Once again I found the check ball wedged back into the coils of the spring. I wanted to get a picture by the time I did get the camera the check ball fell out in it own and rolled across the shop floor before I could press the camera button. :banghead: So I got a bit more aggressive this time. I added a new twist to the spring I bent the very end of the spring into a L shape inwards so the tip holds the ball from starting into the coils. Time will tell...

  2. Hey gang, Pulled with my 2 week old (to me) 2002 today. Took my 78 ford on my tandem car trailer 50 miles to a paint shop today with mixed highway, 2 lane driving. First, I was surprised as to how much it was taxing the engine, until I pulled of a ramp and smelled brakes burning and found my drivers e-brake was hung up. After that I could not believe this motor. Pulling my 78 with ease, up grades at 65 mph light pedal would not even be a fantasy in my old 08 super duty. I got 15.5 mpg round trip today, temps in the high 20's. So, what I'm here to ask is if my power curve is normal. My truck is an auto, and is shifts great. Truck pulls out fine, and when the conv…

I'll be going cougar hunting next month in central Oregon in a mule deer winter range. Temperatures typically mid 20's during the day and single digits near zero at night. Can be warmer or colder. According to my owners manual I should have the block heater plugged in. Aside from running a generator all night and not sure my little 1000 watt honda will power the block heater anyway. Is there any precautions I should take? We are tent camping and don't have the luxuries we have when trailer camping.

So I haven't driven my my pickup in a month and a half and it was gelled up when I parked it but I put a bunch of treatment in it before I parked it and ran it for a bit and then parked it... Yesterday I put a new fuel filter in bumped the key to cycle lift pump to fill the fuel filter housing... When I did this I heard the lift pump running but no fuel was being pumped it was about 20 degrees yesterday.... The pump is only like 2 years old...has anyone had the pump run but not move fuel before or do you think it might just be gel in the lines

OK so i need some help understanding the waist gate function. On my truck in my sig i have been running a Smarty S-03 for about 2 years and I have had the waist gate both hooked up and un-hooked with a 1/8 plug in the hole on the turbo. Egt's are much lower with the waist gate disconnected. I thought lower EGT's is better? I guess my Question is what is the harm of disconnecting the waist gate?

I finally got time to change out my leaking(severely that is)tappet cover gasket. I just made a 1600 mile round trip and went thru near 5 quarts of oil. While in the past I have removed every thing form the drivers side of the engine at different time, it was the first time I ever had to remove all of them at once. Pretty much stripped everything on the drives side to gain good access to the block. The only thing I left on was the fuel lines for 3, 4, and 6. Just did not want to mess with the lines at the head. They did get in the way a little but not to bad. It was also the first time I dd the VP by myself. Of everything I dealt with, that worried me the most. It all we…

Ive done some serious searching and written down a bunch of part numbers- but what I havent read explicitly is that the bhaf does anything for general mpg. So does it? Thanks!

Gentlemen, I have done a few searches and I just want to be sure: That these Cummins engines are the coolest running motors around. I have driven this truck about 500 miles since owning it and I have learned it takes forever to warm up, and when it does, a red light will knock the gauge back down to lower normal. I think its great, and though the wife wants the heat on full blast in June, once the truck warms up to mid gauge, the heat is HOT HOT HOT! I already made some homemade winter fronts to fit in the grille with some custom cut black acrylic sheet, so I'm asking- This is normal or no? AP

    1. When does the stock programming start to de-fuel at what rpm and/or what boost level? 2. Sorta goes with question one in a sense, but if I am to wind out the gears in my truck (NV5600) to get up to speed, what is the best rpm to shift at and/or not go over when going WOT?

hey guys, i have an airdog 2 150 gph pump on my truck. yesterday when driving my fuel pressure all of a sudden hit 0 and i continued to drive home because it wasnt acting funny. when i shut it off and turned key back to run position, the pump wont kick on. ive tried everything i can think of. i traced the ground and hot wires as good as i could without a test light. i made sure they had good clean connection. (dropped my test light on the walk from the building to the truck and broke it of course) i couldnt test the relays, and dont even know where to begin and what to begin looking at because i did not hook this pump up. i dont know which relays or fuses or whate…

Is there an advantage to using synthetic axle lube when changing the fluid? Can I use one grade of fluid in both front and rear axles for simplicity. I don't believe that I have the limited slip rear axle.

Hi guys, Just picked up a Flame Red, 102K 2002 Sport, Auto, 4x4, 3:55's, Qcab, 8' bed. Truck is stock and I searched for this one to be like that on purpose. I already have done some EXTENSIVE (a year plus) reading before getting one of these trucks, and I really purchased for the MPG and pulling power for my side camper/boat repair business. It was hard to let go of the Super Duty for the sheer toughness alone but I couldn't take the 11mpg average. Anyway, I already ordered a column gauge pod and an Isspro mechanical fuel pressure gauge, a fleetguard filter to swap out the scary K&N oil filter and a new fuel filter. (I pan on adding a Edge Juice W/ Attitude…

Ok I said I would never do this, but here we go…. Reading about some of these “Tuners – Programmers” that just plug into the OBDll, and you don’t have to “tap” anything, my brain is asking me the age old question – What could possibly go wrong? (Hold my beer) LOL…. In everyone’s humble opinion what is the best way to go. Seems like you can get ones from 300 that have three programs, to a Smarty that has six, any opinions? (Silly question) I do get confused when reading about the programs, especially concerning timing. How do you figure out what is best for driving around town (yes I do like spirited driving) and for towing? I am very conservaitive when I tow and t…

My rear brakes (drum) have never really grabbed much. I recently replaced a leaking wheel cylinder and for a few brake applications they worked awesome. The rear abs actually activated. By now I'm back to the previous laziness. What can be wrong? It's a real pain having only front brakes at icey intersections.

I hate the break controller in the 2001 3500 I bought and I want to change it out. My question is does the Dodge have a plug like comes with some controllers, or do you have to hard wire it in. Next question, How do you go about taking the lower dash panels off? Thanks In advance Earl

got up to almost 30 this morning, so I thought it would start easy for me... ran the pre heat, bumped the starter to start the lift pump, then ran the pre heat again. It did fire a little, but then nothing. Rob said I didn't have any vapor during the crank. We pulled it about a half mile trying to start, and it did run momentarily. Then finally nothing. Just happened to have my reader on board, and I got a p1693 I knew that was a companion deal, and digging a little deeper on my code reader it had a timing issue in the vp. about this time I noticed my fuel lift pump no longer run…

Hey guys, its about 0 degrees here this morning, feels like -24. I went out to the truck this morning, actually started up very well. But there was a unusual humming coming from around the fuel pump under the hood and the FP on my Edge was stuck at 3psi, then 4, 5, and seemed to stick 6-7psi. Normally I have about 14-15. I cut it off because I didn't NEED to leave, and I just replaced the VP44 last spring and do not want to do it again. I am just wondering for later today and the future, is this normal? If I had left it warm up would it get normal or would I end up causing damage?

Got a 2002 cummins that's getting fuel in my engine oil. Put new injectors in and ran for 200 miles and it's doing it again. I've put dye in the fuel and let it idle but I cannot see where's it's leaking. Any thoughts?
