On a automatic the Back up light switch plug has three wires, violet/blk, brn/grn, and a black/? wire.

Connect the violet/blk to the brn/grn and the back up lights go on..... What does the blk/? go to?

Edit, Never mind,,,,, I found it in my service manual, the third wire is the ground for the starter solenoid circuit

You are correct I'm not seeing the 3rd wire either. Glad you confirmed it is a ground, being a black wire that would be my guess. Those wire looms are real fun to attempt to sort through on the truck :ahhh:

Lol, looks good on paper though

Lol, yes it sure does. Prep yourself ahead of time for a little bit of wiring by reading the schematic, your ready, and then when the rubber hits the road the wires have already been spliced into by a previous owner. And since we are talking 17 years ago that's highly likely!

GSP7,

Hope it is not too late...  I posted in the other one, your question on where to pick it up.  It should be in your 7 pin trailer connector plug already.  You could go right before the connector and splice into the violet/black right there.

Just got my overhead console backup switch rehooked up today and be nice to have those again on the switch. Next time there is a vehicle following with high beam on I can give him some 100w flood lights back. :whistle2:

Ummm... That why I've got $1,000 dollars worth of lighting between Morimoto HID's and the PIAA LEDs in the front of the truck now... I can see well ahead of myself now. I'm not worried about dead animals in the road...

i might get flamed for this. but... well here goes.

I think the added and brighter lights ruins ones night vision. people put HID and LED in the 5000-6000K color range and in non projector housings.

we humans have decent night vision. but when you add brighter lights it degrades your ability to see the side of the road. To a point that if your light are not lighting it up you can't see it. where the older yellower lights let your eyes adjust to the night, and you can see the edge of the road better. i think most newer cars/truck dash lights are getting way to bright as well.

my RX8 had awesome HID's at 6K color, but i could never see animals on the side of the road, where my old 93toyota has pos 25 year old lights and you can see the road well, and animals on the sides of the road as well. sure you can over drive the light cause they don't shine 20 miles down the road, but for a reasonable speed, the dimer lights are WAY better than lots of bright lights.

IMO

Off road however, it's a totally different game. Racing Baja we wanted the widest and brightest light we could power.

I like your take on it. and would agree

We used to drive out in the desert with our headlights off

There is a point I do agree but there is another trick too. Like most of my travels I can leave my low beam on for most of my highway use. The HID are cut low and light the sides of the highway quite well but my eye adjust to the darker upper half where I'm focusing my attention at the breaking line of the HIDs. The driving LED lights give my the focused light in my lane alone so I can see road debris or potholes before I strike them.

My old sport headlight was way too narrow and the road edge was really dark and had many close calls with deer jumping out of the ditch and little warning because they are outside the beam path till they hit the pavement. Even with four 100w spotlights, 2 on hi and 2 on lo beam and then 2 bulbs in each sport headlight the road edges were too dark.

The bonus I love is the HID's are just a mere 35w a piece. 41% power saving on the alternator. Now just ditching the four 100w lights and going to LED 18w which is a 82% savings in lighting loads.

Why Dodge them just Ram them. :burnout:

You have to get a nice bumper first

@Killer223 I agree with your statement but like Mike said these morimoto's being 35 Watts still allow you to see beyond cut off edge and what they do lite is just amazing. I personally went with 35 watts vs50, and a 4500k bulbs. Love the light they put out.
