I made my own silencer for the BHAF and now the BHAF is much quieter inside and outside of the cab than the factory air filter box and filter.  I used a ribbed 3" perforated plastic drain pipe as the silencer.  I modified a piece of my son-in-law's exhaust pipe from an '06 truck to make an airtight connection.  I sealed the plastic pipe inside  the modified exhaust pipe piece.

 

The turbo whistle is completely gone now (the one sound I liked) and the exhaust brake is much quieter now. It is amazing how much sound is generated from the intake side of the engine.

Yes, the end of the perforated pipe is open and the opening is located about 2 inches from the inside of the blank end wall of the air filter.  This project is one of the many small things that I have done to incrementally make the engine quieter.

@Tractorman What would happen if a guy just threw a piece of that drain pipe inside and replaced the intake hose? Might need some sort of way to hold it in as the turbo might get some idea to suck it into the compressor.

Actually had a 2009 G8 GXP 6 speed manual for a bit. It was an expensive horse to keep in the stable and sucked in icy / snowy conditions so I sold it. 

 

The G6 we have now is pretty nice and has plenty of giddy up when the transmission works.

Has Ford figured out better fuel / water separation to keep the fuel system from rusting on the 6.7? I've done at least 5 fuel systems on the 6.7 engines in the past year because of rust in the high pressure fuel rails and injectors.

 

6.6 Duramax engines are in the same category as the Ford 6.4 and 6.7.

I didn’t know they made a 6 speed in the G8s was it a GT with the V8 LS motor? If not then they're is a world of difference. The GT is extremely powerful. 

 

I have not  done much work work on the 6.7L Powerstroke. Mainly 6.0 and 7.3. They’re pieces of trash. All of them but the new 6.7 and they have a lot of problems as well.

The GXP trim was the top of line for the G8. It has LS3 6.2L V8 that was said to have 415 horses under the hood. I'm not sure how many had manual transmissions but it was sure fun to drive.

 

When we're fixing Ford's we can always look the huge emblem in the grille and say at least they circled the problem for us and get a chuckle.

Or the glorious glow plug relay in the winter. I learned quick to keep one in the tool box. 14 years and 165k I never had a cam sensor issue on mine. Lucky I guess.
