On my 2000 24valve i keep blowing the metal transmission line that is closest to the firewall that is coming from the torque converter cooler that is mounted to the passenger side of the block. Both times it ruptured at interstate speeds. Can anyone offer any ideas?

I took the plunge and ordered a fuel boss this morning from Glacier Diesel. I ordered and extra belt and the hobbs override switch. I'm not in need of a lift pump replacement yet, but having not upgraded my system yet, now's as good a time as ever. Also ordered new thermostat, hoses, water pump, and bosch alternator rebuild kit from geno's to stay ahead of power curve on that as well.I'll do my best to take some pics when I install the fuel boss and do a write up on the installation. Richard at Glacier Diesel, as has been numerous time reported both here and other forums, was great to deal with. He answered my emails promptly this morning and instilled confidence in my de…

Hey guys , having an issue with the oil pressure , when I start the truck Its at 40psi cold idle, when its somwhat warm its 70-80 at 2500rpm. When the truck is at full operating temp its at 20-25 psi at idle and 40-50 psi at 2500 rpm. i have checked sending unit, removed it and placed the manual guage on for these readings. I have also checked the oil press regulator on top of the oil filter mounting bracket, the spring seemed ok and the plunger moves freely in the guide. I am about to pull the oil cooler and replace the oil relief valve ( i think thats what is called) and the gaskets. I am also going to change the oil and filter. I was running lucas oil, but I think …

Not sure where to post this so please move to where appropriate. Question is can a Smarty be used to read generic codes? Ie non diesel? To be specific, 98 jeep grand Cherokee and a 05 set4? Just got a smart phone:hyper: and interested in an ob2 reader but if the Smarty will do it no need. Unless the app can double as a scan gauge.

I raided Wally world last week and bought every jug of 2 stroke they had. $12 and change/gallon.I just put new injectors in my 903, and I want the first sip of fuel to have the extra lube! So, here is my situation, This tractor has 2 saddle tanks, about 110 gallon each. They are connected at the bottom with a 2.5 inch pipe. My filler inlet is on one tank only, (same tank that pump draws from and returns to). I'll pour 2 gallons of wallys blue into the tank (it's about 3/4 full at this time)... and stir the crap out of it. I was thinking about getting a paint stirer chucked into my drill? The fuel cap is 4 …

This is for the old '99 that the parents have now. It's got a "miss" at idle............but only after the engine has gotten up to operating temp. Cold idle is normal with no miss. It's a miss, but the computer adjusts by increasing the idle speed slightly after warm up.. Running up and down the road, she runs as good as ever. Dad says she's been averaging 19mpg most every fill up. What should I look for and check to diagnose this??? Thanks guys!!

First break down, and first post here. I think its awesome that there are resources like this site to help others. This is my first diesel and I love it. I have put about 40k on it the past 2 or 2.5 years. Majority Highway miles. it has about 254,000 on it now and had 213,000 a few years ago when i bought it. I really like wrenching and fixing things, but with this being my first diesel, and something new to me i am a little hesitant and nervous to do some stuff, but only because i dont really know exactly what im looking at. Well today on my way home I was passing a semi and then bam, no power(throttle) what so ever. Turned off radio, tried to restart, nothing. Put haza…

I would like to know when your fuel gauge sending unit goes out, does it go all the way to empty? Or does it fool you into thinking you have enough fuel and you just end up running out of fuel?Anyone remember? Thanks very much.

  12. My vacuum pump seal is leaking and I am going to just dish out the money for new pumps as opposed to just replacing the seals and having to tear into it again or take it to a shop again later. So I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations on aftermarket or remanned pumps. I think the guy at my shop said Dodge charges over $900 for the little freakin pump lol, I have already seen some Cardone A1 pump for like $300 so I may go that route unless they suck. I am hoping to upgrade, if that's even possible, especially the steering pump since I know our trucks steering can be quite shotty as is. Also, I think I will do the fuel lines from the vp to the injectors, the inject…

  13. I just did mine and realized what to do but, need some input on this idea.First of all I want to point out that the bed rib frame right in the way over the tank lid is very thin gauge steel. So my thought on this is to go ahead and cut it out of the way and place new steel reinforcement that makes it removable and stronger than original. My idea is simply to add steel reinforcement that sleeves/ slides inside both ends of the cut away bed rail and bolt them together with a few bolts. It would need to be rectangular tubing that fits inside the other just like a reciever hitch does with square tubing. When you want tank top access you simply remove the two or three bolts and…

Talking with my Son this morning, He told me his 99 has began making a "poping" sound when he accelerates while turning.I thought I would try to get some preinspection info, or advice before we drop the cover off this afternoon. He changed the pinion seal and gear oil last summer with some Oreilly brand synthetic, and not being there I`m not sure if its a limited slip or not??I know GM vehicles have required what everyone called a "fish oil" additive for clutch pack diffs.I`m hoping this is the best case scenario.

  16. :banghead:I guess I am now part of the elite! Yesterday, son Rob said the tach was bouncing again... mostly at lower rpm. the faster the engine turned, it smoothed out. (I replaced the sensor last fall) and today the truck fell flat on it's face dead. 1688 is the code stored.I put on an Air dog FRRP pump last fall too, but too late? This is a bone stocker engine with 130k miles.I will add, that the last 2 months we've had to keep the battery charger on to get it started in the morning. It would restart the rest of the day fine. I know it needs new batteries too. Volt gauge after it starts always runs mid 14v. I proba…

  17. My 2001 will not start, starter wont click, lights will not even come on. Batteries have a sufficient charge but everything electronic seems to be completely dead. I dont even get the clicking when you open the door and the batteries are in need of a charge. Installed a new alternator last month and my Optimas are in great shape. I disconnected both negative terminals to see if anything would reset but it did not do anything. Started great and ran fine last night...:banghead: I know it is in need of a bath really bad and I have been driving through a heck of a mud hole getting to and from work...perhaps something came loose??? Any help is appreciated! - - - Up…

Hi guys,I've just noticed this black puff when starting the truck. I have no idea how long its been doing this. I bought the truck in November 2012 with 306000 miles knowing it would have some problems. So it could have been doing this since I bought it . My question...Is this normal, or something that I should be getting concerned about? This is the only time is blows the black smoke. Never going down the road, even when I get on it really good. I'm trying to embed a video of what the truck is doing. The smoke looks white because its coming right at the camera, but it is black.

  19. I live near Source Automotive. They offer a valve body upgrade. The question I have is...are all valve bodies created equal? Just because they are close to me doesn't mean it the best on or even a good one. But the benefit is that they'd be installing it. So no finger pointing if something doesn't work as it should. I do have a transmission guy also that did my t/c and did a minor tear down of the transmission for inspection while it was out. He gave me an old valve body that I can use as a core. So I could have him install any valve body in the planet. Any thoughts?
