I  stopped by a Transmission shop a Custom TC shop recommended, and talked to Walter the owner

This guy knows his stuff. He also uses Goerend Trans parts and TCs. He was working on a 48re and was showing me several tricks he does like machineing planet gear housings for needle bearings in stead of thrush washers etc.  Showed me the TCS input shafts he uses etc

I was helping a guy I knows son that has a Tranny shop, but he actually sucks compared to Walters work. Walters has a clean organized shop. Guys shop I was helping is a Mess. If a guy's shop is a mess, Tool left out everywhere, disorganised and laying all over the place and trash everywhere it reflex that his personal life must be a mess too.  Needless to say I stopped working for him :thumbup2:

Anyway,. Its pretty cool to find a nice professional quality shop to compare too,

I got a great transmission guy less than a mile from me.  He rebuilt my old half ton & a friend's

48re.  He really knows his stuff and very reasonable.  Gives you a little piece of mind knowing that.  I hope he does good by you when the time comes.

I know the next time another one goes out its going to be shipped to him, unless I can find a wrecked truck with a 5 or 6 speed manual to convert my personal one over to.

I am glad you found some one you can trust in our state. I have bought a total of 12 transmission for 5 3500's since 03-2018 from different shops from Suncoast to local friends shops. They all never held up on average more than 2-3 years, rough guessing, and my company only hauls 16' average trailers with aluminum products on it.

Sounds to me like you got some employees that like to hot rod, even a factory transmission should last way longer.

No not really. I had one like that, but got fired. Trust me when I say the other ones riding will rat out the driver quickly to earn brownie points. Those are transmissions that are built supposedly and should of lasted on average more than 1-2 years. Not all had any power boxes of any kind either. My personal truck also never lasted more than 3 1/2 years and they were built by reputable shops here. Like I say it’s hard to find someone that won’t screw you on a transmission here. I only found one in the history of owning all Dodges. He actually did a great job and that truck is still going strong. He just retired unfortunately.

My next one will go to Jon.
