I have to wonder if getting a newer 4th gen CTD, because of all it's advancements, would you be setting yourself up to have to trade in the truck sooner than a less advanced truck!?

Anyway it seems that trouble shooting problems become more difficult on a more complex/ advanced rig.

I agree.

If you are buying new, you have warranty to weed out problems. Then if you get extended warranty you would have that for a while depending on how many miles you put on.

Now once it's paid off do you roll the dice and keep it or trade in and start the payment cycle again.

I had it happen and saw the writing on the wall when I knew my rig was a most sellable desired rig for a used truck lot. Ended up fixing it myself.

I know I can afford something when I can write a check.  I know I want it when I will write a check.  I always pay at once and never advance payment or loan money.  A contractor for example is too broke to be reliable if he is in business and doesn't have enough money to cover until he finishes and get paid.  Loaning money especially to friends or family is a great way to ruin a friendship.
