Went to Pull and Pay this morning.  Found a 1998 2500 that someone had kindly pulled the caliper off, axle nut off, and all 4 unit bearing bolts off of.  Took me all of 10 minutes to pull the knuckle, paind the kind people $25 to take it home.

 

New ball joints are pressed in and I am getting ready to go out and put them on.  

 

 

I am still under the theory that my shake issue is tires though.  

 

Got my tires rotated and balanced and my vibration is gone. Still want to do the driveshaft just because it has so many miles on it.

I know where you are coming from. Just adding it to the want to list. Got some oil leaks ahead of that one.

Well no more shake.  Ended up have 2 completely trashed u joints in the rear shaft and 1 questionable u joint.  Who knows if the center support was bad but I replaced it too.

Good to hear. Did you use the oven trick on the carrier bearing? Whats the trick to getting it off?

A bfh to get it off.

 

Oven trick to get it on with some light taps to seat it.

@dripley Before you buy the new joints...  price out a one piece.  I was away from my tools and decided it was worth the extra cash to order a bolt on one piece.  Had i been home, i might have rebuilt it, but it was worth it at the time.

The joints are sitting in a box next to my chair. So I am pretty well committed to just building what is there.
