silencer ring

Recommended Posts

Small prying tool like a pick or screwdriver. It is held on with a snap ring in front of it. Remove snap ring and it falls off. Removing the silencer ring doesn't do anything for performance. It just makes the turbo audible, especially with a BHAF.

Ok. Just watched a video on YouTube how it's done, simple enough. Btw, what's BHAF?

What does it look like? I've never seen one? I guess it's on the intake side of the turbo?

Pull the intake tube off the turbo and look inside..

If it looks like this:

Then the silencer ring is still intact.

If it looks like this:

Then it had been removed.

Okay, apparently I missed Page 2 of this thread...

Bih honking air filter

I just checked it. It's been removed. Is it bad for the inside of my turbo to be covered in oil?

Yeah I have an S&B intake and filter. I guess I did put too much of that filter fluid on the filter. Should I clean it out? By a new filter? What's my best bet? The filter needs to be cleaned pretty soon anyways.

I'm really against any washable filter.

Everytime you wash the filter your breaking down the media. There is no way for the owner to know when the media has failed till there is dirt inside the turbo which is too late.

I totally agree BHAF is the best option and no chance of oil problems, media problems because a BHAF will last 100K miles of Idaho back country dirt roads. When it does get dirty throw it way and buy another filter. At $50 bucks a wack isn't bad for a filter that will last 100k miles.

Very good to know. I will get one ASAP. Does O'Reilly or NAPA carry them or will it have to be ordered online? And what about a pre filter?

I had a outerwears for about 6 months and got tired of it really quick and chuck it in the trash. My 1st BHAF lasted for 135K miles and 7 years without much problem even with all the Idaho dirt roads I travel. 2nd filter barely had 24K on it and changed it because I didn't want to take chances with my new turbo of any debris being in the old BHAF. 3rd Filter is on and less than 1K miles on it.
