3rd Generation Dodge

This is a discussion forum of the 2003 to 2009 3rd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L and 6.7L Common Rail Cummins Turbo Diesel power train and drive line system.

  1. Started by Collinst15,

Good morning everyone, Been gone from the forum for just over a year. Life got crazy busy (moved from NY to TN recently). Looking to get back into a Cummins powered truck. I know truck prices are high right now, but my 04 GMC 6.0 is a gas pig and has no power compared to my old 99 24v. Did some research online, but I'd figured I'd ask the best forum for advice on a 3rd gen. Which year is better?? Looking to get a 2003-07.5 5.9l. Looking forward to being apart of the diesel world again. Tim

  3. So lets start with the code I know its not list here. The P0243 code is a wastegate solenoid issue. Either there is no +12V power or no control from the ECM on the ground side. Now I can say that this wiring diagram is not very helpful at all. The wire colors are wrong here too. The plug at the solenoid is Dark Blue (ground to ECM) then there is pink/yellow. Then tracing back from the solenoid I do have continuity from the pink/yellow to the C130 connector. At this point the wire swaps to red/orange color heading to the TIPM. Now that red/orange wire now there is two connectors in the TIPM that have this red/orange colored wire going to the module. One …

Wondering if it isn't the EGR cooler. Started the truck up the other day, park brake on, hit the cruise, then set.. idled up to 1200, EB on, I let it warm about 5 mins (was 19F out). Came out to get in it, and saw a puddle of coolant toward the RR of the engine... chased it down, it appeared to be the fitting where the EGR cooler hose hooks to the vertical steel nipple out of the head (just forward of the heater port).. Drove down to Auto Zone for a jug of coolant, left it running, no high idle, no EB on.. came out, no drips. Topped off the overflow jug and monitored the truck the rest of the day for leaks; none found. The next morning, I did the…

  5. . I went to get in the truck a little bit ago. Opened the door, the dome lights came on for a sec, then blinked, then went off.. Then I noticed the cargo light wouldn't work, either. Push the button, the cargo indicator on the cluster illuminates, but no cargo light... FSM shows these are triggered by the cluster?? OMFG, I'm so blind. There's a fuse #35,. CCNI

I'm attempting to use a 05-06 pedal mounted APPS. I bought the Timbo Kit and have it wired directly to the ECM. This is the wiring diagram I came up with: APPS Position Description ECM Location #1 5 Volt Supply #33 (ECM C2) #2 APPS 2 Signal #16 (ECM C1) #3 APPS 2 Return #48 (ECM C2) #4 APPS 1 Return #33 (ECM C1) #5 APPS 1 Signal #14 (ECM C1) #6 5 Volt Supply #42 (ECM C1) However I am getting P2121 & P2128 I have tried two different pedal apps assemblies (APS312) I h…

Dropped on a set of brake calipers for a 3rd gen both fronts and rears to rebuild, they were is a sorry state but £10 for all 4 is ok. Pistons were well and truely seized, tried a few things to get them out, wouldn't budge using compressed air so settled on a 24mm metric coarse taper tap which taps into the piston end just nice, a 24mm nut screwed onto the tap before turning it into the piston gives a nice flat surface to lever against, this pulled all 8 out, if this would have failed I was going to machine a tube to sit over the piston and a big washer and use the nut and tap to pull the pistons out... didn't need to in the end I found it best to leave the stee…

  10. Started by Mopar1973Man,

Finally getting around to doing repairs on my own stuff rather than everyone's else vehicles. The previous owner of Thor just hacked up the tail light wiring and made a huge mess out of it. So I went out and order a weather-tight 7 terminal bus bar box. That way all the hitch connectors and the tail light wiring have a place to be without just be hanging under the bed as a knot of butt splices. The interesting part of the 3rd Gen bodies and electrical it is way over wired for the rear. Basically, there are two sets of wiring trailer/tow is one set with solid colors like green, yellow and brown. Then the body electrical is white stripped something. Dodge managed to do ever…

  11. Started by Mopar1973Man,

Well I've got to tell a tale of what has happened to Thor. Back during the summer I had drove through a open field and managed to gather up a roll of barbed wire around the axle. Then when I went in for new tires the gorilla lugs I had on the 18 wheels well they managed to break off two studs on each side of the rear axle. Now getting around to the actually repair of the damages... So started on the passenger side and pulled the tire off and found the caliper slide bolt was bent from the barbed wire event. This in turn now wiped out the inner brake pad and then ate the inside face of the rotor. Ok stop and order new brakes and rotor for the passenger side. Pa…

  12. Started by Mopar1973Man,

Well Thor yesterday started to buck once in a awhile and trip a few codes. P2509 - Power down Data Lost Error P0088 - Fuel Rail Pressure Signal Is Above Maximum Limit P0243 - Turbo Boost Wastegate Solenoid So this what I figured out. The P2509 code is triggering the P0088 when the power drop the pressure solenoid on the CP3 maxes out when the loss of power and then when the power returns it sensed but drops quick back to normal. Now I've gotta figure out the power issue for the P2509 code. As for the wastegate code I've gotta do a ohm test from the wastegate solenoid to the ECM. It a brand new wastegate solenoid I bought fr…

  13. I just stuck gauges in my 07.5 DRW. I noticed on flattish ground at 70mph, 6th gear (G56) I'm at 2150-2200 (3.73) RPM, 900-1100*F, and about 16-18k RP. Boost is zero.. In my old '96, it'd carry about 6-8psi, and about 750-900F EGTs.. Is this normal for a 6.7? No boost, and EGTs that high? It's all stock. Thanks.

  14. I have a 2004 Dodge ram 2500 4x4. It has a new power steering pump for a 2008 dodge ram 2500. My issue now is that it has no power steering assist when turning left. If i turn right i have zero issues but as soon as i go left i have no assist what so ever. Im also not having any issues with my hydrobooster which is only 6 months old. Im thinking steering gearbox control valve is not functioning when I go left and thats why I dont get any assist. Only want to ask before installing a redhead.

  16. Started by Jeff Eady,

Hey guys, I recently bought a 2008 Dodge 3500 6.7 4x4 6 speed. The truck is bone stock with 158k. Just wondering your thoughts on deleting and tuning the truck. I have done a little research and I'm not sure if I can even purchase the parts to do it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

  17. Started by Mopar1973Man,

Well my first relaxed trip to Caldwell ID. I know the odometer is off and speedometer is off by about -3 to what is actual speed. Now that being said I know its 125 miles from home to Ontario. Now I filled in Riggins ID that's adds on another 15 miles. From Riggins to Ontario showed 123 miles. The odometer is slow too. All from the 285 tires. All that said I've hit 21.0 MPG which would actually be higher if the odometer wasn't slow. The other thing I'm pretty sure this truck is 3.73 gears which with the 285s I'm running the RPMs are roughly the same as my 2002 with 3.55 gears and 245s tires. This combo seems to be great for towing weight.

  18. I've got a client up in McCall nice looking 2005 Dodge Ram but steering is pretty poor. I've done the first step of pulling the steering box and sending it off to @Blue-Top Steering and had him rebuild it completely. Then I asked the owner to pick out a brace for the steering box. This truck came to me with some serious steering slop. The steering box was leaking both the input and output shaft seals. Here we go, look for that Blue Top box peaking out... Take notice there is a gap to the pitman arm and the body. Look closer you see I had to heat it up and wedge it off the old box. Some nit wit ran the nut in with a impact and crushed the arm to th…

  19. Started by Rogan,

I noticed this morning (we had some pretty decent rain yesterday from Ida) that 3/5 of my cab lights are holding about 3/8" of water.. I ASSUME this is coming in through the screw holes, since there are no cracks/etc in the lenses. Is there an availability of small screw washers/seals out there somewhere that you may know of (short of some clear silicone or something)? I don't want this to create bigger problems in the near future. Thx

  20. Started by Mopar1973Man,

Well I've been busy doing a side job with my crew. This property is owned by one of my crew. He's got a bunch of old cars we've been moving and clearing the land after his house fire. Well after long day I unhitched from my boss'es goose neck trailer (Big Tex dump bed) which we thought we would use for moving small material. When I left I had to travel over to the dirt track we were using and back out to the main road. In that little bit of time I must of picked up a roll of barbed wire. Windows were rolled up and A/C on. I never heard a single thing. BOOM! I'm made it about 40 miles before it blew the tire... Yup a massiv…
