20170803_221641.jpgI hate to admit it... I spent 700 on a set of Morimoto D2S HIDs. All I can say is these are top notch headlights compared to the sport headlights I just replaced. Now I didnt have to do all the heating and removal of the lens. I found a site called http://shop.retroshop.us that sells complete HID solutions fully assembled. All you got to is install and wire it up. They are even aimed and pretested before shipping.

Here is exactly what I selected.    Give them a call they are very helpful in explaining the options.

  • Lets stir the pot a bit more. I just put some new clear housings on and stuck a set led's in them.   Only the back rounded portion of the housing has a reflector. The marker has no reflector

I'll most likely stick with white lights.  I know these will fit where the normal factory fog light typically is installed. I've been out measuring and seeing what I can make fit.

I am curious. Why the 5k vs. the 4300k?

I asked what would be the best for highway driving the tech suggested the 5k bulbs. I was looking for white light.

Wow goes all the way up to 30k, that wouldn't just blind a deer it will make deer jerky.

Actually, from what I read on the Internet the 5k is the brightest light you can get for the most part. As you go up from there the amount of light is reduced as it changes to blue and violet colors. As you go down past 3k the light turns more yellow and the light is reduced again. So the 4k to 5k realm is about the brightest you can get. The 4k is more to the yellowish side where the 5k is more to the bluish side.

The 4k bulbs in my experience tend to look like the original halogen bulb light. Just more of it.

4300k is supposed to be hte most visible light possible, but anywhere in that 4-5k range works good.

Hey I just want to hear update on how the lights are holding up? Also what are peoples thoughts on a set of sport housings with the d2s and a set of led pod? like rigid or baja led 4x4 pods? I found a place out of Boise that would retrofit a set of led pods and d2s in a set of sports housing for me.

So far I'm very impressed and happy with my D2S Morimoto HID's still got the 5k bulbs going and no issues with bulbs so far. I would skip the LED idea. It's a very non-focused bulb with lots of scattering of the beam. Like I'm planning on retro fitting a set of PIAA LED driving lights in to replace my old school aircraft landing lights. The Morimoto D2S bulbs drown out the 100w seal beam halogen blubs.

Mike what did you do to seal your other socket from in the factory harness?

Nothing... I might stuff some dielectric grease in the socket.

Pods have absolutely no business being used in head lights.

I really do hate any vehicle coming at me with LED lighting. No focus of the beam it straight out blinding.

i turn my high beams on as well as my light bar.

Like I'm learning about LED lighting that most of the light bars can't be aimed again very blinding. Like I posted above the the PIAA RF series LED light that CAN be aimed and focused. I CAN use these even in my LOW BEAM.

PIAA LED RFT Technology

The advantages are clear:

  • More controlled beam patterns directing the light exactly where you need it.
  • Lower power consumption than traditional forward facing LED lightbars.
  • Bright 6000k White light that replicates daylight to illuminate the road and the trail.
  • SAE Compliance for Street Legality.
  • Compact and durable, with the cast aluminum housings and polycarbonate lenses.

i guess i hate when people put HID/LED in factory housing with no projectors.

The more I look at the Piaa lights I am leaning that way.

I really could have used those PIAA lights tonight. Came home in a snowstorm and had to keep my low beam on. So between looking at the snow coming at you and limited field of light still my Morimotos were brighter than my old 100w aircraft light but still not a good field of light. I'm going to be making some phone calls in the morning to PIAA.

I glad that you brought up the snow, I was going to ask what you thought of your projectors in snowy conditions?

Holy Crap dude don't turn on your high beams. You'll be able to see every damn snowflake falling to the ground. You'll never see the highway any longer because of being blinded by brightly lit up snowflakes.  :duh:

Interesting. So with the shutter no longer blocking the bowl it reflects light off of all the flakes. We haven't gotten snow yet so interested to see how mine act being the h1s.

snowflakes are little mirrors, the more light you throw at them the move reflect back.
