OK so I understand that high rail pressure means the engine is not under load requiring huge amounts of fuel, add that to rpms, plus mph at any given time equates to xx.x mpg per the algorithem in the ECM.But high did it get 4mpg off? I've been zeroing it out at fill up and it seems to be doing better. I'll be checking it in the next day or so by hand calculation when I fill up. My hand calculations have shown so far that I'm getting just over 18mpg running 75-80mph and a bit over 14 when towing the goose neck 65-70mph, with some local running around thrown in to skew the numbers a bit. But still not bad IMO. But how can the lie-o-meter say I'm getting 18-22mpg when I'm g…

Hi all,I have an '06 2500 w/5.9L manual trans and just over 106,000 miles. I've owned this truck about 6 months now. When it's dead cold, it seems to always start just fine. However, after I've driven it, if I stop and get back in, it sometimes seems to crank forever before starting. Thus far I have had a local dealer do the oil/filter changes. It is currently due (including fuel filter).I've searched here and read about possible injector problems, and read on other forums about something as simple as o-rings on the fuel lines - both allowing bleeding down of pressure. If those are possibilities in my case, I'm curious why it seems to start fine when cold. Thanks for…

I have come upon an '05 3500 Quad Cab 4x4 with the 5.9 and 48re auto for sale. It wears the Laramie badge and has the navigation radio set up. The owner has moved to Hawaii and left the truck behind for relatives to sell.It looks really clean and has no accident history. It has had a total of two previous owners making me the third if I purchase it.It is just at 90k on the clock. I have driven it and it runs really good and goes like crazy. It has the HO engine and everything is stock expect the tires. The owner is running 285's instead of the stock 265's.There is one problem that I have identifed on this unit. The seat heaters don't work but everything else seems t…

Hi folks I am new to the forum. I am a contractor by trade. I can build you just about anything from the ground up. When it comes to vehicles particulary diesel my knowledge is limited. That being said I have a 2005 Ram 2500 and she is acting up. Over the past few weeks from idle to 1500 rpm the truck sputters, vibrates and just runs like crap in general. The truck also acts like the cruise control is set sometimes the throttle won't back down for a good 30 seconds. I will be sitting at a light, motor running at 1500 rpm holding the brake down so she won't take off. I did an oil change, I changed the fuel filter and made sure air filter was good. On a side note an…

Changed the fluid in my 11.5 rear end and used Mobil 1 Full syn. 75w-90. I have since read that the AAM rear end may call for something different. Manual calls for GL-5 syn. I believe. Mopar's fluid says for use in AAM axels. Is this marketing hype or legidement need?

What a pain in the butt. Those hose clamps from H E double hockey sticks, wore me out. The top ones weren't so bad. The bottom ones especially the one on the block are shear madness. Finally took the one on the block and gave it a good fling, and replaced it with the screw type clamp. To add insult to injury after getting it back together, it took along time to get the check engine light to go off. Glad I did the work after the fact, as the PO had used green antifreeze in it at some point ( I just bought it a month ago). The temp gage works better now as well ( is warm faster). So far I've changed the oil and filter, fuel filter, tranmission fluid and filter and changed the…

I see in the service manual that it was possible to get an Allison transmission behind the CTD in a Dodge. Was this available for 2500 and up, or was it for the 4500-5500 series? Was it a 4 or 5 spd.?

I decided yesterday to do some over looked maintenance. I changed both diffs and the transfer case. Let me tell you it was worth it, 114k and apparently the previous owner never changed them. Now I just need to do the power steering since it always gets over looked:smart:

I hope this is the forum to through this. I have a friend in California with a 2005 Dodge and was thinking of using the 2 Stroke Oil in his diesel. But he threw this question at me ... "With all the State of California smogs for and the fines they LOVE to through out, what has been the problems with using 2 stroke oil in the diesel ?"I'm in a non-smog county and don't know what to say. Actually I now don't care what the State of California wants, but he is my friend. Anyone in a smog testing area that can answer this ?

I was reading in the articles about testing the instrument cluster and it says to refer to the Failure Message Chart but there isnt a chart anywhere I could find over there. Anyways I searched the internet and I found several charts but none of the codes on these charts were similar to what I showed. When I turn my key on I get "5 127" ". 285" "C 447" These numbers cycle through 4 times at approximately 3 seconds intervals each and then ends with "5 127" cycling a fifth time before it goes back to my mileage. The entire time these numbers are cycling through my gauges are moving through their test points, from what I read each one is stoping in the correct locati…

Sorry for the crappy video but it at least has good sound. If you cant tell I am recording this from the intake tube off of the stock air box. The noise I am refering to is the repetitive thumping noise. At idle I can hear it inside the cab but I dont notice it driving down the road. I just got this truck and I dont know a whole lot about diesels although I know my way around a gasoline engine pretty well. Is this a normal noise and I'm just being overly worried about the truck i just bought or is all hell about to break lose? http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v362/joepinder/?action=view¤t=IMG_0200.mp4

My dome light in back seat flickers or you could call it fading in and out when the door is open or turning on the interior light. The overhead light is just fine, I dont have a clue, it's been doing this for a good while.
