Steering Box

Recommended Posts

My oem has the slop going on. I've read mixed reviews about the borgeson box, the napa box, and don't know much about the redhead box. Point me in the right direction, if I'm going to give up a day of fishing for the swap I do not want to do it again 6 months later.Luke

I put a NAPA box on mine a couple of years ago and it is still doing fine. I have heard about how poor the NAPA boxes are, but with a lifetime warranty and local availability (along with the price) it was an easy choice for me.

387, I upgraded to Redhead Bx and a napa steer pump. NOW if you want the gear Bx of your choice to preform even better, go to this site, redneck ram, then to tech section, upgrade steering. Gives a nice LITE touch to that new steering Bx. So far over a year out on box, pump with mod and all well. I went ahead and rebuilt the vac pump since it came off with the pump. Hope this helps Dave

PS pump mod this Wk when I get the truck back from Tranny shop. I fried the 47RE last week comming back from MS. took out the tork converter, cluches on 3&4 and fried the OD one way roller bearing strag. Oh spun bearing in rear drum.I know you would app. this with all the tranny trouble youve had. My rebuild should hold 1000lb/torq & 600/Hp. cant wait to spin the dullys.

I did this upgrade from Red neck ram many years ago on my 02 after installing my heavy ranch hand bumper and it worked awesome with no issues, I ran it with a 3.3 turn gear box which was the best money I ever spent on the rig. What ever you do make sure it is a 3.3 turn box I think Borgeson is the only company that makes one for the 2nd gens now, ditch the 4.5 turn, I spent money on every steering upgrade there was and most were a waste of time and money versus the 3.3 box hands down period.:smart:

i put on a BD steering box brace when i changed the OE out due to slop. i really wanted a 3.3 box but went with an o'riely's replacement because money was very tight @ the time. not to mention that i could replace it same day with the lifetime warranty(those stores are on every other corner around here). it drove like a sports car for about 6 months and then the slop slowly returned. i haven't changed it cause i lost all my tools in the divorce but it needs it badly....i guess it has been 3 yrs since i installed it....
