Posted July 31, 20159 yr I just don't do enough easy driving to see it. This is my first tank without any towing since Feb and most of those towing miles are a 30' barn door.. I mean travel trailer. So I have to enjoy it while it lasts.
August 1, 20159 yr Very nice. I've been driving the 68 ford for a week. Been pulling down a solid 8mpg.

August 1, 20159 yr Owner I've been enjoying the 20-24 MPG back and forth to work. Just depends on if that day I decide to hype-mile and drag my butt to work or do I just set the cruise for 65 MPH and haul tail to work. Still with $2.839 price for diesel and $3.129 for gas... Yeah I'm enjoying it.
August 1, 20159 yr Author Do you top off into the filler neck? On my truck that would be about 30 mpgs.
August 1, 20159 yr Owner After today's firewood haul I made a solid 12 MPG. At least I'm getting work done and hauling materials.

August 2, 20159 yr Owner With that cute little trailer? That is a bit lower than I would have guessed. I really hate to scale my trailer right now. I rather heavy. Not to mention I didn't shut down the engine much through the day and kept the A/C running between stops. But during unloading I did shut down the truck. I'm pretty sure I'm close to the weight of my RV weight.
August 2, 20159 yr Author I do. That explains some of the miles per tank you get. I only do once or twice a year for hunting or long backroad trips. I account for the fuel between the click and neck full on the next tank. My truck quite often gets fueled and parked for a week or more and a tank full to the neck has nowhere to expand.
August 2, 20159 yr I have a tiny bit of seepage on the top of the tank... I don't fill up into the neck unless I'm on a trip... 8mpg is pretty piss poor. My 79 C30, 454, towing cam, Edlebrock intake, AFB, headers, huge truck mufflers, 3.73 axle, 16.5 tires... got 11 mpg. I thought 11 was bad. Twin fireball 20g saddle tanks... LOL! Towing or empty, did not matter. The AC mattered (when it had AC).. subtract 1 mpg. Edited August 2, 20159 yr by flagmanruss

August 2, 20159 yr i don't top off that far. only let it click off 3 times. always get fuel from sams club unless traveling. this trip i went from Flagpole az, to payson, to Phoenix, then back home i'm happy with the results. i dropped to 65 mph, and tried to keep boost under 10. edge set 4.
August 10, 20159 yr My current tank of fuel................................just touching the top of the 1/4 tank mark.
August 10, 20159 yr Author I am still on the same tank of diesel and will drive the truck again tomorrow. I'll peek and see where I am at. IIRC the 2500 QCSB has a 34 gal tank vs the QCLB 35 gal tank? With you topping off I would guess you have a gallon or two more than I do with the bigger tank and only filling to the click.

When I first got my '04.5, it would take 27-28 gallons of diesel to "fill her up". After the "fuel tank vent mod"; when I fill up now, MightyWhitey takes 30-32 gallons. I think I have the "little" tank.
August 12, 20159 yr Author Amazing how the last half is shorter than the first half. I know EFI Live allows people to adjust it.
August 14, 20159 yr My current tank of fuel................................just touching the top of the 1/4 tank mark. IMG_0513.jpg This tanks averaged in at 20.6mpg hand calculated. Wound up with 630 miles driven and stuffed the tank with 30.5 gallons of fuel. What I do when hand calculating mileage is to just take the WHOLE number of miles and eliminate the decimal. For instance, on this tank of fuel, I actually drove 630.7 miles. Then for the fuel; I round up the decimal. On this tank I filled up with 30.47 gallons.................rounded up to 30.5. This way; I'm actually getting slightly less fuel mileage than actual. 630 divided by 30.5 equals 20.6xx.
