Ok gang I know a lot of you wanted to see 3rd Gen articles and action in the 3rd Gen category. Here we go I'm going to start on Thor and getting it fixed up like Beast is making it a good economy shop vehicle with good pulling power. I've got a oil leak on the engine some where so I've got to power wash and hunt that leak down and deal with. I'm going to need a full 4" exhaust system most likely do muffled. I'm going to look into a Cold Air Intake and quality air filter that isn't going to pass dust and dirt being I'm still going to have to roll the dirt roads out here. I've got interior work being the driver seat is blown and the foam is gone on the outsider edge. Thor i…

My truck has started burning a lot of oil and I have enough blow-by out of the blow-down tube that the underside of the truck is showing oil residue about 1/2 way back.I have parked the truck because I fear the worst that I may have a crack ring or something.BTW, the oil consuption went way up, like a gallon every 1,500 - 2,000 miles.I don't abuse the truck but did have a programmer on it that I have since removed. Also this is my 3rd Cummins Ram and the only one that has ever had an engine problem (130,000 miles). Anyone seen or heard of this before? Thanks!

2005 Ram 2500 Begining to hard start. Overnight seems to be the worst. Died once. No codes. Fuel filter recently changed. Boss thinks its the injectors because the same thing happened to a friend of his. Wants me to change them. Never done it before. [He thinks it should be like changing sparkplugs] How big a job is it? Do you need special tools? Looking for a manual. Is the "2005-DodgeFSM.Zip " a service manual? Not sure if I can open the file, haven't tried yet. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Rob

Having an interesting issue with my truck. Trying to load the engine under approx. 1K rpm, it starts to shudder, pedal goes dead, or at least no affect on the engine, real rough idle which drops to about 5-600rpm. Itll catch itself and jump up to a return idle. If I baby it and keep the rpms > 1K not to much an issue. Just for increased clutch wear. Doing some research, I unlugged the fca, Had bad fuel knock. However it didn't do it Only tried it three times. Does this make sense? Still might not be the FCA. Any way to troubleshoot it? I hate just throwing parts at it. I have a buddy with an 03 and his injectors are dying. He is looking for a good place to buy some injectors that won't destroy the bank. I told him about DAP, but we aren't sure just how good they are. Has anyone ever run DAP common rail injectors? Are they reliably and high quality? I know my 100hp 24V injectors are great, he just wants some reassurance. Thanks in advance!

Wondering if any of you out there could assist with handling this topic, I am very pleased with the modifications I have done thus far and just trying to finish the upgrades with focus on getting more fuel efficiency out of the vehicle. Vehicle Current State: 2006 Dodge 5.9 2500 Mega Cab Edge CTS Tuner - Low Boost Setting on 1 4" Exhaust from Turbo back with 36" resonator Stock Wheels and Tires Stock Airbox - This should be good to 450 Raw HP Currently we are doing heavy amounts of traveling with a 9.5 foot Cab Over Camper and 4 Place snowmobile trailer through pretty mountainous terrain. All the infrastructure is in place to handle these items from a airb…

So there was a truck in the shop this weekend and came in with a check engine light on with a P2262 code. Dodge dealer told the owner it was going to cost $2800 to fix due to he needed a new turbo. During inspection of the turbo and its functions( after draining the coolant) and removing the actuator from the side of the turbo we noticed that the lever actuator would only move about half way between open and closed. I removed the turbo and dissembled it into the 3 main pieces exhaust housing - cartridge - boost housing. When separating the cartridge from the exhaust housing I had to use 2 pry bars to separate the 2 pieces after looking at the VGT slide part I realized tha…

This issue has been showing itself since early fall when temps were only in the 40's & 50's Farenheit overnight. What happens is this: I start the truck (early 04 5.9, stickshift QCLB) and it will bring itself up to idle. Then there's a slight stumble that you can hear chug like once. The RPM drops below 500 for a second and then it recovers itself back up to about 750 or 800 rpm. A minute or so later, there's a larger & more noticeable skip and it'll almost choke itself out and then it'll recover back up to 900rpm and there's a huge puff of black out the exhaust. If it stumbles bad enough, it won't recover & then stalls. It'll start right back up no prob…

Backing into a parking spot I heard a clunk. After looking around I see the tierod hanging down. I was just traveling 70 mph not 1/2 mile before this happened. Not in a good mood. I can not afford this type of brake down right now, my OCD won't let me just replace the broken one, I'll have to do them all. How n why this broke I haven't a clue. It's a totally stock truck no oversized tires no real off road driving maybe a few miles on a gravel road a few times a year.

I have heard that idleing you truck for extended periods is bad?? Well, I have a unique problem in that I work only about a half mile from where I live.. Morning temps are droping into the teens, and soon single digits. I normally go out and strart the truck and let it run for about 15 mins, drive to work, and then let it run at least another 10 before I shut it off and go in... The high idle stays engaged most of the time.. about 1050-1100 rpm Which is worse,, start it up cold, and shut it down cold? or let it warm up as much as possible?

I am considering going to 19.5s on my 3rd gen 3500 4x4. Looking for higher weight carrying capacity than I can get in the 17" wheel and tire combo. I am currently running Michelin LTX 2 and am very pleased with the traction I get in wet, snow and ice and am very concerned in finding something in a 19.5 traction tire that will at least provide a reasonable amount of traction. I am thinking I need an open shoulder style rather than a closed shoulder style.I am considering the Vision 81 machined aluminum wheel which is rated for 5k pounds. Looking at several brands of tires (Double Coin RLB1, Cooper Roadmaster rm253, Toyo 608, Yokahama TY303, Hankook DH01) to name a few o…
