So I'm building my nv4500 finely but am courious what sealer works best for the tail housing and the top cover and input shaft housing

  2. Started by stevens cummins,

I picked up a nv4500 for a great price but the guy kept the square to top cover and trans came with a early style with the intergrated shifter stub, my question is can the internals out of the top be swaped in to a square top

I thought that I would post a thread just in case anyone ran into the same thing I did. Last week my wife drove my truck to an appointment while I was away on a business trip. She called and said that the truck was stuck in 4th gear and she couldn't get it out. Since I was 4 hours out there was not much I could do. Luckily she kept her cool and got it off of the interstate and into a hotel parking lot. When I got there, I just assumed that it was jammed somehow. No manner of pulling or pushing would free it up. I drove it home in 4th by shifting from 4L to 4H on the transfer case. Pulled the shift tower off to take a look. Apparently the shift tower had worn to the point…

Hello all, this is my first post here on the forum. I've scoured this forum as well as a few others for existing diagnosis and can't seem to find a sure answer for my problem. I just purchased a 2000 Dodge 2500 24V that has had a NV4500 swapped in. Everything, but the cruise control, functions as it should, however, the check engine light is on due to the PCM still searching for the Auto tranny. Being that it won't pass CA emissions testing with the engine light I could greatly use help determining the simplest solution to my problem. I do have a Smarty programmer for the truck and the PO tried their "manual recovery" software to no avail...apparently he was told this onl…

I installed some coolers from Genos garage. Now days there are a couple options, one is Fast Cooler that is a spacer that uses your original PTO cover, and the other is by Trans Cooler that is one piece and has fins inside. The fast cooler gives you 2 quarts extra when you install both and the Trans Cool only gives you 1 extra quart because of the fins inside taking up space that could be oil. I choose the Trans-cool version for 2 reason: 1: only one gasket to leak from instead of 2 per cooler. And 2: I thought the concept of having heat sinks inside may pull more heat to the outside. Who knows if it will and I might have burned myself out of an extra quart of cooling. Be…

This weekend I'm pulling out my god forsaken NV4500 and putting in a 5600. I have not for the life of me been able to confirm or deny if I'll also need to swap PCMs. My thinking is no but that answer is pulled completely from my arse. Both trucks and all parts are 2001s. I'm over here with random forum print outs and the full stack of FSMs like a mad man with no answer lol.

Ok guys as some know I had to install a re man nv5600 last October, just recently I have a issue with 4th popping out randomly, excessive noise in neutral with the clutch relieced, a small thunk when changing gears, and now the out put seal between the trans and transfer case is leaking, does t th is sound like a major failure conning on in the trans

So guys I apologize if I already asked this but I looked through my post and can't see that I did. I know where there's a 2001 HO with a 6 spd for sale but it's 2 wheel drive. What is the big difference between the 2 and 4 wheel drive in regards to the 6 spd. I'm having a brain wave of buying the truck and parting it out , selling the engine and rest of the stuff off the truck and keeping the 6 spd for a spare or parts for mine. Not sure how much the engine would be worth, 355 km on it but still running decent form what i'm being told.

  10. Time to change out the fluid before our heavy fall towing season. This trans was rebuild 3 years ago, and had the oil fill plug moved up on the case for overfilling capability. Dodge dealer installed the trans for me (they didn't rebuild it, just r and r'd it). I assumed they used the correct fluid at the time. This trans still has the 1.25 input shaft, so probably has the composite syncro rings, not the brass. Does the composite rings demand Chryslers spec oil? I've read a bazillion posts with many recipes for various blends of engine oil, synthetic trans fluid, ATF, and straight syncro …

Fellas, what do you think a 5600 6 spd out of an 01 4X4 would be worth for parts? Supposedley the complete transmission minus the 1 3/8 shaft. Story i'm getting is they parted the tranny so they could get the big shaft vs the small one they currently had. Only issue I have with that story is going from the 1 1/4 to the 1 3/8, wouldn't everything else be different inside?

I have a 99 that the auto took a dump. Got a really good deal on a NV5600 out of an '02. Hooking stuff up and noticed there is no provision for speed sense on the trans. Where does the 2002 get is speed sense from? Am I screwed with no speedo?

anybody ever see or have these installed? http://www.ebay.com/itm/271635496536?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&fromMakeTrack=true Gearing up (ha ha) to start the freshening of my nv5600 for the project truck... and stumbled across these heavier than oem springs for the synchronizer rings. Supposed to make the rings more aggressive at speeding up or slowing down the required gear for engagement. Seems like when you 'add' pressure in a certain spot, problems could surface elsewhere.. I think this would be good for the speed shifting crowd, and when shifted 'normally'.. could help add life to these very expensive rings..

Becareful who you let build your nv5600 sence mine failed I've manage to get it pulled out, had metal in the oil, pulled the tail housing and found that unit was built with worn out parts, the main shaft nut was put on with a chisel and almost broked and not tight, this unit came from cummins performance parts i got took dont let this happen to you

Hi Folks, I want to preface this by saying I searched this site and many others without finding satisfactory answers. The issue is that my clutch does not appear to be disengaging when I depress the pedal. The symptoms began yesterday with a sporadic increase in effort to get it into gear when shifting. Today, over the period of about an hour of mostly easy highway driving with a few of stops, the symptoms persisted and worsened until the clutch would no longer release and I had to start the truck in gear to get moving and float gears to shift to get the truck home. What was weird to me is that it was inconsistent in the behavior, mostly the clutch…

Well guys, it’s time to change the clutch in my 02 with 103k on it. It held all last summer until I got it to slip up hill in 6th with the quad on level 6. This truck is a summer driver/toy that I plan on building to around 500-550 hp. My brother has an 01 with this clutch https://www.dieselautopower.com/1999-2005-cummins-nv5600-13-x-1-375-single-disc-performance-replacement-ceramic that I’m also considering. However, i’ve read that a factory replacement pilot bushing may be a better option than the bearing. I’d hate to have the bearing fail and pull the trans again. Thoughts on this? Also as far as the flywheel goes, would my best option be to just get it resurfaced? Fir…

  17. So along with re building my trans and t-case it was obvious that I needed to check to clutch out for wear and all that good stuff. So I did just that today. Snapped some pics to show yall. I have never had a sintered iron or competition clutch so I hope yall have some input.

So I have searched here after reading an article on CF about fluid to use in the NV5600. Some say Pennzoil, Amsoil, OEM..etc. First off, is the Syncromesh transission fliud made for the GM brand the same stuff reccomended for this tranny? From what I can read I think it is, just makes a fella question it when GM sells for less then half of what Dodge dealers want. I have also read the theory of adding the limited slip (1 bottle) to the tranny when doing an oil change to it. Has anyone in here been doing it to theirs? I think i'm going to do a fluid change on mine and not sure what to put in it. I can't get the Pennzoil or Amsoil here in Canada where I live so it's gonig …
