mechanical oil filled industrial pressure guage 0-30 for $35.00. I mounted it on the floor right forward of the 4wd shifter. 1/8 in fpt fitting on the back right through the floor and carpet. 1/4 in air brake tubing right to the VP inlet. Guage does not need to be watched constantly, right. If running at night i do need a flash light to check it. Cheap, easy and accurate. Visit Mc Master Carr, it is a great company that has everything and good quick service.
  19. Yep just five days since the last oil change.
  20. No external leaks found according to dodge dealer
  21. A friend has a 13 or 14 6.7. The engine oil disappeared. He has it serviced at Dodge every 3,000 miles. A red light may have come on but he being an old man he may have ignored it. Anyway Dodge said he needs a new engine and it will cost him $24,000. He said ok. I am sure this truck has under 100,000 miles on it. Anyone know of any internal problems that could eat all of his engine oil? My oldest dodge uses a gallon in 5,000 miles with 350K on the odometer.
  22. What is the procedure for tightening the valve cover bolts?
  23. My start in trucking was with the JT165 cummins in a 1947 Sterling. That is 165 hp pulling 79,000 lb over the grapevine and before most of the freeways in California. We have come a long way since then. That jeep in my avitar, when it was a new 4 cylinder,1947 was our tow vehicle. It was slow but it would drag them home in compound low if they broke.
