Hey guys, I bought a comp, and the previous user had it set up for his 01 with the 01 connectors on it. I guess this is the early version of the comp box because the new ones come with adapters for the 02 that use the 01 connectors, while the early ones did not. The 02 connectors were loose in the box. I cut the 01 connectors off and now need to attach the 02 connectors, but I'm having a problem. On top is the 01 connector, and on bottom is the 02 connector. As you can see, the 01 connector has 3 wires going to it from the lead, a green white and black (Or brown?) and the 02 connector only has 2 bare leads going to it. Anyone have any idea how the 02 conn…

Does anyone here use the cummins quick serve? If so, didn't you used to be able to view service diagrams and maintenance manuals there? I cannot seem to find the links inside the site for those anymore, and it reads that no service manuals are available for my motor. Thanks.

fmi, I was curious to what the mechanical range of the vp44's advance was? I know they are electronically adjusted, but what are the mechanical limitations? Is there anyway to monitor this advance?

  6. Hi All, I recently bought this truck. I checked for error codes to see if there was anything that required my attention. I got 4 codes... P0753 - 3-4 shift solenoid / trans relay circuit P0713 - trans temp sensor voltage too high P1763 - governor pressure sensor volts too high P1687 - no cluster bus message I am confused as to why i am getting p0753 because i have a 5 spd manual in the truck. Is this normal any insight on this and any of the other codes would be helpful. Thanks.

Alright, so I did a little brainstorming on the matter. Dunno if I'm on to something here or not? Need to pose this question and bounce it off of you guys.I hope to get my exhaust brake here soon and thinking on the issue more, considering I have an auto, it makes some sense. I have not been able to tell if my transmission does a 2nd gear lock up or not. But if not, I think I may have a good idea for a workaround.IIRC, a lock-up switch will allow you to lock the TC at ANY time, right? Well if so, would this work:- EB kicks in at 3rd or 4th but then the truck slows down enough to the point that it shifts to 2nd. EB kicks off as the trans does not have 2nd gear lockup. So my…

Just bought a 2001 2500, 307 000 miles automatic, very clean and well maintained, I installed a mech fuel psi gauge, at idle 8 1/2 psi, at 60mph about 1600 rpm its at 7psi, is this low enough to hurt the vp44 ? iv hardly driven it as I am getting little stuff fixed first, iv ordered a Airdog frrp, its a stock motor and will stay stock and used as a daily driver about 6 000 miles per year and occasional light towing will this pump be suffiecient ? I don't know the maintance history of the truck as far as the vp44 being replaced nor the carter style lift pump.

Once my truck gets warm the clutch gets real jumpy, when trying to back up slowly or starting in 2nd. Could this be a slave cyl problem or is my clutch bad? There is a small amount of oil sweating from between trans and bell housing but nothing at flywheel

  10. My injection pump just went out and am in the process of ordering a replacement. I have pulled it once to replace side cover gasket because it was leaking oil. But it's still leaking oil from there and somehow oil is reaching the fan and getting blown everywhere. I don't know if its leaking somewhere else too. So one way or another, since I will have the vp44 off, I'm going to replace the side cover gasket again. Should I use a butt load of RTV next time, or buy a different brand of gasket?

During the day, 1st time using cruise control it accelerates. Set it at any speed between 45-75 and it continually creeps up. Turn it OFF - ON - set it - multiple time and it starts working fine. Anybody seen this and have a solution? No warning lights and no codes.

  12. Ok so to start this started in the winter. When i first fire my truck up my voltage bounces from 13 to are 6 till the engine warms up then it would start charging like normal after 5 to 10 mins. No big deal i started it let it run before i go to work. Now that it is warming up. I start it and if i touch the pedal and bring in even little bit above ideal the voltage drops to around 6 and stay there. Until i let the rpms drop. Then it will bounce around then most times come back to normal. Long story short put a alternator two weeks ago and a computer on the fire wall. I have had it to the stealership twice and they always come up with something retarded that they think it …

I Bought a reman vp44 pump combo set with the lift pump and fuel filter from Thoroughbred Diesel and I am only getting 12 psi pressure at the fuel filter out of the new carter lift pump. The truck runs good till you start driving under a load the pressure drops down to 7or8psi and it throws the 1689 no communication between the ecm and injection pump. Did I just waste money buying the combo with this carter lift pump? Has anyone else dealt with Thouroughbred before?

So why is it I always have that model that is the "different" one? After putting a new DDRP on the truck in fall and still not having good FP and VP death code, I put out the $ and had new VP put on. Truck runs great...but still ____ poor FP. I was lucky to see 13 at idle and I could pull it to 3 at WOT. Talked to boys at geno's. Sent me new DDRP spring...should increase FP...installed it and it did....but Im still draining to 5 .... so the guys tell me to swap filter and run a bucket test (pull from a fuel can right off the DDRP). I have to be pulling air. I tear it down and I just dont like the idea of the DDRP install.I had put in a draw staw at the tank som…

Well, after a week of flushing radiator, changing water pump, replacing thermostat, and an unforeseen alternator replacement, I finally got around to installing my Fuel Boss yesterday morning, and finished it up this afternoon. I'm in the process of doing a write-up on it with all my notes and comments, but wanted to let you all know that it's working as advertised. Richard at GDP was always available for my various questions. I primed her up with a mityvac pump to the fuel boss, and keyed the stock pump several times to get out all the air and prime the filter. I cranked it for about 20 seconds or so and she coughed and started. She's running about 15-17 steady PSI for m…

I'm wanting to hook up my fuel pressure gauge....finally. I have a FASS installed, with the supply line going directly to the VP, so the factory fuel filter can is gone. I do have a T-fitting I could use by cutting the hose (don't really want to do that), but I had hoped I could use fittings of some sort to plumb into one of the fittings on the injection pump......is that possible? And if so, does anyone know which fittings I'd need?

Thanks to all that share their knowledge. I just did the valve lash adjustment. Only took 4 hours. Not to bad for first time. Thank you Mopar1973man for your GREAT article with pix. Now onto my next project swap out the injectors for some RV 275. Couple more paydays then back here to get the info needed to do the job. The change in the sound at idle was amazing. Seat of the pants I would say 25-30% better running, seemed to get up to speed faster, will have to be careful already spun tires. Most of the valves were loose. intakes were .012-.013, exhaust .022-.023. I guess not to far out for 217778 miles.THANKS AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!

We all know the APPS adjustments and ECM calibration. This results in the ECM 'seeing' 0-100% of throttle, uh, opening. Now my cheap code reader shows the ECM at 0-100%. Cool. The PCM shows 23-88%. Sooo, if the PCM is controlling the auto trans shifting, OD, TQ lockup, etc. What do we do with the PCM throttle %?Note that my truck shifts fine. Just curious. ___99 QCLB Sport 4x4HD, Auto. 250k, No add-ons.
