Replaced Driver's Seat Cushion

Recommended Posts

My original seat cushion was SHOT!  I've been wanting to replace this for some time, but I hesitated dropping the money on a cushion.  This was very simple to do and it only took 45 minutes from start to finish.

The bottom is easily removed with a 10mm socket, there are 4 bolts that are easily accessed from underneath the seat.

With the seat removed, the cover was removed by pulling the clips attached to the fabric that was secured to the metal frame.  The fabric cover is held onto the cushion with 2 Velcro strips and 3 hog rings.  The replacement cushion came with replacement hog rings.  The 4th picture is of the rings, sorry, I didn't realize it was so out of focus.

The hardest part was getting the clips back onto the metal frame.  The new cushion is stiffer and it takes a little more to compress it.  After that, it was just installing it in the truck with the 4 bolts.

It is different sitting in the drivers seat now, defiantly a recommended upgrade.

Got it from Geno's

I have seen quite a few different ones out but have not heard how the others are other than cheaper.

I just put in a new to me set of seats in mine. I had thru the drivers cushion, then passenger cushion. The seat back worn out too. These are great but drivers cushion is smashed a fair amount by the door. A new one would be nice.

I wished I would have done it earlier.  My old cushion was so smashed and sitting in it I leaned to the left.  After a long drive my back would hurt.  After putting in the replacement I had to reset all my mirrors.  For $125 it is a bit pricey but a huge improvement and nothing about the new cushion seems or feels cheep.

Looks awesome. I've been debating on getting a new cushion for the drivers side of my 2001 but was unsure of them. Guess I'll have to order one then find the heating element to get mine fixed up. I have OEM front heated leather.

I been looking at these too since the leather upholstery on the drivers seat has some wear but no tears.https://m.ebay.com/itm/2000-2001-Dodge-Ram-2500-SLT-Driver-Side-Bottom-Leather-Seat-Cover-DK-DARK-GRAY/332271460651?epid=1055312233&hash=item4d5cec212b:g:sqQAAOSwZQRYaBVe

I'm in the same boat as you except my seat has a small tear in it.  Not sure how the heated seats affect putting in new foam.

Most of the covers I have looked say they are compitable with heated, power or manual seats.

I bought the dark grey cover from Genos and the foam from US Seat covers.  Fairly easy job changing it out, but best to wear gloves as there are some sharp bits and edges.  I didn't have new hog rings so I undid and reused the old ones.  Long drives feel much better on my back.

I got one from geno's.  My actual seat cover had a hole and starting to grow.  So I took down to local auto upholstery that been in town for years and couple generations.  And I wanted to see if they could work some magic on the seat cover.  He took a look at cushion and compared it to what he gets.  He was very impressed with cushion.  He called geno's to find out more their cushions, thinking it was Genoa cushions or similar.  Geno,s said only have what's on their web site and not multitudes of cushions for various cars.  Geno,s told them its geno,s garage not geno,s cushions?

P.s. fixed my little tear but he said tear will start again in couple years of use.

Not sure how to link, but my seat foam was from usautoseatcover.com .  The foam cushions that are sold all look similar.  Probably a few makers ( if not one ) and many distributors.  Mine worked as advertised and was reasonable comparatively.

they have a few factory style covers also.  Depends on color.

I have seen the factory cloth covers at few places. $175 is the cheapest I have seen one. These folks offer the pair.

Thinking I might buy the Genos cover and cushion and use it, then stick back the one that came with my new to me seats for later.
