Simplified high idle mod diagram

Recommended Posts

I had someone ask me to make a simplified version of Mike's high idle switches schematic. I know they can be a little confusing for those who don't do much electrical so I tried to make it as easy as possible.

This first picture shows how the switch works. It is very important to understand this first, by understanding it, you will know how all the rest has to work. All of the drawings of the switches are always in the same direction, so they all directly relate to the top of the picture.

This switch works by having 2 central contacts that close with the top or bottom contact.

Sorry about drawing it on paper, I know it's kinda cheap but paint wasn't giving me enough room

Here is his writeup to see the exact switches and everything he used, and more info. http://mopar.mopar1973man.com/cummins/2ndgen24v/high-idle/high-idle.htm

This is the switch and ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) fooler wiring.

This is for the other 2 switches that run the high idle and 3 cyl idle.

Please explain all the priciples of the high idle switch! This is new to me.

Really simple... first lets read the TSB... http://mopar.mopar1973man.com/cummins/2ndgen24v/high-idle/tsb18-019-01.htm So I got smart and figure out how to control the high idle by using toggle switches and a few resistors to fool the ECM into believing the engine is colder than it actual is causing the high idle or the 3 cylinder high idle to start. But there is the rest of the article... http://mopar.mopar1973man.com/cummins/2ndgen24v/high-idle/high-idle.htm
