Depends on how you go about doing it. The way I do it is to drop the pan and pull the filter then take the front cooler line off as this one is the hot line coming out of the converter. I then use compressed air and blew the oil out of the cooler circuit and then put a slight pressure on the fitting to push the oil out of the converter. I do this very gently as to not blow the seals out of the pump. Just a bit of air and hold it then a bit more, it can take a few minutes as you can push about 3-4 extra quarts out of the system this way.If going to a shop and having a tranny flush done with a machine it is bad because they do not take the tranny pan down and change the filter and clean the sludge from the magnet and pan nor do they do a band adjustment with this method. It is a bad method that does little good due to the lack of proper maintenance that needs to be done. It is no different than draining the engine oil and never changing the filter and never adjusting the valves.

I have read posts from transmission guys that a power flush is bad simply because all the dirt and metal filings get stirred up or broke loose. Which is bad for the trans because once they settle in you don't want all that stirred up. In another way it 'shocks' the transmission is the term one guy used. Lots of sensitive parts I guess. Another guy told me even between regular trans services it's good to just drain out a few qts. from time to time and add more. He said that's a very good thing.

gassernomore knows how to do the flush...i do it and i have told lots of folks how to do it and it works awesome...i do pan drop..new filter..adjust front and rear bands ..new ATF+4 every 20,000 miles..180,000 plus miles and never been out ,overhauled nothing.:thumbup2::thumbup2:

I suppose you could change the filter, flush it out then change the filter again. I need to do mine as well. And since its been a while, I might do it this way. clean filter for flush, flush the fluid and change the filter again that might have caught the stirred up dirt.

I do it like W&F except no air. Drop the pan, change filter, remove front line, fill fluid, turn vehicle on, watch fluid till it gets clear again, and refill the fluid till full, tighten front line. Overfill a couple of qts. at first so what goes out you will be close to "full" when you check it.

To do a good flush you would want to remove the rear "return" line then you would get all the oil out of the cooler circuit flushed out too.
