Just think how much you could improve the mileage by selling it!16-17 is pretty good for a TBI 1/2 ton, don't think we ever broke 13 on our TBI 350 chevy.

Not a TBI... Its FI... I'm not the type to give up easy... I'm going to try and learn all the trick of the V8 gasser like I've been doing on the Cummins Diesel. If I'm capable of going from 16-17 Stock and reach all the way to 25 MPG (highmark) then I know I can do something with this gasser. It going to take time and study work to figure it out.

The 5.2 and 5.9s are EFI, they just have that TBI looking plate (resembling the TBI setup of the 5.7L GM.)Mike, I had 2 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltds, one with a 5.2L, the other with a 5.9L. Both were AWD, both with 44RE, and all the same options (other than c.i.d.) The 5.2 would get 13-14mpg/City, and ~21-22mpg highway. The 5.9L was just slightly less on the highway, but same in city.My dad's 4.7L, on it's best day (flat, Texas highways) @ 65mph is a steady 18-18.4mpg. 75mph, and that will drop to high 15s, low 16s.. Empty, mind you...

The 02 service manual still calls the 5.9 a Throttle Body motor, but I missed the 8 injectors vs 2 on a TBI engine.

Well I got some more to report... I packed up today and headed for Grangeville, ID to pick up engine oil, ATF, gear lube, etc. I had the ScanGauge II hooked up and monitored everything closly as I drove. From watching my instant MPG's I can hold about 16-17 MPG most of the time. By the time I was heading home I was bucking a mild head wind which kept me from gaining more on the way home so I got 15 MPG by the time I got home which isn't too bad for a poor weather day.

i had a 2001 1500 5.9 eclb 4x4 auto, i was lucky to get 15-16 in florida with most dense air. when i moved up to colorado....it sucked bawlz. so i traded it for something with a turbo... :D

Well after doing the plenum gaket and fixing some odds and ends so far I'm looking like I can reach 16-17 MPG on the ScanGauge II but with the weather being foul, cold, windy (head wind), etc. I only got 15 as of yesterday which I'm not crying about actually I'm quite please with it after looking back at some of the fuel history and some being as low as 10-11 MPG...
