Took a run up to deer camp today and when I slowed down my truck sounded like a bunch of tree frogs chirping.I popped the hood but couldn't really tell where the noise was coming from. When I left a few hours later and the truck had cooled down it sounded normal. When I turned down my road it was chirping again, must just be when it heats up it chirps. After it cooled down at home I took the belt off and checked everything out. Everything seemed tight and felt good when spinning it around except the water pump.It doesn't leak nor am I loosing fluid but it has a little "wiggle" to it when moving it up or down. When you spin it doesn't have any drag or noise to it.What do you…

so i just had the local highly recommended tranny guy rebuild my burnt toasted transmission.first thing, the starter sounds different. do these use shims like the old Chevy's? sounds like its meshing to tight. or something. is this easy to adjust?second. when in gear pushing the pedal the first say 1/4-1/2 inch is really stiff. then it loosens up as it used to be. but only while in gear, R-N-D. not so in park. might this be the "shift kit" that was installed. when in park, no issues pedal is smooth and easy as can be. just how firm do you with auto's shift? i was expecting to feel a difference after the hyped up parts list. but don't feel different to me. mu shutter in lo…

I have gone over every single ground and have done every test in the world on this truck! I am getting the peek-a-boo instrument cluster, it will work, then it won't(No bus) and I am at a loss! I even took the time to remove the ECM and clean all the contacts and scrub the ground points on the block behind it,by the way guys, not a bad idea to do that on high mileage trucks when you change your fuel filter you can get to the ECM really easily and mine had that white build up on it. Anyhow, the codes I get when the dash dies are.......900920921940950999I did the self check on the cluster and ALL the lights work. I also did the PCM connections including the white, square com …

As the title states my truck won't turn over at times as in starter won't even attempt to spin, when its happened with me I let the clutch out and push it all the way in again and we crank right up. I'm thinking/hoping that I'm getting a bad connection on the sensor that tells the computer the clutch is engaged and it's safe to start. Just want to poll the audience and make sure I'm not missing something or this is symptoms of a bigger issue. My main issue with it right now is the wife used her jeep to do some deer hunting and it's in the shop till Friday and I head out of town for work tomorrow, so if its a bigger issue, then I want to get it resolved before I leave. No …

Well after 190k mile's nearly 170k with a fifthwheel behind it my stock clutch died last monday. After i vacumed the inside, cleaned with wipe's, washed the truck, hand dried it, waxed it, and went for a sunday drive down by the river got to the bridge before the turn gearded down to 3rd and hit the clutch to downshift to second pedal went to the floor.... had to ride 3rd gear for about a mile till i could safely pull over. After a few not PG-13 word's and praying i called for some help home. I was gonna haul it but, my angry was alittle high had to start the truck in gear and just speed shifted it home (Not a good idea but i was that mad) lol So i contacted thoroughbred …

  9. I have a 1999 Dodge 2500 Cummins with a cracked manifold that is long overdue for replacement. I bought a slightly used manifold from Drag Racer that is in new condition. I used to be a good mechanic meaning I would always get job done and back together without any parts laying around. I am not in good phyical shape and have issues getting up and down so if anyone has done this and could share with me where you started and especially what you did from the bottom side it would save me several moves getting under my truck and what can be left in place. I am concerned that I might have to break it lose from the exhaust pipe or will I be able to just take the manifold apart f…

I have a AirDog on my 2001 and today realized that I don't hear it running when I first key on. I checked and it is getting power. I can feel it vibrating when the truck was running but can't hear anything from it. Regrettably my fuel pressure gauge isn't working, and I've been to lazy to replace it. Does anyone else have one running that quiet? Figure with not have the fuel pressure I'm kind of in a guessing game. Think I may be best off not running her until I replace the gauge. Also if the AirDog is out, is the VP44 strong enough to pull the fuel from the tank, and through the AirDog?

02 3500 qc 6 speed dana 80.The factory detail sheet for my truck says my dana 80 is 3.55. In 5th gear truck maxes out at the tach redline just above 70 mph. I havent yet tried max top speed in 6th gear.Question for you guys running a 6 speed with 4.11's. What is your top speed in 5th gear? I'm actually curious if previous owners may have swapped in 4.11 gears on my axle. I've never driven both ratios side by side so I'm curious to know the actual difference.Or how about anyone running a confirmed 3.55? Tops speed in 5th?For one thing it's amazing to me that I can putz around town doing 35mph in 5th gear no problem without lugging/shuddering.Thanks

This might be a great test of the "There are no stupid questions" rule...but I have to ask.For those of you that have manual transmission, which gear to you start out in when under no real load? I've heard of people doing starting our in 1st and others starting out in 2nd but I would rather hear people's thoughts and get more of an understanding rather than burn up a clutch earlier than normal. Thanks for the input.

  15. SO it seems to be one thing after another with this truck. First the batteries kept going dead due to a grid heater solenoid sticking open, then my fuel pump went, now my trans wont shift out of neutral. All in about a 3 week span.I just finished installing my new AirDog II, bled the system and fired the truck up. Went to put it in reverse, heard the engine load down like it normally does but nothing happen. Went back to park and heard a slight grinding. Put it in drive, same thing, I hear the load but no movement. Put it back in park and a lot of grinding, had to move back to reverse then park top make it stop. Turned the truck off, I can roll the truck in any gear, Pa…

I installed a FASS system (see my sig) on the weekend as per instructions except that I installed the supply to the stock filter housing (with gutted filter) to maintain my heater & pressure sensor. The other supply end connected to the stock sending unit and power directly to the battery. It did quiet down the engine a bit, less rattle.I have a small marshal 15psi mech. pressure gauge attached to the stock filter housing with a snubber. Before the install I saw 7psi @ idle with a slight drop @ wot, after the FASS install, I'm seeing only 10.8 or 11psi. I expected the advertised 16psi or at least 14. Has anyone else seen numbers this low after install? I haven't conta…

  17. I am stuck trying to figure out which one to get for my truck.. I have read and read. all I hear is bad things about the Raptor pumps, I have read bad things about the FASS direct replacement pump, I have read good and bad about the Fuel Boss, I haven't heard anything about the BD lift pump, but they don't even have a good description about their own pump. I am looking to do this in a costly manor. I cant throw down the coin for the fuel boss. don't know which way to do with this. I know I am bringing up a topic that has been brought up and talked about over and over. I just know that I don't know the condition of my factory lift pump. or when it has been replaced.. I am…

  18. I have an 01" qcsb. Since almost a year ago, every time I pull my camper down the interstate, I will loose first gear. Now, I do tow in overdrive, camper only weighs 5k. I am thinking when the governor sensor blows, is when it downshifts into third. I have changed the sensor three times myself, along with the governor transducer. After the third time I dropped it off at the dealer, didn't have the time or patience to look at it again. They changed the solenoid under warranty twice, the second time they changed the overdrive solenoid I believe? Which included a harness that plugs into the governor solenoid that keeps going. So basically, the governor solenoid has been chan…

Newby here again. This site is awesome, thanks again guys!:thumb1:I have a buddy that is trying to sell a 12v with about 175,000 miles on it, and with all the trouble I seem to be having with my 24v he mentioned that maybe I should just swap them out. How big of a project would this be?Is it even a smart move? I would really like to get the 24v going just for the education but I really need to get this truck on the road soon. I have to let go of my Toyota soon and need this truck running before I can do that.
