  1. Mopar tech , your spot on as to the Fleetguard LF 9028.
  2. Frantz has been around for years , I have known people who swear by them, known a few that swore at them. The ones that liked them either used the Frantz replacement ot used Scott as a refill. The one clear thing is bypass filters work, all oil filters are better now than when they were 1st invented. From personal use I think the Fleetguard LF 9028 is a great filter , testing now is ongoing (by me ) to see the better filtering (Fleetguard Stratapore vs Fleetguard Dual filter) I am now out to 35,000 miles (filters changed at 5,000 mile interval with a UOA at that time, oil still has not reached condemnation limit.
  3. Conoco Fleet 15W40 ? Really suprised , I would have thought you'd like the Hydro-Clear PowerD 15W40 .
  4. Ok , just a quick update , out to 35,000 miles still within limits , this is with standard stratapore filter , will now switch to the LF 9028 fleetguard (dual filter media) and will see in another 5,000 miles what the UOA shows..
  5. How many of you have heard of PQIA ? they have comparisons of current engine oils on their web site .
  6. That's the place ! Thanks for adding their link.
  7. There are so many ways , midstream sample (as i's changed) Thru a pre -installed sampling valve , suction line into sample cup .
  8. I have read about a fridge that used kerosene , sold by a store in Ohio, Lehmans is the name of the store , cater to Amish , Old Order Mennonite and sell alot to 3rd world countries , they have tried soy oil, olive oil with good results.
  9. Cheap ole Wal-mart ?? The base oil used by them is sourced from one of 3 companies in the U.S. making base oils XOM , COP , or CVX . Often I hear suprise at the performance of Super-Tech oil ,both car and diesel. Both of the blenders Wal-Mart uses are good companies (Warren & Citgo) at least I far as I know. Or.... gasp .... is it possible they are using base oil source from S.Korea a GRP III+ ? Just be happy at the performance for a true low cost oil.
  10. Now that you pic'd my interest , what oil filter are you using ? What change interval are you doing for oil filters ?
  11. So your old enough to remember the Phillps 66 T.V. add where the station owner used Trop-Artic to clean their hands too ?
  12. I heard it cured acne too , or is that a old wives tale ?
  13. I'd like to start a thread for the discussion of Motor Oil aka Engine Oil any other threads on the subject could be added to this area , possibly with a addition on Oil filters . As a retired oil man I still have access to much information and still enjoy reading and discussing the subject with others. Thoughts ? Comments ?
  14. I'd love to see the UOA's ! Many unbranded oils sold nation wide are repackaged Major brand oils , I know we sold lots to parts house private brand packager's.
  15. Ok , here is one place I will disagree , for the average person a syn-oil is the best choice , Why ? because the average person will NEVER check or add Diff oils to their vehicle. That being said either oil will work. I personally have run both with no difference in performance overall.
  16. If you have the new oil TBN and have a TBN test done on your UOA you can extroplate the acidity of the oil.
  17. Often times engines will use oil after changing brands, usually it difference in the additves in the oils . I'm wondering...... your still on the same oil ? ie. the oil change you first posted ?
  18. Yes a 10W30 diesel engine oil , per the owners manual 99 2500 it is a acceptable oil.
  19. You made a good choice in a oil , just so you all know I retired from the oil industry, I started with Skelly Oil Co. went thru the merger with Getty and made it thru the buy out by Texaco , finished out my time with Chevron , I too use Mobil oils though it is because it's easy to get and when I worked for Skelly we competed against them in the markets we were in , I know their products well they make a good oil both gas an diesel.
  20. Grease can be a problem , my thought was it a incompatability of grease, aluminium vs lithium ?
  21. When my son replaced the manual trans in his 2001 Dodge we used Mobil 1 5W30 , he has driven over 15,000 miles since with no problems.
  22. I seem to recall Cummins recommended a 60/40 mix of engine oil and STP , though it may have been for NHC/ NTC engines only.
  23. I was in Sam's club today and was suprized to see Delvac 1 LE 5w30 available , price was not bad either. $16.99 in gallons
  24. The bottom line is , it's a marketing ploy dreamed up by a advertising specialist.
  25. Happy Birthday America !!! Hard to believe 238 years old. Barely looks 200.
