2nd Generation Dodge Non-Powertrain

Discussion of the 1994 to 2002 2nd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L Cummins Turbo Diesel non-power train. This includes interior, air conditioning, heating, lighting, body, suspension, brakes, stereos, etc.

  1. So heres my problem. I just picked up a 2001 2500 last week. I don’t know a whole lot about this truck however it is not my first diesel. Use to have a 2004 powerbroke. I have no heat in the truck at all. The motor eventually warms up to the middle marker, takes about 35-45 mins. Even then once it has warmed up I have no heat coming from my vents. If I turn the heat on I get heat for about 3 seconds, then cold air. I live in Alberta and it’s -25c right now where I am so it makes for a long cold drive to work every morning and I would like to get this issue fixed, any ideas?

  2. Was driving the other day and noticed my overhead console display going haywire. I've had it on the fuel economy display lately & was pleased to see my mileage creep up with the warmer temps (got up to 19.7 mpg). Suddenly the numbers started to increase rapidly, about 2 tenths every second, then more like 2 mpg per second. The number kept on spooling up until it hit 99.9 then it stopped there. While it was spooling up I scrolled through the different displays & saw the miles to empty reading spooling real fast too. A few moments after it hit 99.0 I did a reset while I continued driving: it came back down to 2 mpg and then started to increase again but at a much s…

Went and did my taxes a few days back and found out I'm getting some money back this year rather than paying, which is awesome news for me and the hospital... I'll be using the majority of the money to pay off the hospital bill I racked up last Thursday, all thanks to the stupid ice and snow!! :banghead::banghead::banghead:Anyway, I decided that if I'm gonna pay off the hospital I at least want to get an HID Kit for my truck. I have been looking for the blue-ish tint ones and haven't found ant good sites. I want something that stands out from the crowd, and no, I am not gonna get the cheap e-bay knock-off's. Anybody know of some good sites or at least lead me in the right…

  7. Is anyone running a heater in/on there fuel tank? i would like to find a heater that I could use but since these trucks have plastic fuel tanks this is proving to be a pain! I found this but it is only for a steel tank and the seller tells me that it will not work and they are working on one for a plastic tank but it will be 10-12 months before it will be available. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Fuel-tank-heater-Diesel-Bio-fuel-heater-120v-500-watt-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem2a0d254ec8QQitemZ180609175240QQptZOtherQ5fVehicleQ5fParts

I just picked up a 95 12v as a tow rig for my pull truck. I pulled out the controler from my 2001 and thats a plug and play. I looked under the dash of the 95 and I dont see any similar looking wires.. Help pleasePosted from my mobile phone while not driving....

  9. I have one of the 50 gallon aux fuel tank/toolbox units in the truck. Got it used off of Craigslist and really like it.Now one thing is that I still have not gotten around to hooking the electrics up on the critter. Does anyone know if there is any way to bypass all the electronics that come with it and just put power to the pump and pump the fuel into the main tank? We hooked up the fuel tank lines when installing it but frankly had spent enough time under the truck already when doing the Raptor lift pump and did not get into the wiring from the fuel level sending gauge on the main tank that the TF computer needs to work. Everything else appears to be pretty straight for…

  13. Well all, still fussing with my heating/AC system. I swear that if it was not for the Cummins engine I would sell this truck immediately due to the "time after time after time" hassles we have been having with the climate control.Back in June or so I took it to a good shop here in town and they pulled the dash and installed a new diverter door coupling. Seems that the coupling had broken and the motor could not move the door. It worked for a few days then stopped but luckily for me it stuck in the cold position so the A/C worked fine and in Arizona in the summer thats important. Finally this fall I took the truck back to have them fix it right.Well kids, the truck has bee…

I came home from work the other day to my truck in the driveway with the backup lights on.I unplugged my trailer - no short there, they stayed on. I played with my override switch and my shifter, they didn't turn off.I pull the backup light fuse and they stayed on.It seems that the hot side must be shorted to voltage somewhere after the switch on the trans. Anyone have any ideas on common bad splices or pinch points? I've got no guesses on likely areas myself, thought I'd throw it out there and see if this was any sort of "common problem" that I'd just never stumbled across.

Currently have about 5 accessories tapped into fuses on side panel drivers side. Worried about overloading circuit and becoming a bit messy Assuming I can clean this up using a fuse panel like this for accessories ? But how best to RIG up to ensure on own circuit and not overloading another circuit (eg power ) http://www.amazon.com/Bussmann-BP-15600-06-20-Quick-Connect/dp/B001BXKLNQ/ref=pd_ts_auto_13?ie=UTF8&s=automotive http://www.wiringproducts.com/contents/en-us/d136.html Any better ones that handle more AMPS and how do you supply power/ground to man circuit - direct from battery using a higher gauge wire ? thx

Howdy, new member, 1st post. I've got an '01 2500 4x4 LBQC, HO. Pretty much stock, except for: Smarty, BHAF, 255/85R16 BFG Mud Terrains, Galaxy CB, KC Highlites. Working on a dually rear axle conversion with a flatbed..... anyway, I've got the stock radio with the infinity speaker system with stering wheel controls. About a year ago, the right side button fell out and a few weeks ago, the left side fell out driving down the highway. My question is: can I replace the buttons or do I have to replace the complete wheel. I've been surching the net, with no avail. Any help would be appreciated.:banghead:

  19. My 2001 has the fancy chrome wheels and unfortunately every one has a case of the corrosion cancer that I guess is separating the chrome or clearcoat from the wheel metal. It looks horrible and is flaking off pretty badly. I can deal with this issue on the body paint, but not the wheels too! :lol:I have never liked these wheels anyway - have always preferred a more utilitarian look like the old white steelies on older trucks. My question is this - does anyone run 4 steel "spare" wheels on a 2nd gen? Is there anything different about them in terms of load or anything? My factory steel spare came with a Michelin LTX MS 265/75/16E mounted on it so I would guess the answer is…
